Would you mind giving us a summary?

Lots and lots and lots of people liked Solar. One person complained that
the blue in the star was too bright. (if anything it's not bright
enough, but that's a different story)

A significant proportion of people liked InvinXble, but not all felt
that a katana was appropriate for Fedora. And someone found the name
unpronounceable.

A few people liked Neon, but some thought that the colors were too
shocking.

A few people liked Gears, but some thought that it wasn't explored to
its fullest potential.

Would you mind giving us a summary?

Sure, here is summary of comments from fedora-fr for each theme:

About Solar:
- Sun to bright from one voter
- Effects that brought back the success of Flying High theme from Fedora 7
- the most favourite theme by far

About InvinXble
- Split between the choice to have a katana or not
- Some voters found the katana looks too much like the one from Kill
Bill movie
- Katana has too much presence
- Petal effects from flower impressed the voters

About Neon
- Too colourful
- Neon too big and too bright
- Colours too classic

About Gears:
- Not enough blue
- Retro style was disliked by most voters
- Stream Punk was highlighted for the vote

Some users would like to get ability to choose themes from round 3 not
selected by defaut(login, background, grub, etc) .

With a combined votes from both fedora-fr[1] and fedoraforum.org[2]
and excluding none of them choice:

Solar 67/135 49.6%
InvinXble50/135 37.0%
Gears 10/1357.4%
Neon 8/135 6.0%

Oops, I forgot to actually reply to this... sorry about that :)

Looks pretty good now, though at 48x48 the stripe border looks blurry
and in smaller sizes it's not visible at all (but that does not matter
much). On the 256x256 the stripe outline could be thinner and
semi-transparent.

The shadow is too intensive, decrease the opacity and it should be good
enough :)

Invinxible is by far the nicest theme in my opinion. I don't really see a
problem with having a nice katana on the desktop, the katana when invented
was a marvel of technology, like Fedora is today.

I have showed the invinxible theme to many people and not one has replied
negatively in any way, artistically or as a result of offence over the

It'd be cool to see one with spinning gears for Gears, and one with
solar flares for Solar!

The gear one was easy to implement, it is just a case of deciding the
position and speed of turning. Because tiny angle changes are easily
visible on gears (the teeth are not aligned) there must be a massive
number of rotated images stored in memory (360 works well). The other
problem is that because there is a directional shade across the gear
image I used, it looks a bit naff when that shade then rotates and the
shades of the different gears are at different angles.

The solar one on the other hand is rather difficult to make. Animating
the flares is quite hard but I think I should have something to show
quite soon.

I added some shading to the invinXble theme [1]. And I had a bit of a go
at creating solar flares[2] on the solar theme[3]. This still needs
quite a bit of work and it doesn't look as nice as thee invinXble one.

requesting art group membership? please read this

2008-09-22 Thread Máirín Duffy

Hi,

Since i announced the F10 theme vote, we've received a deluge of art
group membership requests, some clearly approveable but many not.

Here is a reminder of what you need to do in order to be considered for
membership in the FAS art group, as outlined on the Fedora Art Team main
wiki page [1]:

-1- Join this mailing list

-2- Send an introduction to the mailing list, talking about your
art/design experience and interests so we'll know what kinds of design
tasks you might be interested in helping out with.

-3- Complete a small design task such as one at the design service queue
or email the fedora-art-list mailing list to be assigned a task.

-4- Once you've completed an initial draft of your design task, submit
it to the fedora-art-list for feedback. Once the task has been completed
and approved, you may then proceed with requesting access to the art group.

If you have not fulfilled these 4 steps, your membership request will
not be approved.

If you have done work for the art team in the past but have not applied
for art group membership for whatever reason, or if you have applied for
membership but it is still unapproved, I would greatly appreciate if you
would email fedora-art-list with a note saying that you are applying for
art group membership, and also noting which work(s) you completed that
you'd like considered in your application.

Thanks!

Self-introduction

2008-09-22 Thread Kevin Kofler
I just applied for membership for the art group in FAS. My existing
contributions to Fedora artwork:
* I helped with fedoraflyinghigh-kdm-theme (the KDM port of the equivalent GDM
theme) and did fedorainfinity-kdm-theme (KDM port of fedorainfinity-gdm-theme)
essentially all alone.
* I also did some Bluecurve stuff:
- symlinks for bluecurve-icon-theme for KDE 4
- the Quarticurve stuff (qt4-theme-quarticurve, quarticurve-kwin-theme)
My plans for the future are to continue helping out with getting themes
adapted/ported to KDE and with KDM theme design (as KDM now needs its own
themes, we no longer have GDM themes to just port).
