Well, what font are you using for lyrics? Try temporarily setting it to Times
New Roman and see if the hyphens suddenly appear after you update layout.

Re: [Finale] the eternal lyric bugs

2017-04-22 Thread Christopher Smith
Retyping them won’t help. Finale eliminates the hyphen when it judges the
spacing to be too tight to let it be legible. Opening up a bit of space might
help, or using a slightly more compact lyric font. Or maybe your lyric font
doesn’t have a FAN, so Finale thinks all the characters are super-wide? That’s
just a thought.

Harold,

Don't know what's going on with Finale, but I do know that there is an
auto-hyphenating website where you can copy in your lyric and it does a
reasonable job of hyphenation.

I'll send the URL when I am back at my computer.

Re: [Finale] Tempo mark failure - total

2017-04-22 Thread Douglas Brown

Hello, Ray.

The first thing I do is check if the "Match playback to metronome marking text"
box is either checked or unchecked as I need it on all of my tempo marks, or if
I'm forcing a different tempo, that it matches up. Sometimes several close
tempo change markings overlap in my piece and I have to force it with the
special Tempo Tool. If I don't want to do that (which I often don't), the next
thing works for me practically every time:

Move all of the entries out of the offending measure, delete that measure,
insert a new measure stack, and replace the info that you copied to elsewhere.
Do not copy the entire stack in one move -- select only some of the staves in
two separate moves, if necessary, ust so that it isn't a whole-stack move.
Once everything is back in place, insert any stack commands (tempo changes,
etc.) that you need.

Of course, if this doesn't work, there's always the ol'
create-an-entirely-new-file-and copy-staves-in-a-non-stack-manner trick.

Douglas Brown

For various reasons, I run several different Finale versions on my Windows
10 machine. Finale 2011, 2014, and 25. Currently, I can't get any of them
to respond to tempo changes within a piece, whether I add an expression,
put the tempo in the playback window, or anything. Any advice will be
helpful, thank you!

When was the last time you did a full reboot of your computer? If
that's not working in any version of Finale I suspect it's a computer
problem and not a Finale problem.
