Re: [Finale] Finale 2006-2012-2014 for Windows - Chord suffix selection - options buttons not present
You're right! Why has it to be so intricated the way too get that complete window? I could remember I ran into that trick many years ago but completely forgotten it. Many thanks Christopher Il 19/09/2018 14.40, Christopher Smith ha scritto: I know what’s going on. There are TWO different dialogue boxes called “Chord Suffix Selection”. One has the edit and create buttons; the other doesn’t. This IS a stupid thing, because I often want the create buttons when the one that lacks them is open, and I’ve complained about this for about a decade, but they aren’t interested in changing it. To get to the one that HAS the edit buttons, enter a chord in your score, any chord. Make sure it’s selected in the Chord Tool (drag around it if you can’t see the tiny little handle) and hit Enter. The Chord Definition dialogue box opens. Click the button Show Advanced in the top right (if it isn’t already clicked) to open up more options (Finale will remember this setting so you don’t have to click it every time). Almost at the very bottom, click Suffix ID> Select. NOW you get the right dialogue box! Once you are done, please open up a tech support ticket at MakeMusic to complain about this, because they will change it if they get enough complaints. [Finale] What is the fair price for acappella (SSATB) arrangements?
I've made some arrangements for acappella vocal groups. A quintet in my country asked me for some of them. I sent one for free, they liked it and asked me for more, so I think to ask them a sum (PDF copies only, no hard copies). What is a medium/fair price for a SSATB arrangement (up to 6 pages each, up to 3 minutes of duration)? Re: [Finale] Backward Slur
You're right, I got he wanted to make a backward tie (because this is my own nightmare, lately) Il 09/04/2014 13:46, Christopher Smith ha scritto: That's a tie. For a slur, attach it as a Smart Shape as usual, then drag the right end backwards. In fact, I have sometimes used slurs when I couldn't get the backwards tie to work, because they look pretty much alike, depending on your settings. Apparently, the second-ending tie end is made with opt = on my Mac (would that be alt = on Windows?) But it only works if there are notes in the FIRST ending, last measure, which is not always the case. It also only works when there IS a second ending, so you can't get it to work on say, the first measure of a coda. A kludge I have used before is to put in a normal forward tie, then use the Special Tool to drag the right end backwards, just like I did with a slur. This can get complicated if the note is also tied for the next several notes, as I have to keep repeating the procedure until I get to the last tied note. And, if they have the volume turned up on their keyboard, the keyboard still sounds a C. I understand why you want the feature you do and I think Finale should support it, but it should definitely not be the default, and the current behavior is not a bug. Meanwhile, it doesn't really seem like that big a deal to me to enter the music with Display Score in Concert Pitch turned on, then flip to transposed pitch after the note entry is finished. I don't have to transpose the instruments in my head to hear their tone qualities as I write -- it is just second nature for me to know what the range of each instrument sounds like in concert pitch as well as transposed pitch. But of course, that's the way I learned, so I'm sure it comes more naturally to me than it does to others. Cheers, - DJA - WEB: http://www.secretsocietymusic.org I agree with Darcy as I learned and always used to write transposing instruments parts in concert pitch as I want to see voicings as they sound (especially when writing for more than two or three horns), I mean I want to see chords as I would play them on a piano. Looking at director's scores with parts already transposed does not give me to me the real sound. My two cents, of course.
