Hi, Ray,

Thanks for writing.

It’s not just emailing that’s the problem, but emailing through Clemson’s
particular flavor of Exchange or Office365 that puts up red flags. Our IT
people are going to bat for me — we’ll see what happens.

You could also look at the Metronome Font by DVM Publications
(DVMPublications.com)
I¹ve been using it for years (along with their very useful MetTimes font)
to put symbols, rhythms, etc. in Word documents.
Regardless of the font you use, you might consider creating keystroke
collections (e.g. Snippets in TextExpander) so you can
type in the musical symbols as text using convenient-to-remember patterns,
without having to remember unusual key mappings.
This saves me a ton of time and looks great,

I want to include time signatures in a Word document, preferably with
one number directly above the other, rather than making it look like a
fraction. I have tried superscripts and subscripts, but something
resembling real music notation would be better. Also, I do not just
want regular time signatures, I also want to include 3/1, 6/2... Does
anyone have any advice to provide on the easiest way to do this?

This music fonts list includes two sections with suggestions of more
than 70 fonts for musical symbols in a word document (

combined with letters ( https://elbsound.studio/music-fonts.php#textmusic ).

I guess the only way is to apply a Staff Style without barlines to the measures
you want the barlines between them; then use Expression Tool to place the
barlines as Shapes outside and between the staves.

OH MY GOD! please do NOT do this if you want the barlines between staves
globally! there is a barline style in finale since (ouf...?) at least 10 years.
select your group bracket and open the dialogue, set "Barlines" to "Only
Between Staves (Mensurstriche)"

if you insist on making only some barlines in a given system like that (i have
in fact needed to in the past), set it up as a shape expression with the
desired length and thickness. apply manually each time, not using a metatool,
otherwise you will have to change every instance if you want them to be thicker
or longer globally.

barbara, if mensurstriche is *not* what you want, can you share a page of what
you are working on?

cheers,
jef

You could use the fonts "Times musical roman" or "Bach", which don't affect the
line spacing as does "Maestro", and include a number of time signatures.

Hi,

Am curious why you want to do this at all? Am certainly no expert, but I
cannot think of any "best practices" that would suggest this sort of staff
change.
If you share what it is you need the players to do, then perhaps there will be
some suggestions forthcoming that will do
what you need, player wise, but in a more conventional way.

thanks for telling us.

I hope you really need this feature, because I have found a time consuming
manual workaround. I haven‘t done all the necessary adjustments, only proven
the principle in a trio for horns that I am editing. The screen shot from
Finale is here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/52jjkhys6kvini4/Barlines%20between%20staves.png?dl=0

You have to set the line thickness in the Smart Shapes tool (Smart Shape
options( to the same as the thickness of your barlines (document options).
Choose the line option in Smart Shapes that can be drawn vertically. Draw it
between two staves next to a barline. It will default to the closest beat, but
you can drad it on top of the barline between the staves.
In the selection tool click the bar before the barline and make the original
barline invisible.

2017-04-16 Thread Christopher Smith
I just tried it in Finale v25, and you’re right, any group you add applies to
the whole system, never to a partial system. Even though I applied it to ONLY
measures 1 through 3, ALL the measures in the first system got their barlines
extended between staves. At least it was only the system!

So I used jef chippewa’s suggestion, and after I made all the barlines in one
system connect, I broke some of them using a staff style. That worked
perfectly. That is what I suggest.

Strangely, I can force barlines to break, but not to appear by using a staff
style. Strange.

Here’s a screen shot after I applied the new group to system 1.
