The purpose of the Electoral College vote was to keep a few larger states from
dominating the rest of them. The founding fathers didn't trust a pure democracy.
They knew that the people could be persuaded to accept *goodies* for their

[FairfieldLife] Hillary Destroyed her own campaign

2016-11-10 Thread jr_...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife]
It was a strategic fiasco. she thought the past Democrats who supported Obama
would do the same for her. As such, she did not visit during the campaign
states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and Ohio. If she spent the extra
time, she would have been president today. She thought that Trump had
self-destructed with the P-word among the women voters. But Trump's brazen
confidence and bravado, despite his missteps, was enough to convince Americans
to vote for him. Suffice is it to say "it was sales job." Isn't that the
reason he's a so-called "billionaire"?

cakewalk for Hillary. This one sure was.
Any attacks Donnie attempted melted away quickly under his relentless laziness
and narcissism - tired slogans and falsehoods from a hundred campaign stops,
never reality tested, and transparently empty and deceptive. Trump even got
caught in some big lies, and couldn't muster anything except weak denials. His
response to his being the only major candidate in 40 years not to release his
tax returns gave Clinton a field day, and more incoherent denials from
Spray-Tan. That was the main impression, that Trump was outgunned, outfoxed,
and outplayed. He will probably be tweeting up a storm over it all, reinforcing
tonight's impression that this man is in no way qualified to lead the nation.
Trump got stumped - twice more, and he gets dumped. :-)

[FairfieldLife] Hillary Clinton's Primary Victory

2016-06-08 Thread jr_...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife]
Bhairitu,

I've reserved in supporting Hillary because she is now running the major
period of a debilitated Sun in her jyotish chart. But if Nadi astrology rules
are used, her chart looks better in that the sublord of the Sun is an exalted
Rahu in Taurus. To make a long story short, the exalted Rahu is placed in the
7th house of people and politics and is aspecting the eleventh house of
victory. That's why she's doing very well so far.

If Trump gets nominated by the Republicans, Hillary Clinton is clearly in a
better position to win the presidency.

 (Your statement from another thread).

There are a lot of actors who can sound "presidential". Would you vote for
them too? Do be superficial. Hillary is not to be trusted and she'll say
anything to rule to world.

US horoscopes are tenuous because the US is actually an amalgamation of
states of which the combined effect determines it's karma.

Wage gap: One Hillary Clinton speech more than average annual CEO salary

 By Paul Bedard http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/author/paul-bedard
(@SecretsBedard) • 2/21/16 11:51 AM

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton's charge that
corporate CEOs earn 300 times more than their workers isn't just wrong. It
hides another very real wage gap: She earns more in just one speech than the
average American CEO in a year.

 Mark J. Perry, https://www.aei.org/scholar/mark-j-perry/ a University of
Michigan professor and author of the American Enterprise Institute's popular
Carpe Diem blog, did the fact-checking of Clinton's numbers and came up with
that result.

The average CEO, using Bureau of Labor Statistics figures, makes $216,100.
Clinton's speaking agent, the Harry Walker Agency Inc., charged about $275,000
a speech and packaged three for Wall Street's Goldman Sachs at $675,000.

Perry used the BLS average salary for all CEOs, not just the top ones Clinton
likes to cite.

And about that 300-1 wage gap Clinton even touted in an ad? Perry found that
the average worker salary is $48,920, about what it was in 2009. That
translates into an apples-to-apples wage gap of 4.4-to-1.

 According to Perry:
"If we want an accurate 'apples-to-apples' comparison, then shouldn't we
really compare the average CEO in the US to the average American worker? In
2014, there were 21,550 Chief Executives working full-time "managing a company
or enterprise" and those CEOs earned an average annual salary of $216,100
according to the BLS. That's about the same annual salary of $201,030 for the
average orthodontist.

"The average private full-time American worker earned $48,920 in 2014 (based
on an average hourly wage of $24.46). That would give us an 'Average
CEO-to-Average-Worker Pay' ratio of only 4.4-to-1 in 2014. That ratio has been
stable over the last 8 years at an average of 4.4-to-1 between 2007 and 2014."

The hotter this rumor gets, the chief of the FBI will be forced to make a
statement about Hillary's innocence or actually perform an investigation to
satisfy the public.

I lived next to an FBI agent for a few of years. He made a fairly good wage of
about $140,000 for his salary (inflation adjusted). The higher up you go the
more it is all about the politics and the 401K's.

MD,

The Republican operatives are stoking the fire on this rumor to make the FBI
investigate Hillary. I don't believe Obama is dumb enough to get involved in
this affair, especially when the general public already know about it. The
chief of the FBI is in the hot seat to make the decision, and it's not going to
look good if he resigns.

The real question, at this point, is ... considering those cushy FBI guys, who
among them will resign?

If Barack Hussein Osama's justice department lets her float, who has the stones
to go to the press and call out the President?

I lived next to an FBI agent for a few of years. He made a fairly good wage of
about $140,000 for his salary (inflation adjusted). The higher up you go the
more it is all about the politics and the 401K's.

It's actually similar to Obama's strategy which excludes American ground troops

infiltrate to the American homeland. Ideally, the Muslims in the Middle East
should fight a common foe in ISIS and form a combined military force to
eliminate the terrorists from their homeland. What do you think?

You sound really scared. Nobody voted for big government except big

federal government to keep the commons between states functional. Would
you like to drive to California having to change your car in each state

that state had different statndards, etc, etc, etc? We had a civil war

I noticed during Obama's Pep Talk that cameras were often returning to
shots of Al Franken. Let's see if he runs. He could probably even
win. Hillary is a bit over the hill and the need is to keep younger

[FairfieldLife] Hillary: the Magneto of finger-pointing

2013-01-25 Thread raunchydog
On his show Thursday night, The Daily Show host Jon Stewart lampooned the
political theater of the recent hearing on Benghazi.

He noted that Republicans at the hearing asked Secretary of State Hillary
Clinton the same question repeatedly. Whether Clinton read a particular
diplomatic cable from deceased Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens was asked by
at least five Republicans.

That's a fair point — that you don't have to all identically make, Stewart
remarked. But you know, you aren't dealing with a rookie here, guys. This
ain't Clinton's first go-around at the finger-pointing rodeo. I mean, Clinton
is like a finger-pointing Magneto. You come at her and she will turn it around
on you.

When criticized for not firing anyone over the leadership failure that led to
the deaths of four Americans in Libya, Clinton noted a federal statute
prohibited State Department officials from being fired for unsatisfactory
leadership — a federal statute she proposed overturning, but that still
existed due to congressional inaction. When criticized for not revamping
security protocols, Clinton noted she had previously asked Congress for
authority to reallocate funds, *but lacked that authority due to the
Republican-led House.*

You won't see this reported in the mainstream media, but Hillary Clinton
likely took an astounding 10% of the vote in New Hampshire's 2012 Democratic
Primary last night. Here are the election results from AP (via CSPAN). We know
the Write In candidate was Hillary Clinton because there was a concerted
effort to write her in, and because New Hampshire has never produced a write in
candidate with a double digit percentage for either party's primary with the
exception of LBJ in '68. This suggests New Hampshire Democrats, and Hillary
Clinton supporters specifically a) aren't over 2008, and b) wanted to send a
powerful message to President Obama

as an 'inspiration.' Clinton seems amused by the comparison and then ponders
it for a moment. Well, I don't really understand it myself, she says,
finally. But it may in part be because people feel like they know me; they
have watched me on the world scene for seventeen years now. They've seen my ups
and my downs. She lets out a dark little chuckle. They've seen my best and my
worst. They've seen my public and my private—they've seen everything.

So many women feel like I'm on their side, she says. I somehow, through my
life or their perception of me, give them courage to do things. And I think
it's also that, whether I am meant to or not, I challenge assumptions about
women. I do make some people uncomfortable, which I'm well aware of, but that's
just part of coming to grips with what I believe is still one of the most
important pieces of unfinished business in human history—empowering women to be
able to stand up for themselves.

I try to live my life in a way that I think has meaning, she continues. I
was raised to believe that I have to give back, that I was incredibly blessed
to be an American, to have a good education, to have an intact family with two
parents who encouraged me. I never felt in my family that I couldn't do
anything I set my mind to because I was a girl, which was unusual even when I
was growing up. I have a great partner who has been enormously supportive to
me. I have a wonderful daughter. I have a 90-year-old mother who lives with us.
I have so many blessings. And yet I know how hard it is even for people in
today's world who have all of the attributes of education and income. Life is
challenging for everybody. She takes a deep breath, leans back, and looks at
me with those bright-blue eyes. That's the best I can come up with!

[FairfieldLife] Hillary Clinton and State Dept. sued for age discrimination

2009-09-19 Thread TurquoiseB
What's fascinating about this suit is that if the
State Dept. were being consistent in its policies,
Hillary might not have been eligible to be Secy
of State, because she'll reach retirement age in
2012 herself. I'd say that this may be a landmark
age discrimination suit because of this; that PR
spin on things means that the State Dept.
simply can't win. And IMO that's a good thing.
I don't think that mandatory retirement age
is a good idea.
Hillary Clinton Sued Over Age Discrimination
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/09/19/hillary-clinton-sued-over_n_29\
2141.html
WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and the State
Department are being sued by a diplomat who claims she was discriminated
against because of her age.
Lawyers for Elizabeth Colton filed suit on Friday in U.S. District Court
for the District of Columbia alleging that Clinton and the State
Department violated her rights by enforcing a mandatory retirement age
and denying her a job at the U.S. Embassy in Algeria.

Colton, 64, alleges in court documents that she was the top choice for
the two-year post as political-economic counselor in Algiers and
accepted the offer, which was later rescinded when officials realized
she would reach the retirement age of 65 for foreign service officers
after only 16 months on the job.

The suit also alleges that Colton was forced to take a less desirable
position to finish out her career and that the decision to deny her the
post in Algeria denied her constitutional right to equal protection
under the law.

Imagine if someone told Hillary Clinton she couldn't be secretary of
state because she would turn 65 before her term is up, said Thomas
Bundy III, one of Colton's attorneys. We believe the State Department
should stop this unlawful, discriminatory employment practice.

The suit notes that some long-serving foreign service officers can and
do get five-year waivers on the retirement age and that several current
U.S. diplomats, including high-profile special envoys Richard Holbrooke
and George Mitchell, are over 65.

The State Department declined to comment on the lawsuit Friday.

During the dot com boom during the late 1990s there was a lot of ageism

many of them failed. They wanted to re-invent management and of course
they were clueless. But in some of the non dot com startups I knew of
which were started by young folks who had success at another company and
had started out on their own their VC's told them to get some adult

[FairfieldLife] Hillary Fights a Tide of Trivialization

2009-08-13 Thread raunchydog
This was supposed to be the trip that would show exactly how Hillary Rodham
Clinton would make good on her pledge, at her confirmation hearing for
secretary of state, to make women's issues central to U.S. foreign policy,
not adjunct or auxiliary or in any way lesser.
There could have been no more dramatic setting: Overruling the security fears
of her aides, she traveled to eastern Congo, where hundreds of thousands of
women have been raped over the past decade. She visited a refugee camp and met
with one woman who was gang-raped while eight months pregnant; she heard of
another who'd been sexually assaulted with a rifle. She was told of babies cut
from their mothers' bodies with razors. She spoke of evil in its basest form.
She promised $17 million to fight sexual violence.

And back home, all anyone could talk about was Bill.

Had he upstaged her with his trip to North Korea? Had he dogged her, in
absentia, all the way to Kinshasa, where a university student, wondering about
Mr. Clinton's views, set her off, and set the world cluck-clucking, once
again, about her marriage, her temperament, even her hair?

As she circles the globe in coming years, making the case for women's
empowerment, starting with their basic right to be taken seriously, Clinton
really has her work cut out for her. And it isn't just because the situation of
women around the world is so dire, and the ocean of problems confronting them —
maternal mortality, sex trafficking, domestic abuse, malnourishment, lack of
education, lack of adequate medical care, just for starters — is so wide and so
deep. And it isn't just that her historic mandate — to equally empower the
other half of the world's population, to chip away at the forces devaluing
women, in the words of Melanne Verveer, the State Department's new ambassador
at large for global women's issues — is so huge and vague and seemingly
overwhelming. It's also because the tide of trivialization that washes over all
things Hillary is just so powerful. That tide threatens to drown out anything
of substance Clinton might attempt for a population whose problems have long
been obscured in the androcentric world of diplomacy. And that's a huge pity.

This could be a moment for America to redeem itself as far as the world's women
are concerned. Our recent track record, after all, is pretty dim. The Bush
administration sent anti-feminists to Iraq to train that country's women in
participatory democracy. We pulled our financing from the United Nations
Population Fund and imposed a global gag rule barring women's health
organizations that merely talked about abortion from receiving U.S. funds. We
never ratified the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination
Against Women, a pretty base-level human rights treaty, because of worries by
black helicopter types that American sovereignty would be compromised. Our lack
of paid maternity leave made us something of a world joke.

But now things just might change, and not just within the state department. In
the Senate, Barbara Boxer is leading a subcommittee charged with global women's
issues; a bill to combat child marriage is moving through Congress.

And yet, a peculiarly gendered form of trivializing scorn still tags our
secretary of state. Just two weeks ago, The Washington Post had to remove from
its Web site an ostensibly humorous video sketch by two of its prominent
political journalists that juxtaposed a picture of Clinton's face with a bottle
of derogatorily named beer. This sort of thing bodes badly for the country's
ability to treat her — and the issues she most passionately champions — with
appropriate respect.

We have our own work to do at home, Verveer told me. We trivialize the
importance too often of these issues: the `women's issue' — you put it in
quotes, that little category over there, the box you check. What we have to do
is realize these are the issues; if we want societies to prosper and if we want
our own security, we have to raise the status of women.

Women's issues are being framed by this administration in terms of realpolitik:
U.S. security depends on women's empowerment. Global economic growth depends on
women's participation.

Women's empowerment won't be delivered at the end of a gun or through economic
sanctions or even overt criticism, if it cuts into accepted cultural practices.
This is messy stuff; some of our most sensitive allies have horrific records on
women's rights. Programs that show success tend to be slow-moving and
incremental. Can all this complexity attract — much less sustain — the
attention of the public?

Maybe — if we stop viewing everything Clinton does as entertainment.

[FairfieldLife] 'Hillary: Nuclear Defence Umbrella for Israel'

2009-07-25 Thread Robert

AP – Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton talks with reporters during
her news conference with Iraqi …

Clinton's talks of a  'nuclear defense umbrella'
By MATTHEW LEE, Associated Press Writer Matthew Lee, Associated Press Writer –
27 mins ago

WASHINGTON – Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton set off tremors in the
Middle East this week when she said a nuclear Iran could be contained by a U.S.
defense umbrella — an offhand remark that appears to have emerged from
obscure Washington policy debates and her own presidential campaign rhetoric.
Clinton's comments raised eyebrows because they seemed to go beyond the Obama
administration's current thinking on Iran, which has been strictly focused on
preventing the country from acquiring nuclear weapons.
Since making the remark on a television chat show in Thailand, Clinton has
backpedaled, saying she was only restating existing policy and not referring to
any sort of formal guarantees of protection under an American nuclear
umbrella.
And when Israeli officials raised alarms that she seemed to suggest the U.S.
was resigned to a nuclear-armed Iran, Clinton and senior State Department
officials hastily insisted such a prospect was still unacceptable and that no
policy had changed.
But her comments sounded uncannily like the harder-edged nuclear umbrella
approach toward Iran that Clinton and several other top advisers to President
Barack Obama had pushed before they joined his administration.
Bringing both Arab allies and Israel under a protective U.S. nuclear umbrella
is an idea that has been batted around Washington since fears of Iran's
ambitions first percolated in the late 1990s.
Clinton herself raised the notion of such a policy during her unsuccessful
presidential campaign last year.
We should be looking to create an umbrella of deterrence that goes much
further than just Israel, she said in an April 2008 debate with Obama. Of
course, I would make it clear to the Iranians that an attack on Israel would
incur massive retaliation from the United States. But I would do the same with
other countries in the region.
During that debate, Obama affirmed support for Israel's security but did not
suggest protecting Arab states.
Some policy experts say Clinton's umbrella reference was simple carelessness.
Others wonder if it is indicative of an administration that has yet to show
discipline in foreign policy thought and action.
This is something that a secretary of state, in an academic or off-the-record
setting, might muse about, said Aaron David Miller, a former Mideast peace
negotiator now with the Woodrow Wilson Center International Center for Scholars.
But saying it on the road and on-the-record is something else, he said. It
reflects to a certain degree a problem. It reflects a certain confusion in the
administration's approach and the absence still of a coherent and cohesive
strategy.
During her trip last week, Clinton mentioned a defense umbrella during an
interview on Thai television Wednesday.
We want Iran to calculate, she said, what I think is a fair assessment: that
if the United States extends a defense umbrella over the region, if we do even
more to develop the military capacity of those (allies) in the Gulf, it is
unlikely that Iran will be any stronger or safer because they won't be able to
intimidate and dominate as they apparently believe they can once they have a
nuclear weapon, she said.
A day later, she insisted to another interviewer that the defense umbrella
was nothing specific.
It is a sort of general term that is used to describe our commitment to making
sure that Iran doesn't get a nuclear weapon, she said.
The White House declined to comment on what options may now be under
consideration for dealing with Iran. But it refused to rule out any measure.
As the president has said many times, we are using all elements of American
power, including diplomacy, to ensure Iran does not develop nuclear weapons,
said spokesman Tommy Vietor.
Despite Clinton's insistence that her phrasing was general, the concept of an
American nuclear umbrella protecting Mideast nations from Iran has wafted
through Washington think tanks for several years.
The concept is based on the Cold War era of deterrence and aims to stop a
nuclear-armed country from threatening an unarmed neighbor.
Dennis Ross, who worked for Clinton at the State Department and now heads
Mideast policy at the National Security Council, and Robert Einhorn, now a
special adviser for nonproliferation and arms control at State — both lent
their names to consideration of the concept.
Both advisers were formerly affiliated with the Washington Institute on Near
East Policy, which in March of this year published a report that recommended
studying the idea closely. The study noted that Ross and Einhorn, who had
already resigned to work with Obama, had endorsed drafts of the report.
The report noted there were some pitfalls with the

In her first extensive interview since landing in India, Hillary Clinton has
questioned the logic of not having an immediate trial against the perpetrators
of 26/11. Speaking to Times Now, Clinton said she was concerned there is no
trial and no justice so far.

In what was an obvious reference to Pakistan, she went on to say that she was
now looking for a commitment from the countries and one that is carried
forward. And mincing no words as she demanded justice for 26/11 victims, she
said, There must be a reckoning of justice for those who have lost their lives.

The full import of the comments of the US secretary of state will not be lost
on the Pakistani government, which has so far been expressing inability to
nudge the judicial process against the 26/11 accused forward.

Clinton, who said she was staying at the Taj to send a message of solidarity
and as a rebuke to terrorists who did not destroy the spirit of the people,
said she expects Pakistan to go after groups like the LeT. We have in our
dialogue with Pakistan been very clear that it is imperative Pakistan has to go
after every terror group. These groups are no longer working alone, now they
are part of a criminal syndicate. No terrorist group can be left alone,
everyone must be acted against.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton won a small diplomatic victory here
recently. Few Americans are likely to have heard about it.

The issue was Cuba, and the details were arcane. Clinton and her team, in
negotiations on the sidelines of the Organization of American States assembly,
persuaded 33 other governments not to allow Cuba back into the OAS without a
process that respects the group's charter language on democracy.

It wasn't easy. Most of the assembly, frustrated with the USA's desire to
isolate Cuba, wanted to lift the 1962 suspension without conditions. Ted
Piccone, a Latin America expert at the Brookings Institution, called it a
great win for the State Department.

[FairfieldLife] Hillary backs reconciliation talks with Taliban

Hillary backs reconciliation talks with Taliban if they are willing
to abandon violence

So apparently, if they are willing to abandon violence and pursue
their goal of implementing Islamic law by other means, that is just
fine with her. Here is yet another demonstration of the danger of
misdiagnosis of the global jihad threat: the problem is not the means
the Taliban use, the problem is their goal. The Taliban are not bad
because they are violent -- after all, so are the forces that oppose
them. However, as far as the President and the Secretary of State are
concerned, that is the only problem with them. If they try to
accomplish their goals at the ballot box rather than with guns and
bombs, Obama and Clinton would welcome them as partners. The fact
that the Taliban want to impose a law upon Afghanistan that would
subjugate women and non-Muslims as inferiors, denied equality of
rights with Muslim men, and extinguish freedom of speech and freedom
of conscience, means nothing to them.

And why should it? Karzai's Afghanistan is already a Sharia state,
according to the Afghan Constitution.

US backs reconciliation with non-violent Taliban, from AFP, March
31 (thanks to JE):

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Tuesday backed Afghanistan's
plans to hold reconciliation talks with members of the Taliban or
past Al-Qaeda supporters who reject violence.
We must ... support efforts by the government of Afghanistan to
separate the extremists of Al-Qaeda and the Taliban from those who
joined their ranks not out of conviction, but out of desperation,
she said.
They should be offered an honourable form of reconciliation and
reintegration into a peaceful society, if they are willing to abandon
violence, break with Al-Qaeda, and support the constitution

Why not? The Afghan Constitution declares that Sharia is the highest
law of the land.

Esp. interesting since the Afghan president just signed allow
legalizing rape. Hillary to you have a letter from Bill?:

It will be forever ignored or denied by those who insist that Islam
is a Religion of Peace, but in reality there is no Misunderstanding
of Islam going on here. Every provision of this law as stated in this
article, including the rule that women cannot refuse sex to their
husbands at any time or for any reason, is part of traditional
Islamic law. And so this new law is yet another indication of how the
overtures to the Taliban from official Washington are out of focus.
Will the U.S. stand up for these women and defend them? Absolutely
not, because they are being victimized by Sharia, to which Washington
has no apparent objection, and because they are not being blown up in
terrorist attacks. The passing of a law in a non-violent manner --
what's the problem? It's democracy at work!

Hamid Karzai signs law 'legalising rape in marriage,' by Ben Farmer
in the Telegraph, March 31 (thanks to Leal):

President Hamid Karzai has signed a law the UN says legalises rape in
marriage and prevents women from leaving the house without permission.
The law, which has not been publicly released, is believed to state
women can only seek work, education or doctor's appointments with
their husband's permission.
Only fathers and grandfathers are granted custody of children under
the law, according to the United Nations Development Fund for Women.
Opponents of the legislation governing the personal lives of
Afghanistan's Shia minority have said it is worse than during the
Taliban.
Mr Karzai has been accused of electioneering at the expense of
women's rights by signing the law to appeal to crucial Shia swing
voters in this year's presidential poll.
While the Afghan constitution guarantees equal rights for women, it
also allows the Shia community, thought to represent 10 per cent of
the population, the right to settle family law cases according to
Shia law.
The Shiite Personal Status Law contains provisions on marriage,
divorce, inheritance, rights of movement and bankruptcy.
The bill passed both houses of the Afghan parliament, but was so
contentious that the United Nations and women's rights campaigners
have so far been unable to see a copy of the approved bill

Hillary Clinton Mouthing Along To Presidential Oath

JANUARY 20, 2009

WASHINGTON—Network news cameras covering Barack Obama's inauguration ceremony
Tuesday captured Hillary Clinton silently moving her lips along with each word
of the
minute-long presidential oath of office. As she stood watching several yards
from Chief
Justice John Roberts, the former Democratic presidential candidate could be
observed
placing her left hand on a leather appointment book and raising her right hand
slightly from
her hip. Clinton, who carefully followed the swearing-in procedure with her
eyes shut
tightly, only varied from the president's words once, when she soundlessly
mouthed her
name instead of Barack Obama's. Clinton was later seen at an inaugural ball
pretending she
was dancing with first lady Michelle Obama.

State Dept Photo I want to thank Steve for his comments that really
summarized the full range of experience and expertise of both the
Foreign Service and the Civil Service, and also to send my
appreciation to all of the nationals around the world who work in our
embassies and work with government officials.

This is going to be a challenging time and it will require 21st

opportunities. I'm going to be asking a lot of you. I want you to
think outside the proverbial box. I want you to give me the best
advice you can. I want you to understand there is nothing that I
welcome more than a good debate and the kind of dialogue -- (applause)

We cannot be our best if we don't demand that from ourselves and each

working with our President, to make sure that we deliver on the
promises that are at the very core of what this new Administration and
this new era represent. So we need to collaborate, and we need to have
a sense of openness and candor in this building. And I invite that.

Now, not everybody's ideas -- (applause) -- will make it into policy,
but we will be better because we have heard from you.

Date: 01/22/2009 Description: 67th Secretary of State Hillary Clinton

State Dept PhotoI also want to address a word to the USAID family. I
will be there tomorrow to greet them and thank them for the work
they've done on behalf of development through some very difficult
years, because they will be our partners. (Applause.)

Now, as Steve candidly said, so far, we're thrilled. (Laughter.) This
is not going to be easy. (Laughter.) I don't want anybody to leave
this extraordinarily warm reception thinking, oh, good -- (laughter)
-- you know, this is going to be great. It's going to be hard. But if
it weren't hard, somebody else could do it, besides the professionals
of the Foreign Service and the Civil Service and our Diplomatic and

Now, as you may have heard percolating through the building, you know,
when I was first nominated, I realized that there was this living,
organic creature known as the building. (Laughter.) And as you
probably already know, we are expecting the President and the Vice
President to be here in the State Department this afternoon. (Applause.)

Among the many conversations that I've had with the President and with
the Vice President, over years, but certainly much more astutely and
in a concentrated way in the last weeks, we want to send a clear and
unequivocal message: This is a team, and you are the members of that
team. There isn't anything that I can get done from the seventh floor
or the President can get done from the Oval Office, unless we make
clear we are all on the American team. We are not any longer going to
tolerate the kind of divisiveness that has paralyzed and undermined
our ability to get things done for America.

So the President will be here -- (applause) -- on his second day in

Hillary Clinton faces tough Mideast challenge
Tue Dec 30, 2008
By Sue Pleming

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Israel's attacks on Gaza could test Hillary
Clinton's mettle as the next top U.S. diplomat mediating between
Israelis and Palestinians.

As incoming President Barack Obama's secretary of state, she will have
to overcome a view of some in the Arab world she is more interested in
supporting Israel than being even-handed.

Once she stops being a U.S. senator from New York to take her new job,
Clinton could find herself pursuing the same Middle East peace that
eluded her husband, former President Bill Clinton, in the final months
of his presidency in 2000.

University of Maryland professor Shibley Telhami said opinion polls he
conducted earlier this year in Arab countries indicated Clinton was
viewed as someone who, like her husband, would work to advance Middle
East peace.

Bill Clinton had a much more positive image in the Middle East (than
George W. Bush) and Hillary is seen in a similar light, he said,
adding that her past support for Israel would not necessarily count
against her.

But even if Clinton were ready to take on the role of peace broker
early on, the upsurge in violence and Israeli and Palestinian
elections expected over the next two months, would likely delay
meaningful discussions.

There is too much blood spilled for this to end quickly. said Telhami.

Aaron Miller, who advised six secretaries of state in
Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, said Clinton was respected in the
region and disputed that she was viewed as pro-Israeli.

He said Clinton's personal and political battles as a former U.S.
presidential candidate, made her tough and resilient -- desirable
attributes in Middle East diplomacy.

More important than her prowess as a mediator will be how high a
priority Obama makes the Israeli-Palestinian issue among the many
challenges facing his new administration.

She will have to do the heavy lifting but she must be empowered and
backed up and supported by the president, said Miller, who is now at
the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington.

NOT YET TESTED

Clinton, who lost the Democratic presidential nomination to Obama,
needs to maintain a strong relationship with the new president to be
effective, he added.

While well-versed in foreign affairs, Clinton has yet to be tested in
a crisis, such as the Israeli offensive against Gaza to suppress
Palestinian rocket fire against its citizens.

She (Clinton) does not have a lot of experience in the Byzantine
negotiations in the Arab world, said Jeffrey White, of the Washington
Institute for Near East Policy.

The Bush administration has so far backed Israel's actions in Gaza and
demanded the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas stop firing rockets into
Israel and agree to a lasting cease-fire.

Edward Walker, former U.S. ambassador to Israel and Egypt, said
Clinton should go the region early. Her confirmation hearings are
expected in mid-January and she could take office immediately after
Obama's Jan. 20 inauguration.

What the administration needs to do is to say that we consider
Israeli-Palestinian peace a priority but that we cannot force the
parties into an agreement unless they are prepared for an agreement,
Walker said.

Outgoing U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who has spoken to
Clinton since the latest violence erupted, made Israeli-Palestinian
peace a priority in her past two years.

She has said both sides are closer than ever to an agreement, but
Hamas was always left out of negotiations because it refuses to
recognize Israel's right to exist. Washington regards President
Mahmoud Abbas who rules the West Bank as the sole legitimate
Palestinian representative.

Experts say it is unlikely there will be any dramatic shift in U.S.
policy toward Hamas, which has been isolated and sanctioned by
Washington and its close allies.

There will not be a turnaround in U.S. policy. They are going to have
the same problems and that is how do you put Humpty Dumpty back
together again?, said Walker.

[FairfieldLife] Hillary Building a More Powerful State Department

Hillary Rodham Clinton is seeking to build a more powerful State
Department, with a bigger budget, high-profile special envoys to
trouble spots and an expanded role in dealing with global economic
issues at a time of crisis.

Mrs. Clinton is recruiting Jacob J. Lew, the budget director under
President Bill Clinton, as one of two deputies, according to people
close to the Obama transition team. Mr. Lew's focus, they said, will
be on increasing the share of financing that goes to the diplomatic
corps. He and James B. Steinberg, a deputy national security adviser
in the Clinton administration, are to be Mrs. Clinton's chief

[FairfieldLife] Hillary Most Admired Woman of 2008

2008-12-26 Thread raunchydog
This is the seventh consecutive year that Hillary Clinton has secured
top billing as Americans' Most Admired Woman -- and the 13th year she
has made the top ten since her first appearance on the list in 1993.
The 20% naming Clinton this year is comparable to what she received in
2007 (18%), but falls short of the 28% naming her in 1998. - Gallup

The most admired woman, with the next female half as powerful as
Secretary of State designee Hillary Clinton.

That woman, Sarah Palin, has one-sixteenth of Clinton's experience,
intellect and national security knowledge. Palin being mainly a
cultural gift to anyone still moored in the 19th century. A woman who
was picked for her looks and gender, with her intellect not having
anything to do with it. If you want to know the biggest difference
between Republican and Democratic ideals where equality is concerned,
all you have to do is look at the criteria for women succeeding on the
national ticket level. Republicans still believing in appearances for
women, as if the presidency is still some beauty pageant for females,
vs. Democrats who insist on qualifications for the job. HRC being a
fully realized 21st century leader, including in the hardest won area,
national security. Not since 1998, the height of the Lewinsky
imbroglio, has Hillary Clinton enjoyed such widespread approval. This
year her admiration quotient is not based on sympathy, but on the
power of her personal political prowess and portfolio, something she's
earned in her own right that reached its height in 2008, but which she
has the chance of surpassing once she's heading the State department.

For those of us who have followed HRC over the years and not just in
2008, her rise comes as no surprise.

[FairfieldLife] Hillary: mediocre senator from New York

2008-12-09 Thread Vaj

Paglia nails it again. Great article.

As for Obama's appointment of Hillary Clinton as secretary of state,
what sense does that make except within parochial Democratic politics?
Awarding such a prize plum to Hillary may be a sop to her aggrieved
fan base, but what exactly are her credentials for that position?
Aside from being a mediocre senator (who, contrary to press reports,
did very little for upstate New York), Hillary has a poor track record
as both a negotiator and a manager. And of course both Clintons
constantly view the world through the milky lens of their own self-
interest. Well, it's time for Hillary to put up or shut up. If she
gets as little traction in world affairs as Condoleezza Rice has,
Hillary will be flushed down the rabbit hole with her feckless husband
and effectively neutralized as a future presidential contender. If
that's Obama's clever plan, is it worth the gamble? The secretary of
state should be a more reserved, unflappable character -- not a drama
queen who, even in her acceptance speech, morphed into three different
personalities in the space of five minutes.
Given Obama's elaborate deference to the Clintons, beginning with his
over-accommodation of them at the Democratic convention in August, a
nagging question has floated around the Web: What do the Clintons have
on him? No one doubts that the Clinton opposition research team was
turning over every rock in its mission to propel Hillary into the
White House. There's an information vacuum here that conspiracy
theorists have been rushing to fill.

[FairfieldLife] 'Hillary a Go for Henry'

2008-11-16 Thread Robert
Kissinger Says Clinton Will Be Outstanding Secretary

By Cherian Thomas and Julianna Goldman

Nov. 16 (Bloomberg) -- Henry Kissinger said Hillary Clinton, frontrunner to be
the next U.S. Secretary of State, would be an ``outstanding'' appointment to
the post.
New York Senator Hillary Clinton appears to be President- elect Barack Obama's
leading choice for secretary of state, according to a Democrat familiar with
the matter.
``She is a lady of great intelligence, demonstrated enormous determination and
would be an outstanding appointment,'' Kissinger, who served as secretary of
state from 1973 to 1977 under presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, told
the World Economic Forum's India Economic Summit in New Delhi today.
Clinton, who lost out to Obama for the Democratic nomination, flew to Chicago
on Nov. 13, where the two met. The meeting probably wouldn't have taken place
if Obama didn't intend to offer Clinton the position, nor would she have
traveled to Chicago if she weren't inclined to accept, this Democrat said.
``If it is true, it will show a couple of things,'' Kissinger said. ``It shows
great courage on the part of the president-elect to appoint a very strong
personality, who has an independent constituency, into a cabinet position. It
also shows willingness on the part of Clinton to subordinate herself to someone
whom she lost out to.''
Transition Team
Obama has surrounded himself with about a half dozen confidantes who are an
integral part of the transition decision making and who have refused to discuss
internal matters publicly. The group includes Vice President-elect Joe Biden,
incoming Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, the campaign's chief strategist David
Axelrod, and transition leaders John Podesta, Pete Rouse and Valerie Jarrett.
Jarrett, 52, was appointed as a senior White House adviser.
Obama said during his campaign that he would fashion a Cabinet that included
Democrats, independents and Republicans.
Kissinger, who brokered the end of the 1973 Yom Kippur war and peace talks with
the North Vietnamese, said the challenge of foreign policy for the new
administration ``is to understand that in the contemporary world, you can't
pick one problem and make it your top priority''.
``You should be in a position to move from one to the other,'' the Nobel Prize
winner said.
Relations between the U.S. and Russia, the two former superpower rivals, have
been strained by Russia's invasion of Georgia in August and by U.S. plans to
erect a missile-defense shield in Poland and the Czech Republic, two former
Soviet-bloc nations that are now members of the North Atlantic Treaty
Organization.
`Crisis of Trust'
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Nov. 15 his nation faces a ``crisis of
trust'' with the U.S. and expressed hope that relations could be improved after
Obama takes office on Jan. 20.
Kissinger said relations between the two countries had been ``good'' until two
years ago and have gone awry because of ``misunderstanding and insensitivity.''
He said the challenge for Obama would be to try and engage Russia into a
dialogue.
On China and India, he expected the U.S.'s relations with the two Asian
countries to continue to ``thrive'' under the new administration.
He said the challenge with Pakistan is ``to prevent Pakistan from becoming a
failed state.''
``A failed state with nuclear weapons will be an extraordinary challenge,''
Kissinger said.

The cloud of feminist cant about Hillary's struggling candidacy has
been noxious. Media misogyny has reached an all-time high,
screeched the National Organization for Women in a press release
titled Ignorance and Venom: The Media's Deeply Ingrained Sexism.
Groan. If women are going to play in the geopolitical big league,
they'd better toughen up and learn how to deal with all the
curveballs. Never has the soppy emotionalism of old-guard feminist
reasoning been on such open and embarrassing display. How has
Hillary, who rode her husband's coattails to the top and who trashed
every woman he seduced or assaulted, become such a feminist heroine?
What has she ever achieved on her own -- aside from the fiasco of
healthcare reform?

And if the media is treating Hillary in a gendered way, hasn't she
herself constantly and cynically dramatized her embattled womanhood?
It began with her snappish defense of her hangdog husband during the
Gennifer Flowers imbroglio of 1992. Blame tail-chasing Bill, from
Little Rock on, for sexualizing the popular perception of the
Clintons. Nubile, exploited Monica Lewinsky will always hover around
Hillary like ghostly baggage. Bill's serial abuses betray a profound
ambivalence about and deep-seated hostility to women -- something the
Clintons' giddy feminist flacks just don't see. Why was Hillary
flying around the world to those 80 countries anyhow -- building her
résumé while leaving her randy hubby unleashed? Anyone who thinks
Bill's exploits are going to stop after Hillary is president has,
well, a screw loose. New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer's entrapment in a
sex scandal is coming at a particularly inopportune moment for the
Clintons, since it simply reminds everyone again of tawdry, furtive,
high-placed adultery.

[FairfieldLife] Hillary sent me vs. My outraged misandry keeps me hating Obama

2008-09-20 Thread TurquoiseB
Isn't it fascinating the level of grace and knowing
what is important and what isn't that Hillary Clinton
brings to how she lives her life, as opposed to how
some loons who actually consider themselves her
supporters bring to theirs?

Hillary, to her credit, can think outside the box of
her own anger and disappointment, whereas these idiots
who can't even disguise the hatred they have for Obama
and men in general can't get past that anger and
consider even for a moment what might be better for
the country and the world.

My bet is that Hillary wouldn't piss on these insane
bitches if see saw them on fire. And she'd be right
not to.

Clinton Unveils New Pro-Obama Effort

MINNEAPOLIS — Hillary Rodham Clinton stepped up her efforts
Friday to swing her supporters behind Democratic presidential
candidate Barack Obama, her former rival for the nomination.

In an outreach dubbed Hillary Sent Me, the New York senator
invited her primary-season partisans to get involved directly
in Obama's campaign and to donate to it. As part of that, she
urged them to travel to a specific battleground state each
weekend, beginning with New Hampshire on Sept. 27, when she
will be campaigning for Obama in Michigan.

Today I am asking all of you to stand up with me, to hit
the road and spread the word that we must elect Barack Obama
president and send a Democratic, filibuster-proof majority
to Congress, Clinton told supporters in a conference call
Friday. This is a call to action, a must-do. We all have
a role. And there is not a moment to lose.

[FairfieldLife] 'Hillary Played the 'Alpha-Male Card'

2008-08-29 Thread Robert
In this election, Hillary played the 'Alpha Male' big-time!
She was going to prove, that she was a 'Tough and Alpha'-
As any man;
She downed that whiskey shot, like John Wayne.
She dodged bullets in foriegn lands,
Someone said, She has the 'Balls to be President.

Many of her fans were typicl man-haters

Hillary was challenged to compete with a candidate who has his
masculine and feminine side balanced.

The Clinton's mixed up feminine and masuline energy, manifested
itself within her campaign, as the theme flopped from advisor to
advisor, no one in charge...no central theme.

Her husband freaked out, that his Over the top alpha attack,
and he attempted to minimize the damage, but the damage was done.
Clinton lost his magic, he was the angry past president.

What went wrong with the Clinton campaign, is the same problem the
Bush team has had...
In attempting to be the leader- 'The Alpha-Male of the Bushie Clan...
It revealed itself to be an empty shell with Shakti on empty.

[FairfieldLife] Hillary finally knocks one out of the park

The speech was perfect, to the point, even funny
and self-deprecating when it needed to be, and
full of perfectly-calculated sound bytes like No
way. No how. No McCain.

She reshifted the focus away from her and back to
where it should be, getting rid of these Assholes
In Power and their limp-dick, threatened-by-women
and worshipping-only-money politics and policies.

Good for her. She, at least, is a team player who
understands the larger issues in this election.
She put the greater good ahead of herself, in
a way I haven't seen her do before.

It remains to be seen whether her supporters will
be able to get past their puny selves and their
puny self importance and do the same.

Did they actually listen? Did they actually hear,
I haven't spent the past 35 years in the trenches
advocating for children, campaigning for universal
health care, helping parents balance work and family,
and fighting for women's rights at home and around
the world . . . to see another Republican in the
White House squander the promise of our country
and the hopes of our people.

Or did they hear only the blood pounding in the
enlarged veins standing out on their angry faces?

Only time will tell. I may be a cynic where the
United States is concerned, but if Hillary Clinton
can step away from the self and put her energy
into the larger fight, I'm hoping that even the
pant-suited anger-fueled whiners who are still
angry that she's not on the ballot will be able
to do the same and put a check mark next to a
name that actually has a chance to be President,
and who deserves to be.

It was a very good speech. Let's hope Bill can do as good a job.

It was a terrific speech, but I thought it could have gone
after McCain a bit more. I want to see them wipe the floor
with this idiot. Stopped just short of that IMO.

Good article yesterday on how *not* doing that, after
she's made it abundantly clear she doesn't support their
actions, is really an insult to her, making it seem like
her *very* clear protestations of support for Obama
are somehow insincere.

[FairfieldLife] Hillary Clinton rises above the ashes/Scorpio

2008-08-26 Thread Rick Archer
Is Hillary Clinton saying Goodbye or is she getting ready to rise
above the Ashes?

Pluto turning direct for a Female Politician

By Lou Valentino

Dear friends of Astrological Varieties and spiritual friends of yoga and higher
learning’s,

Forgive me but I need to vent which is a part of my right to free speech.

If you are for Senator Obama you must be thrilled. Even John McCain is
thrilled. You have everything you wanted. He say’s women should have equal
rights to men. That he can unify the Democratic Party. That he can heal racial
tensions in America. That the Democratic Party can win with enough votes in
November. That he will stop the Iraq war in 16 months.

I can forgive him. After all he is born under the sign of Leo and has Uranus,
Mercury and North Node in Leo. And with Aquarius rising he wants to do his own
thing and be original. Carly Simon has the perfect song for the less than
positive side of the Leo man; You’re so vain you probably think this song is
about you.

Obama’s Moon in Gemini in the 4th house squaring his natal Pluto in the 7th
shows his inability to forgive his mother. The Moon is the natural ruler of the
fourth house and signifies the Mother in a man’s chart. He views his mother as
being emotionally restless and unable to settle down in her life. According to
her story which he won’t write this is true.

The Moon square to Pluto in the 7th house of marriage shows he did not feel
comfortable with the marriage choices his mother made. This clearly shows he is
uncomfortable around females who have acquired power. This was the main reason
that he could not pick Hillary as his running mate. He sided with his male
side. The male energy wins again. Or does it?

The 18 million people who voted for Hillary are not happy and her speech on
August 26th, Tuesday night shows the Moon placed in Cancer and in her first
house. This speech will show

an emotional side to Hillary Clinton as the Moon in Cancer makes her feel
personally emotional about her patriotism. America is born under the sign of
Cancer.

Pluto not only rules Scorpio which Hillary Clinton is born under but when it
moves into the 7th house of the public it gives power to the individual. Pluto
is the transformer. Pluto will turn direct on September 9, 2008 and move into
Hillary Clinton’s 7th house on November 21st, 2008. On October 23rd Pluto
conjuncts her natal Jupiter giving her good luck.

Although the media and the Obama campaign have taken over the Democratic Party
it is still the people who vote who win elections for others. Joe Biden is no
spring chicken. He will not be able to get Pennsylvania and other swing states
the votes that Hillary Clinton had already gotten.

I am predicting that something will stop Senator Obama from winning the
nomination and it’s not just John McCain. It is a combination of a few things.
Legal issues of authentic citizenship in America, his V.P. choice fragmenting
the Hillary Clinton voters and his inability to get the Latino vote in Florida
and California. His own choices made in hast (Moon in Gemini) will come back to
haunt him. I don’t see him legally on the ballot in every state. And I don’t
see him being the uniter but the divider when it comes to racial issues.

Obama supporters don’t care about the Democratic Party. All they care about is
their own votes and anyone else who voted for Hillary Clinton is just a mistake
within the Democratic Party that never should have happened. They say Hillary
Clinton is corrupt. As if all of the men in the history of American politics
have all been angels. What a sexist country we live in. Vote more men in and
continue the tradition of war and domestic violence against both women and
children.

And don’t forget, when their having their monthly cycle they should stay home
and god forbid they can enter a temple or church in some countries. Women can’t
be leaders of religious services and they can’t chant the Vedas. Don’t put them
near those shaved headed Budhists. They are lucky they can even vote since the
early 1900’s they didn’t have that right.

People say give it up. We don’t need Hillary Clinton. We need change in
America. She’s hard, unfeeling and even women say I want a women in the white
house but not her. She’s been a part of the system for too long. But - Joe
Biden can take her place. After all he is a man so we can overlook his long
history including voting for the Iraq war. The very issue that most Obama
voters complained about when it came to Hillary Clinton.

Hillary Clinton voters have a right to speak out and the cages that they have
set up at the DNC for Clinton voters who speak out is a clear signal from Obama
and his voters that something is very wrong and disturbing with the DNC and the
party as a whole. For every Obama
