I've been feeding Bacardi Evolve . It's all natural and our practice
promotes it all the time. I also started Pet Tinic as soon as the snap test
started coming up positive. We've already gone through URI and
conjuctivitis. As for tazzy, the first grew so rapidly that by the time we
biopsied it it couldnt have been amputated. The day a had the surgery set
for we found a spot on his lung and in his abdomen on an x-ray. Out Felu
vaccines go as low as we can get them in the left leg, but Tazzy already had
a vaccine when they got him from a pet store when i was 8 years old. I
jusst hope everything turns out ok. Bacardi seems happy and loves to come to
work with me in morning. He hops in my purse all the time at least i
dont have to fight with him to go to the vet. i'm actually looking for a
new vet other than the one i work at, since they seem not to care as much as
they should with one of their employee's pets. Everything i know about this
is my own research. than-you so much for your time.

First off, feed the very best food you can afford, diet is the main factor
you can control in FELV. I prefer Innova or California natural, myself, but
other premiums food are just as good, look in our archives for suggestions
on diet and supplementation. Next keep him a stress free as you can, stress
triggers the symptomatic form of the virus, they can go a long time with no
symptoms if kept stress free and healthy. Here is the treatment page:
http://www.felineleukemia.org/treatmnt.html

I'm concerned that your cat died of VAS, as you being a vet tech should
have caught it early enough for full amputation of the rear limb to remove
the cancer. Please reassure me that your cats are NOT getting vaccinated in
the neck scruff or between the shoulders. Vaccines should always be given
as low as possible on the legs, in case a sarcoma results, the limb can be
removed. If your vet is vaccinating incorrectly, I'd suggest finding a
different vet, one that is up to date on the current vaccine protocol
standards.

Hi Abby,

I'm sorry to hear about your kitten's diagnosis, but
this is the place for you to be for now. How old is
Bacardi (I'm assuming that's her name from the subject
line, but I wasn't sure whether it was that or if you
were just drinking a lot of Bacardi after getting her
diagnosis-hehe)? She may still throw off the virus.
I would immediately get her on a good diet, like
Innova Evo (slowly mixing it in with her old) and
start giving her Lysine, Vitamin C, and Interferon.
Others will give you good info. also. FeLV is not a
death sentence and there are many kitties that live a
long time with it. There are also others that do not
live long, and we have found that a good diet, good
supplements, and a stress-free environment are the
best things you can do for your FeLV kitten to combat
this. You may want to retest her in 3-6 months to see
if she throws off the virus. I also have a sick
kitty/general kitty care manual that I can email as an
attachment directly to you if you'd like. Just let me
know. You might be able to use it at work as well. I
gave it to my vet. If you have any further questions,
please ask away! Welcome to the group!

Hello Abby,I joined this list for support because my kitten Pippin tested a faint positive on her first FeLV test back in June when she was seven weeks old. This is my first experience with FeLV. Being on this list helps me cope. How old is Bacardi? Does he have any symptoms? You must be going through a lot of grief all at once over your other cat and now Bacardi. My thoughts are with you. There are experienced people on this list who have a lot of information and wisdom to share. There isn't as much email on the weekends. If you need someone to just talk with, I am here.Take care,GinaAbby Specht [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: My kitten has been diagnosed with Felv. Hi. You will get lots of good advice here. But most of all, try to keep
Bacardi as stress-free as possible. It seems like stress often triggers the
leukemia virus to wreak havoc. And you will want to put him on a good
quality food and some immune supplements, like lysine. Some people say that
MegaC plus vitamins have helped kittens and cats who were fighting off the virus
to throw it off (some kittens test positive and then a few months later test
negative, because some throw it off). Some people give Interferon orally
every day, though the jury is out on how much it helps other than for oral
problems.

Many FeLV+ kittens die before 2 years old. But many don't as well. I
currently have a 5 year old and a 6 year old, and lost one in February who was
7. I have also lost positives at 5, 3, and 18 months. A few people on this
list have positive cats who are over ten, and some have died at around 10.
So definitely do not assume it is a death sentence. Just try to keep Bacardi as
happy and stress-free as possible. If he gets anything that positives are prone
to, like a URI or anemia, there are treatments that we have worked out and can
share with you.

But right now it sounds like the biggest issueis that you are
stressed, and that you are grieving. For now, if Bacardi isasymptomatic,
just try to love him and enjoy life withhim a little, and get him onto
some healthy food (some of us do raw diets, but there are good prepared foods
too like Innova's EVO, Eagle Pack, Wellness, California Natural, and Wysong) and
supplements.

I am really sorry about your loss of your other cat. We have all been
through that a lot on this list.
