Melissa,
That is a great idea! I always notice those spools
and try to think what they might be good for... Once
as a kid , okay, as a hippe, one of my first apts,
they worked for tables, but I'm more worldly now, or
at least I have a real table.
But , YES! A cat structure seems perfect. You could
do a lot with them and some carpet and imagination,
like little cat compartments for napping cats, using
the bigger spools. I will be thinking about this...
My son will probably have a fit. Mom is collecting
more junk... but oh well...(He attempts to keep me in
line...)
Thanks, Glenda

RE: My new "pimp daddy" cat trees

2007-09-10 Thread Melissa Lind
Pet trees are so expensive-but yours sounds actually worth it. Some are so
overpriced for the crappy materials that are used. We've been meaning to
build a cat play house, but haven't yet.

One thing we do is to take old spools that electrical wire was on, or
welding wire (from local companies), and cover them in scrap carpet. Our
cats love it, and the spools aren't too big for our living room. They're
about chair-height, and the cats just love ripping into them. They can also
sit on top (carpet covers the hole), and play "king of the spool" while
swatting each other on and off! Such fun!

Last spring we had a table @ the Austin cat show as usual, and while there,
I purchased a new cat tree for a great price.

$225. sounds high, but this thing was hand made, very well hand made.

Very heavy base ( I could not even drag this thing) w/ 3 perches, 2 that
were semi circle & wrapped w/ a material that prevents kitty from falling
off while slumbering.

Like a "lip" kinda thing.

The 4 posts holding up the tree are all wrapped w/ sisal.

Anyway, I choose the black carpet w/ "faux" leopard carpet (had no idea THAT
idea could be found) that wrap the perches.

Kitties LOVE it.

They LOVE it s much, they found the man's business card in my wallet and
ordered 2 more.

Only he is out of black carpet so what does he use instead?

Purple

Royal purple w/ leopard fur trim..

Just like a cat to pick THAT combination...

I am going to have to watch their spending habits more closely
