Re: [farsiweb] Standard keyboard DLL for XP

2002-04-11 Thread Arash Rezaiizadeh

Hi,

Programs that uses numerals for calculations (such as MS Excel), know only
latin digits (U+0030 to U+0039)
as well as they know U+002D as minus or subtraction sign and so on.
So if you enter for example U+06F1 into those programs, they accept that as
a regular character not a number.
This is why you can select different shapes of digits in Control Panel.

By the way, if you are serious to use Farsi shape of digits instead of their
latin forms,
I can add these shapes to TrayLayout program.

P.S. After about ten years of experiences in Windows file patching, I
believe that using
tools to correct problems on-the-fly in Windows is much better than
replacing for keeping
them up-to-date. For example you should do patches, everytime you install a
service pack
or something like that.

I think that's it. Some MS products can't work with Persian digits in a
numerical way. But I'm not a heavy MS Office user (I only use it when I
must), so I can't tell you about the exact problems.

BTW, it seems that you are sending to the list from another address than
you are subscribed to, so I need to approve every email of yours. Would
you please check?

I only use Farsi for letters :) So, I guess there would not be big problems
there. Are you refering to the problems when numbers are used, let's say in
Excel or Access (not that there are any)? Or there are other problems which
might affect me as well?

That's really weird. Perhaps I should work on a DLL for XP. Would someone
please send a copy of original kbdfa.dll for XP to me?

There are some debates about this. Persian digits on the keyboard seem to
produce some problems for Windows. Perhaps Arash Rezaiizadeh can explain.

Re: [farsiweb] Standard keyboard DLL for XP

2002-04-09 Thread Modirrousta, Mostafa

Thanks so very much. It worked like a charm on my system, XP Pro and there
was no real problem at all on installing the improved keyboard layout.

On a personal note, I would like to mention a few points.

1. If you use a file manager different than Windows Explorer (e.g. Windows
Commander) you might not get those warnings and hence you end up with a
restored *.dll and not the one you copied.

2. The new layout has changed a few characters on my keyboard, notable the
letter: 'pe' is not on the key 'M' and not on the key right above my ENTER
(i.e. \)

I am very glad that it worked as it is very hideous to write in Farsi with
Latin numbers.

Best regards,
Mostafa Modirrousta

[farsiweb] Standard keyboard DLL for XP

2002-04-09 Thread Roozbeh Pournader

I previously used your keyboard DLL for win2k; yesterday I tried it
out on XP-Pro, with success.

The steps are pretty identical, with the exception of Step 9:

Copy the file to C:\Windows\System32

[Confirm File Replace]
This folder already contains a file named 'kbdfa.dll'
Would you like to replace the existing file ...?

->Select "Yes".

[Windows File Protection]
Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced
by unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability, Windows must
restore the original versions of these files.

Insert your Windows XP Professional CD-ROM now.

-> Select "Cancel"

[Windows File Protection]

You chose not to restore the original versions of the files. This may
affect Windows stability. Are you sure you want to keep these
unrecognized file versions?

-> Select "Yes"

Yours,
Saied.
