Digby - Further Update
Thank you all for your words of encouragement - it really helps me to "stay focused" so to speak. The latest on Digby may or may not be good. His regular vet wanted to see him yesterday. His temp. was still elevated (40.5 C). I weighed him before we took him in, and since just this past Sun., he's lost 1.5 oz. His blood work numbers are: RBC - 5.1 (Range = 6.2 - 10.6) Hb - 81 (93 - 153) HCT (PCV) - 0.26 (0.28 - 0.49) Platelets - 31 (93 - 514) (The lab even checked to make sure there was no clot in sample tube.) Band Neutrophil Count - 0.91 (0.0 - 0.3) Immature Count - 0.26 (0.0 - 0.0) (This immature count refers to WBC's) Some other results that his vet was not overly concerned about were: Alkaline Phosphatase - 4 (Range = 16 - 113) ALT - 18 (31 - 105) Lipase - 94 (29 - 77) Apparently, because of his "Immature Count" and the Neutrophils, the lab is concerned about an actual leukemia. His vet is starting him on Doxycycline, because it could be Hemobart in the bone marrow. There's a possibility that he'll have to have a bone marrow aspirate which, of course, would mean putting him out briefly. The vet took another blood sample yesterday to check the Platelets, and it showed some new platelets, but they haven't completed the actual count yet. They're also sending a sample to the vet lab to check the Reticulocyte count. In the mean time, he had just started to turn his nose up at canned food, so the vet took him off the Clavamox for at least 24 hrs. Since that time, his appetite has improved somewhat, and he's been taking canned A/D with extra water in it. As his vet put it - let's hope it's Hemobart in the marrow, and not something else. She said she never thought she'd find herself "praying for Hemobart"! Hope all this makes sense - even though I have a medical background, I sometimes find it hard to "wrap my mind" around all the information I'm being given. Hangin' in, Marlene
Re: stitch
unfortunately stitch did not respond to the CCNU. it has been a little over 27 hours and he continues to worsen. the vet attempted to remove the fluid from his lungs again to help him breath...unfortunately for us the mass is solid and he has no fluid to remove. his breathing is so bad he has to mouth breath to get any air...i was think of bringing him back home for one more night for my own selfish reasons. after rethinking this i most likely will not. he has been in a nasty fight for a very long time...and now its time for him to rest. We did everything we could and and still lymphoma wins another battle. maybe someday people and animals alike will benefit from new technology and treatments.

Re: stitch
Oh Michael, I'm sorry Stich and you have lost your battle. I know how much you love him and I'm sure he appreciates everything you've done for him. If it wasn't for you, he would never have known the love and care that humans can provide. I understand your feelings in wanting to end his suffering and help him to cross, it's one last gift you can give him that we can't give our human loved ones. God bless you and comfort you in your grief. I am so sorry to hear about Stitch! My apologies if I'm butting in late in the conversation...unfortunately, I haven't been able to respond to many posts... :( But I just wanted to let you know that you guys are in my thoughts...not being able to breath is a scary way to go (I've witnessed one of my guys go, naturally, essentially as the result of suffocation due to anemia and I've opted to assist others because I just couldn't bear watching them get to that point). Bless your heart for caring so deeply for Stitch...please know that I will be thinking of you guys and sending out positive vibes for a peaceful passing, until you guys meet again... Re: Fwd: felv cat \needs placement
You might try posting in church's and also in the business college's. I have had a lot of response. I have a lady coming by tomorrow to fill out an application for Tom. She is going to Virigina College for Medical Billing coding. She knows about Felv and then my heart sank. I am not sure that I want to give Tom up. I have gotten so attached to him and he is so smart. I guess I will have to see how it goes. Here's a nice story for you
Hi Everyone, The day before yesterday I heard a racket from the birds outside that usually means one of my cats has a baby bird in their mouths. I went racing out to check and across the street two crows were taking turns pecking at a fledgling on the ground. I raced over there and rescued the baby, (man where those crows mad!). I told the crows I was sorry, I'm sure they were just trying to feed their own baby, but this wasn't going to happen on my watch. I've felt bad, (can you believe me?), about stealing their prey without having a way to give them something in return. I can't put out food for them, it's too dangerous for the little birds, my neg cats that go out during the day would have used the opportunity like a buffet! Well about a half hour ago, I was headed over to a neighbor's house to feed her yard ferals, (long story), and the crows were making a tremendous racket. I thought they might still be mad at me because they were really agitated. I glanced over into the yard next door and here's this baby crow on the lawn, I was afraid she was already dead, but when I hoped the fence to check it out, (my neighbors all think I'm nuts), she stirred and came to life. I put her in a small tree in my front yard and rounded up all the cats and got them inside. I can see her sitting in the tree as I type this. I haven't seen any adult crows approach her yet, but they must know she's there. She's so cute! I guess I've paid them back now! Say a little prayer she survives the night and however long it takes her to learn to fly properly. The danger is far from over for her, I feed ferals in my front yard. Got to go, she just tried to fly and is sitting in a heap at the foot of the tree! Nina
