After being with them for years, I tried to go the prepaid route awhile back with T-Mobile, and they screwed it up, but I didn't get charged, and was offered a hidden plan that is really inexpensive, instead. The key seemed to be for me to curse a couple of times, and then settle down and listen

The Lumia was of course a joke. Too bad US Cellular doesn't GSM. CDMA is rather dated. Verizon has CDMA too. It's a scam to make you buy the phone from them. If you had a GSM service it's a SIM card you can just put in any new GSM phone and you can get the phone anywhere which saves money.
