Wendy,

I'm so sorry to hear that Cricket is not going to make it. It sounds like you've made the best decision for her. I hope things went peacefully.

take care of yourself now. I know how much you are going to miss your baby.

I'm so very sorry, Wendy.

Flavia was given a sedative first. (Levi was not given one, to my
knowledge, and his pts haunts me to this day.) I believe the sedative
helped enormously, as did the compassion of the vet. I can't stress the
demeanor of the vet enough---that is so important, in conjunction with
the sedative---I've had a truly compassionate and kind vet do the pts
and I've had ho-hum vets.

And of course making the trip as stress-free as possible. And a quiet
room when you get there. Familiar toys and smells in the carrier. And
hardest of all, your calmness. Do you have a close, empathetic friend
who can go with you? Or be waiting for you afterwards?

I'll be thinking of you and Cricket. And wishing the little soul a
peaceful passing. I'm glad he knows what it is to be truly loved and
cared for.

much love and hugs to you and Cricket, Kerry

Wendy,
Is it possible to have the vet come to your house? That alone would
make it much less stressful.

Also just curious, how long has Cricket been on baby food, this is not a
substitute for cat food, it doesn't have the vitimin requirements a cat
needs? Also how much food are you actually getting into Cricket, a
teaspoon here and there is not enough and Cricket will die from lack of
food if that is the case. When syringe feeding a cat that isn't eating
you have to get atleast 180 to 200 ccs of food into them daily if you
don't they are at risk of developing Fatty Liver Disease and this will
kill them.

If Cricket isn't getting very much food it will make weaker and sicker,
the weaker and sicker he gets, the less he will want to eat, it is a
vicous cycle and food is the ONLY way to stop it.

I've been going throught the archives and it looks like Cricket has been
getting small amounts of baby food for quite a while, this will not
sustain him, he needs real food in real amounts, it is a bit of work to
syringe that much food but it could save his life if it isn't too late.

There is a Assisted Feeding group that can help and support you in this,
you can find them here:

No cat can recover from anything if they are not getting enough food.

Re: Cricket's Time

2005-11-09 Thread felv
The main issue is to make sure your vet gives euthasol in the vein. Some vet's
give
Euthasol (euthasol is pink) or a blue solution in the stomach, and this takes
longer
to act unless the cat is VERY ill. The blue kind seemed to take even longer to
act,
and I will specifically request the PINK euthasol from now on. I have had both
forms
of euthanasia done, and I prefer the euthasol via IV. It works in 3 to 10
seconds,
whereas the other euthanasia solution given in the stomach take 30 seconds to a
minute (which seems like an eternity when you are holding them and saying
goodbye). I
have never had a vet offer or give a sedative before euthanasia, in fact, I had
never
even heard of that until joining this list. All except ONE of the animals I had
put
down went very peacefully. The one that went bad was a VET mistake, she missed
the
vein and injected it Sub-Q. It was VERY nasty and heart-breaking, the dog cried
and
thrashed around for a full 2 or 3 minutes in agony (this was the same vet that
told
me ringer's solution given sub-q would slough the skin off). God, I hope she's
not
still in business! Anyways.. back to the topic. Just make sure you have a good
vet
and it goes in IV.

I'm so sorry to hear that it's Cricket's time. I hope his euthanasia is
peaceful and
painless. The fact that you are researching it shows how much you care, and I'm
sure
he appreciates it.
