You CAN find A/D online without a prescription but typically the added shipping cost makes the stuff prohibitively expensive. Generally you need a prescription for A/D food although it is usually easily acquired. You can get it at almost any vet clinic. Soy products (eg tofu) have a greater likelihood (than some other ingredients) of causing an allergic reaction. AD should have an expiration date on the can. I keep both AD and Low residue on hand (Low residue works to get Frankie back on track when he has fudgy stools). Another thought: Compare the A/D ingredients and purpose with some of the better OTC foods. A/D has been such a standby that other foods are often ignored. This is a judgment call. Great idea to keep A/D on handwe can buy at the emergency vet but it is $4.00 A CAN!If you can get a prescription from your vet you can buy at Petsmart, as long as there is a Banfield in there. They will give you a card and you can buy it at the regular checkout counter. I always keep a few cans on handbut I haven't checked for expiration dates on them...didn't even think about it. I would call the 800 number for Science Diet and ask them! I just called Hills and he said there is a best before date in red on the bottom of each can.
