I've been away for a week, but I'm sure you've had lots of suggestions. You might consider seeing a holistic vet. My cat got very sick with a URI when first diagnosed. We used immunoregulin, interferon, and lots of vitamins and things prescribed by the holistic vet. She got better and lived about

Yes, if the anemia is caused by lymphoma, leukemia the cancer, or an auto-immune response, steroids are one of the best things to use and are actually necessary.

Hi Guys-
I hope I am posting this the right way.
We just found out today that we are positive.
Chester just turned a year old in April. We got him after we was weaned and
has been inside our house ever since. I suspect that he got it from his
mother (his mother was an indoor cat-or that's what
Talk to your vet about low dose oral interferon. Also, I don't unnderstand the prednisone. This can hinder immune system functioning and make it harder for him to kick a cold. Baytril can be harsh on a cat's system too. I think I'd probably wean him off the pred and look at Zithromax instead of

Anyone know where I can purchase lysine in powder form?
I am so tired of grinding up pills.
Thanks

Lisa,
You may need to change vets, as many of us have had to
do. There are positive cats on this list who have lived as long as 14.
Though that is not the norm, many of us have had positives live to 5, 6, or
longer. I am always afraid of jinxing mine, but I have a 5 year old and a 6 year
Look in a health food store or online for Lysine in capsules. It comes that
way, and you can open the capsules and use the powder.

Hi Lisa,
Take a look at the responses to Maggie's posts, Off antibiotics, it
seems like they will apply to you guys as well. I completely agree that
separating Timmy and Chester at this point doesn't make any sense. I
would have Timmy tested, just so you know. Did you have him
Has Chester had blood work to see if there is something else going
on? Also sometimes positives need to stay on the anitibiotics longer
than a cat with a healthy immune system. I really think blood work
should be done specifically checking for anemia. Check his gums and see
if they look
Hi Karen,
I get my lysine here, I get the capsules and just open them and
sprinkle on food but they also sell the powder form.

Here is the powder specifically, 1 pound for $9.56
PS. That size would last forever since you would just use a pinch twice
a day.

Hi,
It depends on what is causing the anemia, Bailey was getting high
doses of pred along with epogen to fight his anemia.
this is not good as pred is an immune suppressant, not to mention
I don't think it is necessarily the best way of handling anemia
