Re: [Felvtalk] Interferon use?

2008-12-17 Thread Gloria B. Lane
There are different approaches to using oral interferon, which I
understand is produced naturally by the body. One theory I know of,
is that FELV kitties may be low in interferon and need daily
supplementation, not 7 on/off (or 3 on/off).

I think the on/off approach is because they think it encourages the
kitty to make his/her own interferon in the off days. Im not sure why
they choose 3 days or 7 days.

I have usually done ONLY the daily supplementation, although this fall
I've been missed a day every now and then. I also don't supplement
the older cats (my 2 that are over 10), just the younger ones (age 1-5)

Tally, who used to be on this list a number of years ago, has some web
pages on interferon - http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Pointe/9352/

Re: [Felvtalk] Interferon use?

2008-12-17 Thread gary
The 7 on - 7 off is because some cats develop and immunity or a reaction to
the interferon if given every day. Some people think this is too long to be
without the interferon so they use every 3 days and sometimes every other
day.

Hi Sidney
I have MeMe on interferon (we alternate days) and we have not had any
stomach problems.
Maybe you should hold off until you get General's stomach issues
resolved.

I hope your vet can help him recover quickly. Please keep us posted.
