No advice, but I'm so sorry. I would not get her another rabies shot.  Keep us
posted.

do they have same kind of vaccine for rabies, etc?
my newest felv pos kitty (NitNoy) has had a reaction to rabies vac.  dr. not
sure if it is sarcoma or not.  at present we are waiting a fe days to see if it
grows or not.  if it does, will have to remove soon before have to take whole
leg.  ANYONE HAVE ANY ADVICE ON THIS?  dorlis  she is about 1 - 1-1/2 yrs old,
semi feral.  she also has an attitude problem - charges everyone and gets
downright nasty.  she had her tail amputated by a raccoon (at least we think so
from her reaction on seeing them).  i found her tail in the yard a week later.
my other problem is Annie and CAsey - they hate each other.  Felway and Bach's
don't seem to do any good.  dorlis

Re: [Felvtalk] PUREVAX FELV vaccine

2009-07-02 Thread MaryChristine
it is definitely considered the safest on the basis of its delivery
system--has no adjuvant, which is still (i think) considered the main
culprit in injection-site sarcomas.

purevax vaccines are more expensive than others, but also do have a very
good reputation. but that doesn't necessarily mean anything, so i'll do some
searches: remember that vets don't have much more pharmaceutical education
than do human docs, so unfortunately get more of their information from drug
company detail people, NOT an unbiased source at all.

i vaguely recall, however, that there was a study a year or two back that
compared the efficacy of the various FeLV vaccines? am i just being
delusional? anyone? (please just answer re: vaccines, thank you.)

I have not, but Purevax rabies vaccine is widely believed to be both the
best vaccine and the least likely to cause VAS. It is also more expensive,
and not all vet clinics carry it.
