[Finale] Playback Bugs
[Finale 2009] A couple of weeks ago I asked about a problem with Finale failing while human playback is on. I got no response to that, but I am now encountering several problems with playback, including one I used to have with an older version of Finale. Following is a list of the various problems. 1) With human playback switched on, Finale will only work playing back from the beginning of the file. Set the playback to left-most measure or a specified bar number causes Finale to collapse in a heap. 2) The above problem is now also happening when human playback is switched off. 3) A problem I encountered with an earlier version of Finale (and never really fixed): playback is intermittent, some bars play, some do not; some parts in some bars play, others do not; some parts in some bars play some of the time (i.e. notes are truncated). This consistently happens in the same place. I copied the offending section to a new file - the playback error still occurs. When this happened in v2002 once the playback stopped, it did not come back in again. In v2009 the playback comes and goes. My only guess is that I may not have enough RAM (2GB). Can anyone confirm this or suggest other causes? Michael Lawlor ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

Can anyone confirm this or suggest other causes? I think that you might need to provide some more clues, such as which playback method are you using (i.e. soundcard synth, external midi module, SmartMusic soundfont, GPO or other VSt playback), what sort of score you're working on and how complex the music is, how many different staves are set to the same midi channel or soft-synth patch. Do you get the same errors no matter which playback method you use? Are you on a Windows PC or a Mac? Along with the potential for a problem due to ram (although on a PC with 2GB you should be alright, depending on what other apps are running in the background), the specs of the processor you're using and the OS you're using can have an effect as well. -- David H. [Finale] FinWin 2010 Freeze
Hi all, I was just about to send this when I found a partial but unsatisfactory solution. Finale 2010 will NOT run on my second monitor. My default monitor for Finale is the second monitor, running on a GeForce 9400 GT in portrait mode. It will run on the main monitor just fine, but moving it to the second monitor causes it to freeze. Any solution for that? :) Dennis Message I was about to send, in case anybody else has this experience: Hi all, Figured I'd start here rather than the morass of support. Finale 2010, Windows XP Pro SP3, all patches, Intel Core2 Duo 3GHz, 2GB memory, dual monitor, sound external (USB) Focusrite Saffire Pro 40. Upon running Finale, it opens the splash screen. I can close it, change my arrangement of tools, change preferences, etc. I can close and re-open the program and the new preferences are in place. Finale is registered (yes, it could do that, too). But when I open any document including the default document (whether preferences are set to scroll view or page view), the program freezes. The mouse cursor over Finale disappears. If I switch to another program and back, the menu bar is gone (white) and the cursor then appears as an hourglass. At this point it looks like a typical hung application, and CPU dedicated to Finale is between 48-52% and issuing a constant stream of page faults (6 per second). In case it was a slow first run, I have waited about a half hour with no change. I have also reinstalled Finale and the Garritan instruments. That's it. I have to force the program closed. Anybody else see this and get it running? Thanks, Dennis ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale
Re: [Finale] FinWin 2010 Freeze
And so, a false alarm. Finale works with the latest Nvidia drivers (196.21, 1/19/10) but froze with the earlier ones (195.62 11/26/09). Now you've solved my problem with 2009. Remember, last summer, when I had such hoge difficulties with that Mendelssohn project? Since then I had to update my drivers (for another reason). I just opened my current project with 2009, and lo and behold, it works! Then I tried my Mendelssohn project, hoping that would work too, but alas, it wouldn't. Is was still incredibly slow. So I guess that file has gotten corrupt somehow. Still, I won't be using 2009 because of the staff list number limitation... ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

Thanks so much for publishing the solution. Dick On Mar 1, 2010, at 9:10 AM, Dennis Bathory-Kitsz wrote: And so, a false alarm. [Finale] Finale2010-to-Garritan percussion help/tutorial?
Is there a tutorial for Finale 2010 mapping to Garritan percussion? None of my old maps seem to work. The Garritan instrument never changes (from whatever is visually shown as if it were treble clef), and when I try to re-enter the measures using Speedy, the program crashes.
