I don't vaccinate for distemper in my FeLV cats anymore. I had 2 die within a
month of being vaccinated. I got rabies at the time they were fixed only
because the county requires it. Unless your cats are at risk, I wouldn't
vaccinate. But that's just my 2 cents.

Hi,
I brought home the 5 month old feluk postive kitten last night. She is just
a little over 2 lbs. I am worried about her not eating, I know I only
brought her home last night, but I don't think she touched her food. Any
suggestions on some really good yummy food I could feed her, to
If you're trying to 'jump start' her eating, my suggestion is feed her
anything she'll eat. Fancy Feast usually gets raves. But also try some
people food--the 'tuna water' with a little of the tuna mixed in, ham,
turkey, etc., baby food without onions, anything at all just to get some
Hi Jeni
Try A/D... Its prescription from the vet but I buy it by the case...
A few drops of tomato juice with it sometimes makes it even better...
Or some like it thinned with water...
I have found that interferon works very quickly for making them feel
better and thus eat

I second Chris' guess that the little angel is probably scared and not
eating right away because of that. Along with the suggestions already
given, you might also try the ProPlan kitten food, it's not the best
food, (same with Fancy Feast), but I've never met a kitten that didn't
like at

Or try a Fentanyl patch (often called duragestic patches). That's a patch
that they shave the cat and stick it on them, lasts for 3-4 days. Very
effective pain relief. I'd be very concerned if my vet didn't offer pain
meds, and then when pressed offered aspirin, that should be one of the last
I have to second that caution, only it was ME that ended up in the ER with a

No. Saliva tests are not accurate. For that matter, even professionally run
blood tests have false results occasionally. This was discussed in depth not
too long ago, check the archives for anything with ELISA,SNAP, or FELV
testing in the subject.

The tiny cans of Fancy Feast, one is called fish and shrimp FLAKED feast, blue

never had a cat turn it down yet. Short term food, of course, it's not a good

Welcome to the group Nita, it sounds like you are doing your best, and have
priorities straight to me, spay/neuter always comes first. I'd put the best

Hi Nina
The situation has been a bit overwhelming for me. As this was the other vet
in the office we saw Friday. I did not feel too comfortable telling him what
to prescribe. I told him about the zithromax and he prescribed something
else. He is a good vet. He did not prescribe for the eye
Yes, uveitis is treated with topical steroids in the eye. Prednisolone
drops is what is usually used; sometimes atropine is used, I think for pain in
the eye. See Kerry's email about Bandy's course on these two eye drops (drops
can be easier to get in than ointment, too). I also needed
Hi Michelle
I will see if I can reach Junior's regular Vet tomorrow, she was at a
conference last Friday. There is less pain today, but it is still closed. I
just want him to fell better.
Thanks

Ok . Part of the confusion is my fault. Although I knew Junior's eye was
sore. I did not think the eye was hurting as much as it was until after I
had seen the vet. The antibiotic given I am sure is for the URI. Aspirin was
mentioned for its anti-inflammatory properties not as a pain killer. I do
When aspirin is given for blood clots, it is to thin the blood, which then
takes away the pain (by getting rid of the clot); it is not primarily for
pain. They also give small amounts of aspiring to lower fevers sometimes.
But
pain is usually treated with something else, like metacam,
I just found out that our sweet little Thor had to be helped over the bridge

So good to hear from you Patty. You have been in my prayers. I hope the
doctors get things squared away and get you at least much better than you are
right now. I can't believe all you've been doing with the cats while you're
still trying to recover! Good for you!
And of course I'm so

I'm sorry Sherry. Sounds like lymphoma.

You shouldn't feel personally responsible for the fact that YOU didn't know
the eye hurt until after the vet visit. The VET should have been able to
tell that though, it's his/her JOB! Then he/she should have prescribed an
appropriate medication for that pain before you left the office. It's not
Awww, cute, dipstick. My condolences go out to you and everyone at the
