Re "Sounds like a plan. You go first!" :

Only if you hold my hand.

von Hartmann then realised that even if humans topped themselves the Earth
could still develop future intelligent creatures via its trusty evolutionary
method. So it wasn't enough to kill all people; all forms of life must be
eradicated.

Then he realised that we have no way of knowing if other forms of life exist
on other planets in the Universe.

His final conclusion was that we should hang on and develop our scientific
know-how until we figure out how to annihilate the entire Universe. (I'm not
making this up!)

How a philosopher in the 19th century imagined science could eventually negate
the Universe I can't conceive. But, oddly enough, it may be possible today.
Some have warned that micro black holes created in the Large Hadron Collider at
CERN could swallow up the world.

Make a good movie. Mad scientists at CERN, fanatical disciples of von
Hartmann, plan to eradicate the whole shebang. But can graduate physics student
Emma Stone save us by inserting a mathematical surd into their equations?
Exciting, huh?

Eduard von Hartmann [19th century] developed an extensive and unique treatment
of universal suicide. It is heavily influenced by Buddhist thought.

Hartmann posits three stages of illusion to which humanity is subject:
 (1) that “happiness is considered attainable by the individual of today in his
earthly life”—this illusion is in Hartmann’s view exhibited particularly
prominently in the ancient world and in childhood;
 (2) that “happiness is conceived attainable by the individual in a
transcendent life after death,” an illusion characteristic of the Middle Ages
and youth; and
 (3) that “happiness [is] relegated to the future of the world,” an illusion
associated with modern times and adulthood.

Hartmann opposes the suicide of the individual as selfish and ethically
reprehensible, but he argues that humanity—all humanity, everywhere—should will
its own nonexistence [think Jonestown].

He thought that the civilized world couldn't wait for aboriginal peoples to
catch up with the latest advanced thinking and so they should be exterminated.
(Been a while since I heard a German push that option.) Then we enlightened
ones will all unite to top ourselves in a final consummation.

Excellent questionwhich I ask every day. I'm working on the "problem" and
will let you know if I'm successful.
I'm in the process of crossing off some (I believe) failed possibilities -
such as the Maharishi Effect - and am constructing a list of alternatives.
Prospects look good but it's a race against time.
