RE: [FairfieldLife] Rick's competition
I have Tom’s email somewhere. If you email me privately I can send it to you. From: FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com [mailto:FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com] Sent: Thursday, January 22, 2015 11:28 AM To: FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [FairfieldLife] Rick's competition Yup. I wrote what I wrote because it was just so WEIRD to run into mentions of Tom Campbell again, literally 50 years after I'd first heard his name. When his name came up again here, I followed a bunch of links and found several that pointed to his time spent in SoCal with Steve Gillette and Linda Albertino, so it pretty sure it has to be the same Tom Campbell. What I wonder about -- thinking back -- is whether Tom was at Squaw Valley in 1968. There were a bunch of music folks at that course who mainly kept to themselves. A few became semi-famous afterwards, and my hazy memory is that Linda may have been one of them. But since I wasn't part of their crowd I never got introduced around. So if you're in touch with Tom, Rick, please ask him for me if he was at Squaw Valley, 1968. The way I heard the story of Darcy Farrow from Steve Gillette, he was studying music at UC Riverside while trying to maintain a touring career as a folk musician back in the early 60s. So when it came time to write his thesis for his music composition class, rather than do actual research he got together with Tom Campbell and wrote this song, which he then turned in to his music professors at UCR, telling them that it was an authentic folk song that he had discovered while vacationing up near Lake Tahoe. According to the story Steve told me, the professor bought it big-time, praised Steve's analysis of the importance of this newly-discovered folk song, and gave him an A. Again, this is what I was told. I loved the story so much I bought it hook, line, and sinker. If real-life Tom has anything to either dispute or add to the story, I would love to hear it. _ From: 'Rick Archer' r...@searchsummit.com mailto:r...@searchsummit.com [FairfieldLife] FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com mailto:FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com To: FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com mailto:FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com Sent: Thursday, January 22, 2015 5:52 PM Subject: RE: [FairfieldLife] Rick's competition Tom Campbell co-wrote Darcy Farrow?
