Mewey did well at the vet's today. The cut didn't have to be stitched
up-just cleaned up really well. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.

This seems kind of trivial but in light of the recent emails I'm a little
scared. Mewey, our FeLV little girl, who I accidentally cut while digging
out a mat, is getting the cut stitched up tomorrow morning under
anesthesia.

I would appreciate your good thoughts and prayers for her.

My prayers go out to all of you who are hurting and struggling. You don't
know how much good you have done-really. The amount of knowledge you all
have is amazing. All of your kittens are lucky to have spent any time
with
you, even if it was short. I really mean that. Please don't feel that
you

let them down because you didn't. Thank God they weren't with me!

I have had horrible experiences with Shadow Cats. They typically are only
going to take in animals if it gets them some kind of news coverage, or if
the cat is a tuxedo. The owner has a thing about tuxedo cats.

[Felvtalk] Whimsy update-acting normal today

2010-03-31 Thread Emeraldkittee
thanks for your compassion, Jenny. And to all those who wrote and care about
the well being of this beautiful baby.

Today, Whimsy was totally himself, and with a hearty appetitite, playing with
rocks (his favorite thing to do) so it leads me to believe it was some sort of
seizure or something besides dreaded poisoning. I have a call in to my vet.
Hopefully we'll be able to get some definite diagnosis soon.  I've never had an
FeLV so when I googled that and seizures, it appeared standard initially. This
would be a lot easier if he didn't have ringworm currently, and that was one of
the set backs in this whole saga (not too mention I started to try trapping him
last August).  He's so special.

thank you again to everyone who wrote and for caring for these angels.

Shannon,

I feel for your position.  There are many animals needing help and it is
overwhelming sometimes.

I must agree with the others that your best bet is to try to find help for
this little guy.  There is a large differential of diagnoses for him -
including: felv sequelae possibly an infectious or neoplastic process in the
brain causing seizure like activity; FIP; toxin ingestion; metabolic
disturbance; allergies; head injury; idiopathic seizure activity,
dermatopathologic disease; injury to paw or paw pads, etc.  Seizures - if an
underlying cause is not identified can be medically treated.  My two most
feared would be FIP and felv related.

Some of this things may be treatable.  Although his felv status imparts a
more negative prognosis, if an alternate and treatable cause is identified,
he may have a long life ahead of him.

If this is indeed related to felv he will probably stop eating and slowly
die (two to three weeks would be my guess, but this is highly
variable).   Does he still have an appetite?

In the end it is certainly your choice, but I think it would be worth trying
to identify the cause of his behavior.

Good luck on this one.

2010-03-31 Thread Heather
I thought Texas had some resources for FELV cats. Shadow Cats might be one
of them, I've heard great things about Shadow Cats just can't recall for
sure if they are one of the ones who helps FELV cats.

It would probably be a good idea to contact them as even if not, they may
have suggestions.

Good luck, how nice to see an HS helping a double positive kitty!!!

That is exactly what I thought when I just read this. I'd get him to a vet
or emergency vet ASAP, time is definitely of the essence with toxins.

Please keep us posted.
