[Finale] Cues over Drum line.
Is it possible, in Win Fin 2001 to put a Small note cue melody line above a drum part which is largely staff style measure or double measure repeats. I have no prob putting a cue line over a drum part, but how do I do it over staff style measure repeats. Cheers, Keith in OZ Keith Helgesen. Director of Music, Canberra City Band. Ph: (02) 62910787. But this is how: 1) To make Slash Notation, Rhythmic Notation, and One and Two-bar Repeat staff styles show notes in other layers (essential for drum parts!) Select the Staff Tool (looks like a treble clef) Staff Menu>Define Staff Styles Beside Available Styles select Slash Notation Directly below that about two inches is a check box and Alternate Notation. Click on the Select button just below that. In the Alternate Notation dialogue box at the bottom, there are four options available; Show Items Attached to Notes, Show Notes in Other Layers, Show Items Attached to Notes in Other Layers, and Add Dots to Slashes in Compound Meters. ALL of them should be checked. Click OK Beside Available Styles select Rhythmic Notation (or One bar repeat, or Two bar repeats) Click on the Select button just below Alternate Notation again In the Alternate Notation dialogue box at the bottom, there are four options available; Show Items Attached to Notes, Show Notes in Other Layers, Show Items Attached to Notes in Other Layers, and Stems up in Rhythmic Notation. Check ONLY the first three; leave the stem direction alone. Click OK, Repeat the above paragraph for other styles as necessary, then click OK in the Staff Styles dialogue box. RE: [Finale] Cues over Drum line.
Thanks you Christopher. My rationale is I have a two bar bolero rhythm going on and the melodic cue is merely to advise the drummer as to where he is up to- not for him to ever play the cue. Re: [Finale] Cues over Drum line.
Hey Keith, One thing I forgot to mention -- no matter if you use slashes or two-bar repeats, you should label the ensemble cues with CUE ONLY - DON'T PLAY. The first time through, the drummer will still try to play them, but at least you will have something to point to on his part when you stop the band. - Darcy - [EMAIL PROTECTED] Brooklyn, NY On 20 Mar 2005, at 8:05 PM, Darcy James Argue wrote: Keith, The standard solution in this case -- which I would really recommend you adopt instead of two-bar repeats -- is to write out two bars of the bolero rhythm, then use slash notation after that, with a cont. sim. indication, and ensemble cues above the staff. Another is that it's very difficult to *read* cues above the staff without slash marks inside the staff showing where the beats are. Also, with your method, the cued notes are going be colliding with the 2 symbol in the two-bar repeat all over the place. You're really much better off using slash marks. In some cases, the standard solution really is the standard solution for a reason. - Darcy - [EMAIL PROTECTED] Brooklyn, NY On 20 Mar 2005, at 7:16 PM, Keith Helgesen wrote: Thanks you Christopher.
