If anyone can help me out I'd be super grateful.

First go to More Actions: - Attachments and upload your files (in PNG
and SVG, to all needed sizes), then copy/paste and modify existing code,
something like:

||icon-name|| [[ImageLink(icon-name16.png)]]
[[ImageLink(icon-name24.png)]] [attachment:icon-name16.svg 16x16 SVG]
[attachment:icon-name24.svg 24x24 SVG] || [[ImageLink(icon-nameL.png)]]
[attachment:icon-nameL.svg SVG] ||Icon Description||YourName||

The executive words are: copy and modify. Copy wiki codes form the rest
of the page.

Official Fedora Core 6 media labels

2006-10-16 Thread Rahul Sundaram

Hi

I believe duffy's version got the most votes. So I am declaring this as
official.

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork/CDArtFC6

We need a official one for consistent branding and I selected one
because the Fedora Bible author contacted me and wanted us to pick one.
So there it is.

Having access to the source (I believe Máirín used Inkscape, so SVG),
the other graphics are trivial to be produced.
Note: on the wiki we don't have sources for any of the proposals and the
PNGs are very low quality (unusable).

Duffy's proposal has the links to the Inkscape SVG file. If you can

True, but all my monitors have 4:3 screens and all the people I know use
4:3 screens (probably my _next_ monitor will be widescreen, but I don't
plan a purchase in the near future).
I can produce a wide version on request for a specific image but I am

Everyone, I'm very sorry for all the last-minute changes - I've asked
Max Jack to contact the list rather than individual artists in the

to figure out at what point in the release schedule should we work to
have the artwork finalized formatted by for FC 7.

Sounds like we should have things ready by 3 weeks before the release
date - which I think indicates the following schedule:

- 6 weeks before release date - artwork concept finalized - we choose
which to go with and it is provided in vector (preferably SVG) format.

- 3 weeks before release date - artwork formatted ready for printers.

Based on the FC6 schedule those dates tenatively and quite roughly would be:

- artwork concept finalized - mid-April
- artwork formatted ready for printers - mid/early May

Thinking ahead: some FC7 ideas

2006-10-16 Thread Luya Tshimbalanga
Learning the lesson on the artwork development for Fedora Core 6, I
wrote some ideas about the future look of Fedora Core 7 which can be seen:

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/LuyaTshimbalanga/FC7FutureArtwork

One of lesson is to plan early which explains why Echo icon theme
couldn't make it on Core 6.
Another details is to reorganize the artwork page by grouping into
different versions of Core i.e. 5, 6 or 7. Since we are about seven
artwork contributors, we should organize a meeting for tuning some
ideas. Feedback is welcome.

Yeh! I'd clarify it a bit though -

Test 1 release - Artwork concept finalized.
Test 2 release - Artwork to be included in the distribution ready
(themes/GDM/anaconda/firstboot/wallpaper/etc)
Test 3 release - Media labels, splash artwork for the website/wiki,
other ancillary artwork

Is there enough time between two test releases, between concept
finalization and theming work though? That's the majority of the work I
think...

Thanks for starting this discussion! :)

* Echo development icons is set to be the default.

This I think is pending a lot of different factors so I don't know that
we can assure this for FC7.

* New wallpaper, login screen derived from Mola/Mizmo ideas that needs
to match Echo theme

I don't think the theming work has to be made to match Echo. I think as
long as it incorporates the Fedora blue colors they'll go well together
just fine.

I'm also not sure what ideas you're referring to :) We should probably
resurrect the theming brainstorming page [1], update it for FC7 and add
some of the things that have been proposed since then (I remember some
cool things discussed on the list wrt FC7 a month or so ago.)

 * The login screen needs to get a user list which was missing since
Fedora Core 1. There is a Gnome version of list login screen that can be
used as a sample.

It is fine to create a GDM theme that includes the user list, but the
user list version cannot be made the default GDM theme. The primary
concern is security - a list of usernames on the login screen makes it
easier to guess passwords.

* Legacy artwork from Fedora Core 4 to Fedora Core 6 should be added for
users looking to have them. Packaging them in Fedora Extras might be a
good way.

That's a cool idea, but is it then okay to have the release numbers in
the artwork? (Would be weird to have FC6-specific artwork in FC7, for
example?) Should we make it a policy to leave release numbers out?
(makes it impossible then to come up with release-version specific
artwork such as the c6re [2] logo.)

* Bluecurve should be moved to Extras repository once Echo theme is
finalized.

Sure.

* It appears Cairo engine is very stable. It will be be nice to for some
people to generate an enhanced Clearlook theme for Fedora Core 7.

Developing a theme is pretty difficult time-consuming but if we can
get some good mockups early on then it'd be easier to hit FC7.

* Since there is a lot KDE users, provide the artworks to smoothly blend
with Gnome applications.

I'm not sure what you mean by smoothly blend with GNOME applications? Do
you mean the theming work for GNOME should also be done for KDE? Is
anybody on the list a KDE user or knowledgable about KDE such they could
advise us on this?

* Making Anaconda look very pleasant without compromising the performance.

I'm not sure what you mean here - the colors available? The design of
the screens? Some things there isn't a whole lot there can be done about
because of technical limitations. If there are specific issues we want
to target let's create a list and I can discuss it with Jeremy Katz and
see how much is possible.

I'd suggest Murrine GTK2 Cairo Engine¹. I have been using
MurrinaGilouche² which is based on this engine. Tweaking an existing
theme is much less time consuming and is deliverable.

It's odd to see the discussion of metacity and gtk2 themes off the
table for FC6. And I think they are the most important elements
because for one thing they are what users see 99% of their time using
computer. As hibernation/suspension works quite well now, most of the
people may see their login screen once a month and grub splash screen
once half a year.

Right. I was thinking to gather desktop environments artists (including

xfce, well all DE available in Extras repository).

 * Making Anaconda look very pleasant without compromising the performance.

Let's get the list of technical limitation so we can work around it.
One of example is the customization screen which I found plain, not
professional. We will need to polish them with tools like Glade 3 which
should be available in rawhide soon.
