Need home for FeLV kitten
hey, kerry, still looking for a kitten? hee hee. he's in michigan, at an ER clinic; has tested positive on the snap, and they've sent out bloods for an IFA. she'll get me photos tonight i gave her the link to post on the adoption page, but wanted folks to see it here, too also, the info for kittens from heaven in IA. they had given him an arbitrary final date of this wednesday, but she thinks that as long as they know folks are working on finding him a place, they won't stick to that (she works at the clinic) if someone IS interested, and there's a hold-up re: transport, i could put him in a condo cage here, but i'd hate to do that to a baby. -- Forwarded message -- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Oct 2, 2005 11:50 PM Subject: Fwd: Need home for kitten To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Who might be able to help this person? help needed in New Orleans
Date: Sun, 02 Oct 2005 10:44:44 -0400 From: Jane Garrison [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Help Jane!!! Hi everyone! This is Mark writing to you from Jane's email. I just spoke with her, and received an update on the activities in New Orleans. The state Vet has advised that they are no longer to accept anymore animals at the Lamar Dixon Expo center. To combat this recent decision, Jane has found another location. However, in the last hour, there is a problem with that center. Jane is desperate for a new location. A farm, barn, warehouse or other location that can be set up to house rescued animals. The rescue effort is not done! They are still rescuing about 100 animals from homes every day. The ones that they are finding dead, did not die from the hurricane, but are dead from starvation/dehydration. They've been found in carriers, and curled up on their people's beds. The clock is still ticking! So please, if you have a source for a location, please respond ASAP. As for help, they are still in need of people to come to New Orleans to perform various task. Yes they still need those who can rescue and feed, but they also need those who can do shelter work, administration work, check in animals, drive them to shelters, etc, etc. Lamar Dixon is still housing the volunteers, just not taking in any animals. Please go down ASAP. New volunteers are to meet at 9 pm between barns 12 for orientation/direction. They meet again at 5:30 am to get going and to be briefed on the days activities. Please contact me and I will get a message to Jane. Thanks for your help! Mark P.S. For those who have extensive email list/web sites, please post this as soon as you can. Thanks! P.S.S. The national groups have pulled out of New Orleans as per orders of the state vet, Jane is operating the rescue efforts on her own with the help of the volunteers. Please help! P.S.S.S. She just called me to advise that they need Vets as well.

Herpes virus in the eyes.
Hello list. I have been gone a long time. Since my baby c and nitro and phantom passed. But you guys are the smartest people I know. And I need your help. I have two kittens that have not been tested yet...they are katrina kittens. Whisper and willow They had rhino, chlamydia. ringworm earmites and both had very bad infection in the eyes. after weeks of treatment everything is healed but one eye. My vet has given up. But if I remember from back in the day...didn't we used to put the interferon in the eyes? Nitro...my felv siamese had it cured that way. but I am trying to think doesn't it have to be mixed a certain way Do most of you still buy it from island pharmacy? any help you can give this tired rescue lady I would appreciate it. I just want to make sure that I explore every option before removing the eye God Bless Karen
Re: Herpes virus in the eyes.
I think it was pamor Jamie this list knows more than most vets. I asked my vet and he looked at me with very strange lookshe is in shock they are aliveZithromax is my new best friend.
Re: Herpes virus in the eyes.
Dr. Glickstein, out of Philly, comes to Lancaster area and does pro bono for our shelter. He is a vet. opth. For our Felv+ and FIV+ guys who had a HORRIBLE time w/ the Herpes virus in the eyes, he Rx'd Zithromax and used that in conjunction w/ the intranasal/intraocular FVRCP. I am trying to remember the exact protocol, it's been awhile. I remember, initially administering intraocular drops, then cats went on "Z" SIDfor 28 days, then re-administered intraocular. I had the treatment charts on my PC, unfortunately, that got a "virus" and I still have not recovered my files... I just remembered it worked, and we used ONLY triple AB opth. drops W/OUT steroids BID. Sorry I can't be more help. Patti
Re: Herpes virus in the eyes.
NO patti that was a big help. At least I feel confident they are on the right antibiotics. they get lysine in the food too. Terri if you remember jamies or Pam's email address I would appreciate it . I will dig through the archives. must be 2000 or 2001. I am running out of time she seems like she is getting in more pain.
Re: Herpes virus in the eyes.
Yes, this was "Pre" Lysine days Now, Lysine is a regular part of the regiment, especially w/ the cats that seem to have "chronic" problems. Good Luck w/ your babies. Patti

For Lohna RE: Kittypoo
Title: Message I'm sure her immune system needs to be helped. Hello again Lohna, Re your comment above, one of our experienced members, Michelle, highly recommended Immuno regulin (IR) to me, when my Flavia began to succumb to nonregenerative anemia. Following is some info on IRit's a number of emails rolled into onethat I haven't yet had time to organise into one coherent report. But if youcan get past that, I thinkyou'll find it contains some very useful info and contact details. Good luck. Keep us posted on Kittypoo when you get time. Kerry IR INFO: Revival's tel no is 800 786 4751. (Revival is the supplier I used.) While I sadly did not order the Immuno regulin in time to be able to use it, the Revival people were good to deal with and the IR arrived at both vet clinics that I had it sent directly to when it was supposed to (ie overnighted by Fedex). I had never ordered it before and neither vet had ever used it but they were both very positive about doing so and liaised with me about the protocol/how much to use---it comes with directions in any case (although I haven't seen those because it's at the clinics). At least I now have it on hand should Mickey (or the NJ FeLV kitty I will be getting soon) need it. Here's also a copy of the relevant excerpts of what I emailed to Dr Dodin who was going to be administering the IR Dear Dr Dodin Here are the 3 articles that give background on Immunoregulin for FeLV cats. (It is given by IV.) I placed an order with Revival Animal Health this morning for 5ml of ImmunoregulinEqstim, and it will be shipped today, overnighted to Abell, marked for your attention, so should be there tomorrow (Wednesday). It will come in a "Polar" box, and will need refrigeration when it arrives. (They said a cat of 8lb is administered between 0.25 and 0.5 ml each time.) There appear to be 2 possible protocols--4 times in first 2 weeks, then once a week till stabilized, then monthly recommended thereafter for maintenance; OR once a week. Please let me know what you think is best for Flavia once you've had a chance to consider. THE ARTICLES: http://www.felineleukemia.org/ireginfo.html http://www.felineleukemia.org/opinion.html http://www.felineleukemia.org/hope.html This archived site is also worth looking at--an email from a web list member, Kyle, who had researched and used IR. http://www.mail-archive.com/felvtalk@felineleukemia.org/msg01946.html. I know of a 15 weeks old felv kitten who needs a home - the person who has him now is going to euthanize him if a new home cannot be found - he tested week positive and asymptomatic - his name is Marble - he is the cuttiest kitty I have ever seen - he has a sort of grey marble marking in his white body - very very affectionate! And playful and very good with other kitties!!! I don't want him to die I begged this lady not to PTS yet, but she might not wait for it for a long time - Please please someone give him a sweet home! He lives in Albuquerque, NM - Hideyo

Re: Herpes virus in the eyes.
If it's herpes they have to have viroptic. I think I remember someone putting interferon drops in the nose, but not the eyes? Either way, I don't think it will help without the viroptic t[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hello list.
