I just uploaded the labels I put together for Max Jack here:

The sleeve now corresponds with the 3D art Mola did for the release and
the DVD label has the original DNA strand artwork. I'm attaching larger
PNGs of the artwork so you can take a look.

I think this design is clearly better compared with your old one which
won the vote (I abstained from that vote as I din not liked enough any
of the candidates and was not able to come myself with something better).

In general, as a team I think we're making great progress - we've gotten
community artwork into the distro for the first time which I think is a
big step. To get better though, we need better organization. For the
DVD/CD artwork, for example, I think we should have a single person as
'owner' to organize the work so there's less chaos/confusion and so it's
done on time and in the right format. I think for all artwork maybe we
could try to hold critiques/review sessions to hash out the issues
before it's too late to use the artwork.

I hope you are less frustrated with the way our project is going, take a
more active leadership, kick our lazy asses and put us to work :D

How long do we have until FC 7? ;-) Let's up it a notch for then!

Yup, we should not wait the FC6 release, the after-release party and the
after-party hangover and recovery to start working on FC7 graphics, we
can do it right now.

I'm not sure if it is all.

This is the list of specifications we have so far:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork/ThemingOverview

My suggestion is to not get carried away and create a complete theme, do
some sketches or mockups, present ideas to people, get feedback as early
as possible, ask for help. Do not waste a lot of efforts without
positive feedback from other people, we don't want you to get burned.
Also keep in mind that whatever theme will end in FC7, it will be made
into the final form by a *team* - see FC6 as an example: Mairin got the
DNA metaphor, Mola the 3D rendering, Diana final polish and the rest of
us feedback and after the theme got in the distro, the team started to
produce derivative materials: Firefox start page, CD/DVD labels etc.

Speaking of that, how about some DNA themed web banners and buttons?

Official Fedora Core 6 media labels

2006-10-16 Thread Rahul Sundaram

Hi

I believe duffy's version got the most votes. So I am declaring this as
official.

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork/CDArtFC6

We need a official one for consistent branding and I selected one
because the Fedora Bible author contacted me and wanted us to pick one.
So there it is.

Having access to the source (I believe Máirín used Inkscape, so SVG),
the other graphics are trivial to be produced.
Note: on the wiki we don't have sources for any of the proposals and the
PNGs are very low quality (unusable).

Duffy's proposal has the links to the Inkscape SVG file. If you can
produce the other variants that we need, lets do that.

Are you asking about the wallpapers on my personal website? (the link in

not matter.
If you want a raster image at a certain resolution, open the file in
Inkscape and export to PNG without any lack of quality (but Fedora is

True, but all my monitors have 4:3 screens and all the people I know use
4:3 screens (probably my _next_ monitor will be widescreen, but I don't
plan a purchase in the near future).
I can produce a wide version on request for a specific image but I am
not motivated enough to work on all of them (there is no itch to scratch).

Most definitely! M. Duffy´s proposal is way off with respect to the DNA
theme look feel. I would have had no doubt voting for Diana´s proposal
if I had been aware of the vote mentioned earlier ..

I think the Diana Fong's one looks like more to the DNA theme and
 should be used.

Everyone, I'm very sorry for all the last-minute changes - I've asked
Max Jack to contact the list rather than individual artists in the
future so we'll all be better able to stay in the loop. I'm also trying
to figure out at what point in the release schedule should we work to
have the artwork finalized formatted by for FC 7.

Sounds like we should have things ready by 3 weeks before the release
date - which I think indicates the following schedule:

- 6 weeks before release date - artwork concept finalized - we choose
which to go with and it is provided in vector (preferably SVG) format.

- 3 weeks before release date - artwork formatted ready for printers.

Based on the FC6 schedule those dates tenatively and quite roughly would be:

- artwork concept finalized - mid-April
- artwork formatted ready for printers - mid/early May

Yeh! I'd clarify it a bit though -

Test 1 release - Artwork concept finalized.
Test 2 release - Artwork to be included in the distribution ready
(themes/GDM/anaconda/firstboot/wallpaper/etc)
Test 3 release - Media labels, splash artwork for the website/wiki,
other ancillary artwork

Is there enough time between two test releases, between concept
finalization and theming work though? That's the majority of the work I
think...
