MUSTFIX:
* Package doesn't honor RPM_OPT_FLAGS:
# rpmbuild ...
...
g++ -c -ggdb -pipe -I/usr/lib/wx/include/gtk2-unicode-release-2.8
-I/usr/include/wx-2.8 -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -D_LARGE_FILES -D__WXGTK__ -pthread
-I/usr/include -I/usr/X11R6/include -I. AppGSpiceUI.cpp -o obj/AppGSpiceUI.o
...

Also, next time, please provide URLs to the *.src.rpm.
It's very inconvenient for reviewers not being able to see the
%{version}-%{release}'s of a package under review.

Rpmlint complains about the absense of any documentation in this package.
However since there are separate upstream tarballs for reference and
documentation (http://bouml.free.fr/download.html), I am planning to submit a
separate -doc sub-package for them.

Mustfix:

- Please either disable building the static libs (Append --disable-static tp
%configure) or package the *.a's into a *-static sub-packages.

- Your buildroot doesn't comply to the Fedora Packaging Guidelines

Recommendation:
- I recommend to install this package's headers into a subdirectory of
%{_includedir} instead of directly installing them into %{_includedir}.

(Append --includedir=%{_includedir}/fann (or similar) to %configure)

Using URLd spec builds fine, and rpmlint only complains about noarch, which is

important.

Thanks.

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2007-07-09 09:23 EST ---
Here's my review, I'm not an official reviewer. Anything marked with a
indicates potential problems that may need to be addressed.

MUST Items:
* rpmlint - passes, no errors reported.
* Package naming is good. Uses same naming of upstream package with
postgresql prefix %{parent}-%{name}. Version is all numeric.
* Package name and spec file name match.
* The package meets the Packaging Guidelines.

  - License is BSD, which corresponds to pgfoundry page. Actual source
distribution does not contain any Licensing attribution

  - No license in source, so no need to include in %doc
  - The spec file is written in American English, and is legible.
  - Upstream source matches source in the RPM
  - RPM builds on i386
  - BuildRequires appears sane. The postgresql-devel will contain the
appropriate compiler requirements.
  - Locales are not a problem as they are not supported.

* - ldconfig is called, however the .so files are not installed in the
system library search paths, so it appears that this step is redundant.

  - Relocation not supported, so no special checks for that.

* - The package does not own the directory %{_datadir}/%{name}
  - MUST: A package must own all directories that it creates. If it does not
create a directory that it uses, then it should require a package which does
create that directory. The exception to this are directories listed explicitly
in the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard
(http://www.pathname.com/fhs/pub/fhs-2.3.html), as it is safe to assume that
those directories exist.

  - No duplicate files noted, permissions appear correct, defattr is
present. Correct %clean section is present.
  - Macro usage appears consistent.
  - RPM contains code, not content, no need for a -doc subpackage.
  - There are no dependencies on the %doc readme file.
  - No header files or static libraries, so no need for a -devel package.
  - rm -rf %buildroot is at the beginning of %install
  - All filenames are be valid UTF-8.

SHOULD Items:

* - SHOULD: If the source package does not include license text(s) as a
separate file from upstream, the packager SHOULD query upstream to include it.

* - SHOULD: The description and summary sections in the package spec file
should contain translations for supported Non-English languages, if available.
  - SHOULD: The reviewer should test that the package builds in mock.
I do not have mock installed.. Not tested.

  - SHOULD: The package should compile and build into binary rpms on all
supported architectures.
- Only tested on i386

  - SHOULD: The reviewer should test that the package functions as
described. A package should not segfault instead of running, for example.
- Works well on i386

* - SHOULD: Usually, subpackages other than devel should require the base
package using a fully versioned dependency.

It seems to me that this extension might now work with postgres 8.3, 8.4,
9.0?? The following Requires appears overly broad...

Requires: postgresql-server = 8.1

* Consider adding the -p flag to the install commands for the sql and the
README file to preserve the original timestamps.

Should it be running as user nobody? I have vague recollection of the rule
 that
each process should be running as its own user.

I'm just starting to read:

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/PackageUserCreation
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/PackageUserRegistry

These changes appear more involved, and would require some time to get resolved.

If possible I'd like to release with memcached running as user nobody for the
moment, and then follow the correct process for adding users and registering a
memcached user.

Hello,

(In reply to comment #1)

   - License is BSD, which corresponds to pgfoundry page. Actual source
distribution does not contain any Licensing attribution

Yeah, I bugged the developers about this.

 * - ldconfig is called, however the .so files are not installed in the
system library search paths, so it appears that this step is redundant.

'k, removed.

 * - The package does not own the directory %{_datadir}/%{name}

Ok, fixed.

 * - SHOULD: The description and summary sections in the package spec file
should contain translations for supported Non-English languages, if available.

There are no translations available.

 * - SHOULD: Usually, subpackages other than devel should require the base
package using a fully versioned dependency.

No subpackage, so no need for this item.

It seems to me that this extension might now work with postgres 8.3, 8.4,
9.0?? The following Requires appears overly broad...

It may work, if one day those releases are out. I don't want to limit it to 8.2.

 * Consider adding the -p flag to the install commands for the sql and the
README file to preserve the original timestamps.

Ok, done.

Thanks for the review.

Regards, Devrim

If you look my my spec file you will see that i comment it for now.
cause some option from RPM_OPT_FLAGS doesn't really work well.
What does doesn't work well mean in this context?

I'll upload the build log which honor RPM_OPT_FLAGS
I regret having to say this, but make this package build using RPM_OPT_FLAGS, or
it won't have a future in Fedora.

So, how do we proceed from here? I think all the technical and stylistic issues
with this package's spec file are now all sorted out (if not, please let me
know!).

What do I need to do to wrap up this review process, get sponsored on the cvs
and build machines, and move the new .rpm into live the extras area?

Thanks,

  Alec

I'm not sure what else needs to be done to transfer the bug over to zlib.

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2007-07-09 12:45 EST ---
I was wrong! (It happens)

The FSF says:

Section 6 of LGPLv2.1 says You must give prominent
notice with each copy of the work that the Library is used in it So,
when I read the fourth exception of FLTK's license, I think the first
paragraph exempts the licensor from many of the requirements of section 6,
and then the rest goes on to explain that they're not exempt from this
particular requirement, perhaps a little more verbosely than is necessary.
The example given is, sure enough, one way to comply with this requirement,
though not the only way.

It might be helpful to bear in mind that the original BSD advertising
clause required you to publish an acknowledgment in advertisements, and not
just the software itself. The example provided as a way to comply with
FLTK's license -- a statement in the user documentation -- suggests to me
that they do not intend to impose on your advertising.

*
Or, in very simple terms, fltk's license is GPL-Compatible. Lifting FE-Legal.

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2007-07-09 13:10 EST ---
I've updated the spec file to use the /usr/lib/openssl/engines directory, thanks
for catching that. This also has a fixed Source0 with the /files folder added
to the URL. Lastly I included 0.9.6 in the OpenSSL requires, since that is
when the engine support was added.

The following spec file and srpm built cleanly on i386 and x86_64 and produce no
errors with rpmlint.

framework
   Product: Fedora
   Version: devel
  Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: medium
  Priority: medium
 Component: Package Review
AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 QAContact: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Spec URL:

http://www.bagu.org/eclipse/junit4.spec

SRPM URL:

http://www.bagu.org/eclipse/junit4-4.3.1-1jpp.1.fc7.src.rpm

Description:

JUnit is a regression testing framework written by Erich Gamma and Kent
Beck. It is used by the developer who implements unit tests in Java.
JUnit is Open Source Software, released under the IBM Public License and
hosted on SourceForge.

Additional Info:

The reason I am proposing a new junit4 package rather than updating the junit3
package is because eclipse 3.3 requires junit 3 and 4.

It might be helpful to bear in mind that the original BSD advertising

 just the software itself.

SRPM URL:
http://remi.collet.free.fr/rpms/extras/php-pecl-phar-1.2.0-1.fc8.src.rpm
Mock Log: http://remi.collet.free.fr/rpms/extras/php-pecl-phar-build.log
Description:
This is the extension version of PEAR's PHP_Archive package. Support for
zlib, bz2 and crc32 is achieved without any dependency other than the
external zlib or bz2 extension.

.phar files can be read using the phar stream, or with the Phar class.
If the SPL extension is available, a Phar object can be used as an array
to iterate over a phar's contents or to read files directly from the phar.

Phar archives can be created using the streams API or with the Phar class,
if the phar.readonly ini variable is set to false.

Full support for MD5 and SHA1 signatures is possible. Signatures can be
required if the ini variable phar.require_hash is set to true.
When PECL extension hash is available then SHA-256 and SHA-512 signatures
are supported as well.

--
As this package requies php = 5.2.0, it will be only available in F = 7

Note : this spec use some new stuff for pecl extension :
- register pecl extension (as pear extension)
- run test in %check (at least, find a way to do this)

The phar.phar command is a good phar example ;)

Alright, new spec and srpm in the same place as before. Added doxygen and
graphviz to the buildreqs.

Also, had to move --docdir for the package to not be %{name}-%{version}, since
that's where %doc will install to, and where %doc will delete before installing.
So you now get %{_docdir}/libxcb and %{_docdir}/libxcb-1.0. I guess that's
okay?

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2007-07-09 15:36 EST ---
Hello,

 See configure file for this.

You mean the PACKAGE_NAME?
The tarball is slony1-1.2.10.tar.bz2, the upstream project is called Slony-I,
and the first line of the README file says Slony-I. From
the NamingGuidelines:
When naming a package, the name should match the upstream tarball or project
name from which this software came.

 Missing yacc parser.y parser.c
? No idea what this means.
yacc is provided by bison, and seems to be used by Slony-I:
http://www.gnu.org/software/bison/

 - Since postgresql_autodoc is now available, maybe you can add it to the
 BuildRequires
I don't think so. Is there anything that depends on autodoc?

configure is searching for it, so I assume it is used.

Some people may skip doc builds.
But doc is a separate package in Fedora, and people can just choose to not
install it.

Slony looks for /usr/local/pgsql/bin/pg_config first. If someone has a source
installation of PostgreSQL, then the build will break

This won't be a problem when the package is build on the Fedora buildservers. I
understand that you want to maintain one upstream
specfile for all versions of Red Hat and Fedora, but having a clean spec in
Fedora makes things more easier in the long run.

A few other comments:

- Double BuildRequires for docbook-style-dsssl
- Is %kerbdir still needed? If not, there's no need to change CFLAGS, CXXFLAGS
and CFLAGS and a simple %configure will do.

And:

rpmlint of postgresql-slony1-engine-docs:

Sorry for the delay. Got an update here:

http://www.cora.nwra.com/~orion/fedora/libproj4.spec
http://www.cora.nwra.com/~orion/fedora/libproj4-050319-2.src.rpm

* Mon Jul  9 2007 - Orion Poplawski [EMAIL PROTECTED] - 050319-2
- Move .so to main package and manual to -devel.

Upstream makes no provision for a versioned soname. As I understand it, it is
problematic to add one in case upstream decides on a different scheme later on.

(In reply to comment #10)

 - Provides: libglew-devel = %{version}-%{release}
Why do you need this ?

No good reason I can think of, gone.

 - CFLAGS=-Iinclude $RPM_OPT_FLAGS
This will replace -Iinclude indeed - so you may need to have this in %prep (to
 prevent CFLAGS replacement)
 sed -i -e 's|$(POPT)|%{optflags}|' Makefile

I can't remember how the CFLAGS got in there in the first place, your fix seems
to work, applied.

 - Prefer to use this at %prep (if possible for the doc generated before make)
 sed -i 's/\r//' README.txt doc/*

Heh, I just advised the same to someone else in a different review. It isn't
necessary anymore, gone.

 - doc sub-package isn't really big, you may consider to merge it with the
 -devel

I'm not sure what the criteria is for splitting or not. As HTML documentation,
it really ought to require a web-browser.. Left as separate for now.

 - make should uses %{?_smp_mflags} (it seems to work)

Done.

 W: glew unused-direct-shlib-dependency

Don't know what to do about this, I added the extra BuildRequires anyway.

 - Shouldn't we block FE-LEGAL for the sgi problem or is this clear enought for
 you ?

It seems that if it is ok for debian then it ought to be ok for fedora. I'll
block FE-LEGAL if it is necessary to bring it to attention?

rpmlint complain about W: glew invalid-license Assorted licenses,

See previous comment, according to the debian document the license would be
something like BSD + GPL
