Unlike other, more powerful techniques? Actually, sometimes, yes. The Rama trip attracted a fair number of former TMers who were tired of no results with TM. I knew at least three people who had experienced violent "twitching" (uncontrollable physical movements both in and out of meditation) with TM, ever since their teacher training courses. Upon learning the meditation taught by Rama, not only did all three start experiencing long periods  of transcendence (5 to 10 unbroken minutes in each  meditation, as opposed to almost never in their practice of TM), their twitching went away, never to return. Go figure. Who timed them and how was this done? The International Committee for Samadhic Timing Standards using a Transcendometer 500.

That's just more typically negative slander from Vaj. It was a Transcendometer 600 (the newer and more accurate model), as he is well aware. What is it that  drives some people to LIE like this, when they *know*  that their LIES will be exposed? At least he didn't snip anything maliciously to hide his nefarious intent this time, or put anything in  quotes to imply that I had said it when he knows I didn't. Maybe my constant exposure of his horrible  qualities is having a good effect after all. :-)  :-)  :-) Rats! Foiled again!Next time I'm sneakin' up with my nail.

It's  because TM is a powerful and effective meditation technique that  overuse or inappropriate use (one size does not fit all in terms of  time appropriate for TM practice) can result in destabilization  episodes.Really bad side effects can occur with any meditation method. You just have to know how to adjust the method or when to stop. Having a "canned" checking routine could also be a problem--esp. if checking doesn't suggest *stopping*. I know a couple psychiatrists in the Spiritual Emergence Network and they can tell you plenty of stories on people over meditating with horrible endings, believe me.   Many mentally-ill people who learn TM are told to only meditate for  10 mins/twice a day. Sem was doing 80 minutes a day in a group  setting, way too much for an unstable guy. MUM should let students opt  out of meditation completely, but this would mean that MUM  administrators would not being able to get their jollies exercising  totalitarian control over their subjects. Yes they should let people stop if need be, sheesh, seems like common sense to me.

Yeah, that undoubtedly would have done wonders for his psychosis. A meat and potatoes diet along with Tai Chi is what they always recommend when someone stabs someone else.

Both you and Bob appear to be drinking the same Kool-Aid. He should have been under 24-hour watch in a hospital, where he couldn't hurt anyone. At the very least, after the first incident, he should have been in the care of the police.

MUM was planning to put Sem on a plane home the next morning, so
they cannot claim that they did not see him as a serious threat. MUM
mgmt was just negligent in handling the situation,

Just negligent, after someone got stabbed? Gosh, Is that all?

 and they'll pay

Good.
