Re: Prayers for Allie

2006-05-13 Thread Kerry Roach
Hi, My Bandy has been spiking a temp now since last June...all the way up to 106..at first we were giving him dex injections weekly, but now I give him 1/2 of a .75mg dex pill and the temp will go down in a matter of 3 to 6 hrs..The dex injections were too strong and could cause diabetes so we decided to put him on a smaller dose of pills...He has gone as long as 2 wks without a temp...but usually it only stays down a week or 8 days...I can tell without even taking it anymore when it spikes...his head always gets really hot and his shoulders...I was advised against the metcam for long term, something to do with stomach irritation...anyway, we never have used it...I would suggest the dex pills and see how your kitty responds...My vets say it is due to inflammation because he is FIV and Felv+...I do know when Bandy gets the dex pills, he is like a new kitty again...and so far it hasn't failed us...I have been using the pills since last Sept...and I think he
has only had 2 or 3 dex injections since then as usually we were at the vet when it was up and I got them to go ahead with the injection since they have been so far apart... Hope this helps, Kerry and Bandy

Jen,

Equistim is the same thing as ImmunoRegulin; Equistim
is the generic. If your vet can't get it, you can
order it online and have it shipped fast for about $50
including shipping (it might be less; I can't
remember). I ordered Cricket's through Revival Animal

Please don't give up hope on Allie. Smokey's fevers
got as high as 107. Ask your vet about the equistim.
So far it really has helped Smokey to not get anymore
fevers. I was having to take him to the vet every 2
to 3 days for a fever. Now I just give him the
equistim injections at home.

I am sorry Allie is having such a hard time. My cat
Smokey was having these fevers every 2 to 3 days. I
changed vets and the new vet is having me give Smokey
injections of equistim twice a week. I know so far
for Smokey he hasn't had anymore fevers since. I do
give them to him subq. I hope Allie starts feeling
better soon.

Jen,

Don't give up hope! This virus is as unpredictable as
it is heartbreaking, and your kitty could turn around
in no time at all. It's ok to prepare for the worst,
but don't expect it. I will definitely keep Allie in
my prayers. Just love her as much as you can, spoil
her rotten, and also, take pictures so if she does
cross the bridge, you will have visible memories of
her to hold on to in the tough times. Keep your chin
up and stay positive for Allie!

Jennifer,
I'm sorry you and Allie are having such a hard time.  I know there have
been several cats that seemed to benefit from IR, it may be worth a try
at this point.  Someone remind me, did Kerry R use this for her kitty
with the spiking temps?  When I first heard about IR, I had heard that
it had to be administered IV, then someone posted to the list about
using it subq, (forgive me, my mind seems to be mush tonight and I
can't remember the specifics).  I'm praying for you and Allie's quick
recovery.  Let us know what's going on,

Re: Prayers for Allie

2006-05-11 Thread Marylyn

Calm yourself and let her guide you.  You must
ask her what she wants and you must ask her to tell you when she wants it.
She will if you can listen (that is the hard part).  She may need
permission to make choices.  Calm yourself and be very gentle with yourself
and with Allie.  Enjoy every minute--no, every second with her.  She
is a precious soul.

  Subject: Prayers for Allie
Allie was back at the vet today with 105 fever- came down to
102.5 with Metacam (kitty NSAID) and sq fluids.  I did get the vet to
show me how to give the sq fluids, so I can administer them now if she stops
eating and drinking and looks dehydrated, or if her temp goes up (I've been
monitoring her temp daily).  They were also thinking of giving me some
Metacam to administer at home, but decided to hold off on that.
This is her 3rd temp spike in 2 weeks.  The vet was prepping me for the
fact that at some point Allie's body is not going to be able to tolerate these
temps anymore and is not going to fight them off even with treatments because
the fevers are causing such a stress on her system.  Of course we don't
know if that will be a week or a month, but it looks like it may be sooner
than I thought.  It's so hard because 2 days ago she was totally back to
herself- eating great, playing, and she even sleep with us!  I guess the
calm before the storm...  Keep her in your thoughts.  I don't want
her to suffer, but I'm not ready to say good-bye yet either!  I'm still
hoping she can beat these fevers, but that's not looking realistic anymore and
I don't want to torture her...
