Well, the virus is very flimsy, as I understand it, the contagion is
not high (like a URI). It is generally supposed to be contagious
thru food and water, but I've mixed my felv+ and - cats for long
periods of time, with them sharing food dishes, and no problem. Hope
that's some comfort. Don't know if there's any research on that.

Hi

2005-11-06 Thread optionken

I want to thank you all again for the warm welcome the other day. Max is still holding on, eating and we get and start the immuno-regulin on Tuesday evening.. It's obvious he loves life and wants a chance and I'll do my best. Originally it was hard to find a vet and I though i would have to do it sub-Q but I finally convinced the vet that diagnosed him to try as there was nothing to lose.
I think I mentioned in my previous post that I have one who has been diabetic for 3 years. (Sneakers) Her life was saved by me learning how to care for her from a different very active board. (feline diabetes.com) Vets are not too sharp on treatingdiabetes or telling people what to do to treat it correctly so it was people like you who took it on their own to learn, research and teach others what to do. We have a very active board over there.
We are having beautiful days this weekend and I have allowed Max to go out under supervision so you can enjoy his time to the fullest. I hope I can give you all a good report soon and I hope your babies are doing well.

Yes, but will little Emily still have a face
left? Poor gal is a mess. This morning I used an oatmeal cat shampoo

the other cats. Both of my calicos have sensitive skin, Daisy with severe

There is a registered sex offender living across
the street from us and like you, we found it on the state list (IL for
me). I definitely tell my neighbors, they need to know in case they have
children or children visit. I just tell them I saw his name on the IL sex
offender list and they should be aware of that and I do not know any
details. Last year at Halloweenour little newspaper published a map
with starsin the general area the sex offenders live ... It was not
good as some were two blocks away from their actual homeand the newspaper
had many complaints. This year the list contained names and addresses on
the front page!

Re: Emilio/Frito -- fundraising idea?

2005-11-06 Thread berniluv
Crissy, in my opinion, Frito and Emilio should
stay in their home! I personally have 16 cats, 3
of whom are positive now and several others in
the past who have sadly lost the battle. All
share each others lives closely, and NO ONE has
ever caught this illness. Get your older cats
vaccinated; if Frito hasn't aleady caught the
virus, he very likely won't, and if he does,
well, then you have 2 cats with leukemia. I have
2 girls who came to me with it, at 9 and 4
months of age, and threw it off at 12/7 months
and are free at 13/5 years later. Never give
up!! Please reconsider letting ther babies stay.

Christmas cards! I've had at least 4 kitties

you see) and have left one vet because of his
attitude to it, so it's a VERY IMPORTANT cause
to me. I think cards are a GREAT idea!

Wendy, when I've given sub-q fluids, I took an

the needle under the skin with the bag hooked to

Re: risk of contagion Q

2005-11-06 Thread Kerry Roach
Hi all,
We have been out of touch for awhile so I hope everyones kitties are doing ok..
Bandy is FeLV and FIV + and has lived with my other kitties since 2001. After finding out that Bandy had all of this back in the summer, I had all my others tested. My 16 yr old is negative for both and he is Bandy's best buddy...they clean each other and all the rest..I have one other that was + for Felv but shows no signs of illness..so maybe the test was false/postive..I will have him re-checked again later. So I just keep them all together as I have...
It is a little scary though, but I don't know either...Like I said mine (4 that are together) are fine.. My 16 yr old hasn't been vacinnated in probably 10 yrs or so either for Felv.
Just wanted to share this with you..

Bandy's latest

2005-11-06 Thread Kerry Roach
Hi all,
Hope you are all doing well these days...I have been sort of out of touch the last month.
Just wanted to give you all an update on my Bandy..
His last vet visit wasa few weeks ago and his PCV was holding at 27. He has gained another 4oz. so he is up to 7# 2oz. which is almost his top weight...He is looking good and eating well.
We are on interferon alpha daily and 1/2cc baytril still...I don't know how long he will have to be on that as he has been on it for months now..
I am alternating supplements too..I just want to make sure he keeps eating good so I just rotate things around for now...I give him Co Q 10, bone meal powder, bovine colostrum, Vit.E 400 weekly, omega fatty acids (missing link version), and astragalus.
He went 2 weeks without the temp going up but then it jumped to 105.2 again so I give him .75mg of a dex pill.. then the temp will go back to normal...We still haven't figured out anything about that other than it is due to inflammation..He also gets a fill once daily for that which is for arthritis in cats...I still believe the fever is due to his previous leg injury in 2001 and has something to do with infection in the bone, but the vets don't know. I am going to try to get them to treat him as if he had a bone infection to see if that might not remedy the problem..
Any ideas on that would be appreciated...
My best to you all and your kittes,
Kerry and Bandy

Glad to hear the update on Bandy, it has been a while. It's good that he's
gained weight and looks good. His temp staying down for longer periods is also
good progress. You may be on to something with the idea of a deep inflammation
due to an old injury that flares up occasionally. I was scared to know when
