[Finale] Export to MP3 in Finale 2011? and clef question.

2010-10-26 Thread Andrew Levin
Hello, all,

I finally bit the bullet and upgraded Finale 2011 from 2009. Pardon me if
you've already covered this, but I can't find an export to MP3 option. I'm
perfectly capable of converting an AIFF or WAV file to MP3, but I'd like the
convenience of one-stop shopping with this feature. The Finale website notes
MP3 capability, but only available with SmartMusic Sound Font only. What
does this mean?

Arrggh!

While I'm at it let me also ask another question: is it possible with Finale
2011 to place a clef *after* a barline, but before a forced time and key
signature? I need this for theory assignments and exams. Thanks!

Andrew

It means exactly what it says. If you use AU/VST instruments (for example,
Garritan instruments) for playback, you can'd save directly to MP3. You have to
save to AIFF or WAV first, then convert afterwards.

Finale has always worked this way -- you've never been able to save directly to
MP3 when using AU/VST instruments.

[Finale] capo chords

2010-10-26 Thread Greg Scheer
I was pleased to see that Finale 2011 finally has an accessible capo chord
option, as I've never been able to figure out how to do this before. But I was
not pleased when I found out that a G/B chord was shown as a D/Gb when capoed
at the fifth fret. These enharmonic spellings are scattered throughout the
piece, and I can find no way of editing the capo chord. Does anyone have any
experience with this?

[Finale] TG tools and Fin2011

2010-10-26 Thread David Froom
Does anyone know about the full TG Tools for FinMac (or Win) 2011?
Tobias usually has something for us by now.

Has anyone gotten any part of the full TG Tools (not the free Finale-
supplied ones) to work in any way with 2011?

I forgot how much I've come to rely on them -- especially in the midst
of an orchestral project.

Hoping against hope for something soon...

Thanks,

David

{Spam} Re: [Finale] TG tools and Fin2011

2010-10-26 Thread Chuck Israels
Hi David,

Tobias updated these for 2011 some time ago (after a little nagging on my
part). I use a few of them and would find linked parts to be a burden rather
than a help without the use of Transfer Layout.

(Best regards from our new location, [and my retirement from WWU] in Portland.)

[Finale] {Spam} Slurs and articulations

2010-10-26 Thread Steven Larsen
I'm having trouble when I apply slurs to notes with articulations (staccato,
accents, etc.). The slur attaches to the notehead, and I'd like it to float
about (or below, as the case may be) the articulation. It's a royal pain to
have to manually adjust every slur.

I'm using version 2011 for Windows.

Not in Finale right now, so I am foggy on specifics but, in each articulation
dialog, there is a check box for having the articulation appear inside slurs.
Certain articulations appear inside by convention (staccatos and tenutos),
others - like accents, do not and must be adjusted by hand (as far as I know).

Re: [Finale] {Spam} Slurs and articulations

2010-10-26 Thread James Cooper
This is something slowing me down on an orchestra score I'm working on. (I'm
in Win 2011a)

It looks like when I go the Articulation Designer window for an
articulation, there is an option in the lower left corner inside slurs.
This works fine to have it checked for for staccato dots tenuto accents
(inside the slur per Ross). However, for the () accents Ross says
sometimes inside the slur, and sometimes outside. But what seems to me
happens with those accents is, if I check inside slurs, it affects all of
them in the piece, so I end up having to adjust all the slurs where I want
the accent outside (or vice versa).

Has anyone one found a better way of handing these?

You need to copy the original and create a second one with the inside-
slur setting, and then use the one or the other according to context.

2010-10-26 Thread James Cooper
That helps (David) - thanks.

I have to experiment more, but was having problems with collisions between
the accents slurs in this one section. I wonder if some of that was
caused by the fact I put them in the 1st violins, then copied to the rest of
the strings. I wonder if they would have come out better if I had just
entered (the slurs at least) individually (The passage wasn't so long that
the extra time would have been all that bad.)
