It is so great to have such a wonderful person and doctor available who cares so much and takes the time to explain things. The only thing I can't figure out is why he keeps that other vet in his practice. This morning Buzz was still pretty tired but he ate a lot of the tuna I mixed up for him with the multi-vitamin in it. My mother-in-law lives with us and she will continue to offer him food every couple of hours until I get home from work to spoil him. Every evening we have been going out on the deck where I cuddle him and give him Reiki treatments. Sue, I am so happy that this vet is much more open to helping Buzz and knowlegeable! That is so, so valuable, not only to help Buzz, but to keep your hope alive as well. Sue, I am so glad you had a good meeting with Dr. Tom. Now you have an idea what your options are. You might want to consider adding some folic acid to the vitamins you are giving Buzz. My positives get 200 mcg 2x/day as a precaution since their HCT was low normal on their last blood work. You can check with several local pharmacies to compare costs on the Epogen. Folks on the Anemia board have found a wide range of prices. Typically epogen shots are given 3x/wk initially and then gradually adjusted to once every 7 to 10 days as his HCT gets up to the normal range. You do have to have his blood pressure checked regularly as epogen can cause an increase in BP.
