[Felvtalk] More Official Types of Cats

2012-11-02 Thread Lee Evans
In the Calico-Tortoise Shell Cats Category you have

Torties - The true Tortoise Shell cat, mostly black and orange blended
Harlequin Tortie - face is half orange, half black in the same blend
Torbie - combination of tabby and Tortie, a Tortoise Shell cat with tabby
stripes
Dilute Tortie - Instead of black, grey and sort of pinkish orange(like Torties
that faded in the laundry)
Calico - white with large patches of orange and black, with or without stripes
Dilute Calico - white  with large patches of grey and pinkish orange (they look
like Calico cats that faded in the laundry.

Combining Cats With Furniture for the Best Effect

Calico cats and Tortoise Shell cats will go with most decors so if you have a
sofa that is white with black and orange cushions, you may adopt one of these.
However, if your decor is all white, I would recommend a white cat and all
black, a black cat. A really good conversation starter is created when you get
a black cat with a white sofa. People will comment on what a lovely zebra
striped sofa you have.

There is actually a Yahoo group devoted to Tortoise Shell Cats.  There's
probably one devoted to Calico Cats also.  If I didn't have to rescue cats
according to their need, I would have had two dozen Calico Cats. My first cat
was a kitten I named Tuffy. She was a true calico.  She was with me for 13 and
a half years. I still miss her.  She used to sit with me when I played the
piano, right next to me on the piano bench, even when I was just practicing.
Still love that cat.

Love your decorating suggestions! Ha!
But did you include my Miya-Chan? She's been referred to as a "brushed coat
Calico"...all colors, some stripes, but 'brushed' thru her coat rather than
appearing in distinct patches! She's purrr-dee!

Re: [Felvtalk] Cat in Ohio needs home - Types of cats

2012-11-02 Thread Lee Evans
This actually happened to me when I was answering our hotline for VOICE For
Animals.  A woman called asking if we could take an orange cat.  I asked her
why. What she said was that she had purchased a white sofa and the cat was
getting orange fur all over it.  She said she would be willing to take a white
cat in exchange.  She had had the orange cat for 2 years, had come into some
money recently and was buying new living room furniture.  I finally talked her
out of dumping her cat on us by telling her about the sticky roller product for
removing lint and hair from things.  I also told her that she should purchase a
multicolored  sofa cover to keep the sofa covered for general use and whisk off
the cover when company arrives. She was delighted with the ideas.  I should
write a book on how to color coordinate your rooms with your cats and dogs and
how to color coordinate your daily work outfits with a shedding pet.

Along those lines, here's a great idea for people who have too many cats and
don't want the Animal Control Officer to notice.  Exchange your cats with your
neighbors until you all have sets of cats of the same color.  You can take the
white cats, then paint your furniture and walls white.  The Officer will never
notice the cats since they will blend in with everything.  And you will go snow
blind. A friend of mine actually had 6 black cats in an apartment where they
only allowed 3 pets total. But with all the black cats, any time a cat sat at
the window, it looked like the same cat.  Cool, right?

Spay and Neuter your cats and dogs and your weird relatives and nasty neighbors
too!

I love the color exchange for cats! And the black cats sitting in the window! I
am amazed however that furniture can be more important to someone than the
little soul that they have spent the last 2 years with! My cats shredded my
new chair and when people say anything about it I just tell them "what can I
say? I like my cats a hell of a lot more than I like that stupid inanimate
object!"
Why is that hard to understand?

You could learn to reupholster furniture and then when one cover was shredded,
make a new one. That is what I am in the process of doing with a rocking chair
that Homey shredded. I have the frame stripped and am working on taking the
tape/braid off so I can remove the fabric. The tape is glued on and have to
use an iron to melt the glue to get it off. Good winter project! In the
mantime, if people do not like my shredded furniture, they can stay away so
they won't have to get upset. I agree with you, I like my cats more than the
stuff.
