That's what show drumming is supposed to be. He *is* a bit over the top
but this seems to be more a comedy act anyway. Booking agents and club
owners were never satisfied with musicians just sitting on stage and
playing a tune so they would often demand more show. For all we know
this guy
There are two kinds of drummers. The captain of the rhythm section
kind who are like metronomes and compers who go with the flow of time
from the other musicians. Some musician's time is so lousy they rely on
the drummer to keep it. If they hire a comper they will be all over
him all night

Looks like White didn't come on the scene until after the Beatles had broken

Called (to say the least) show drumming and reminds me of the Mickey
Sheen school of show drumming that one of my teachers who studied with
him taught.
I used to do that kind of stuff on a TV show and would freak the floor
manager out because she was afraid I would go out of camera range. ;-)
