DVD-ROM thinks every disk is a blank disc

2009-08-03 Thread Andrig T. Miller
I had an older PC lying around that had a bad memory chip in it, and I decided to get it up and running again. I installed Fedora 11 (with the bad memory chip removed) on it, and everything seems to work great, except my DVD-ROM. There are no errors in dmesg or messages, and the drive is detected

Yes, I found it under /dev/mapper, and it is as follows: luks-89b2dea1-11d5-4d7f-b355-ffec575a1b09 I'll try this in a moment, and see if it works. Thanks for the help. Andy On Wed, Jul 1, 2009 at 1:35 PM, Bruno Wolff III wrote: > On Wed, Jul 01, 2009 at 13:05:09 -0600, >  "

Converting to EXT4 on encrypted lvm

2009-07-01 Thread Andrig T. Miller
After upgrading to Fedora 11 x86_64, I started to look into converting to EXT4 from EXT3. My / partition is an lvm that is encrypted (I do have a separate /boot). I tried following the instructions using tune2fs -O extents,uninit_bg,dir_index /dev/sda2 (my / device and /boot is /dev/sda1). I get

So, I should have know better. Alan, you were correct. While I don't have the same performance problem under the older kernel, the error messages started showing up, and when I ran smartctrl -Hc /dev/sda is says my hard disk is about to fail. Andy On Tue, Nov 4, 2008 at 11:23 AM, And

So why doesn't this happen when I boot the older kernel, and the performance of my system is back to normal, and there is no wait time (was near 100% before)? Andy On Tue, Nov 4, 2008 at 10:39 AM, Alan Cox <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Media error is a flag raised directly by the drive. The kerne

After booting the with the latest 2.6.26.6-79 kernel on Fedora 9, my system became extremely slow. To the point that Gnome menus would take 20-30 seconds just to drop down. Loading applications as simple as gedit would take a minute or two. In looking into this problem, I opened a terminal and

Upgrade Question

Okay, I'm trying to upgrade a server of mine from Fedora 8 to 9. The server does not have a CD or DVD drive. It only has a USB key that I can boot from. In the past, I have used the diskboot.img file (using dd to the USB key), and booted from it, and used HTTP to do upgrades. With Fedora 9 that

I have additional information on what's going on for me with this. I ran nm-connection-editor from the command-line, and when I hit the add button on the Mobile Broadband tab I get the following error messages: ** (nm-connection-editor:6655): WARNING **: create_new_connection_for_type: unhandled
