Re: [Finale] PDF export and placed graphics
I tried that, but it doesn't seem to make any difference, the only solution is still to position the placed graphic relating to page edge rather than margin (which seems to be the default). Re: [Finale] PDF export and placed graphics
Whatever the case, in my original mail I gave a workaround which works well, so I have no need for a PDF exporter. In fact, PDF exporters are a hassle, because they export the whole page, I only need musical examples. Re: [Finale] PDF export and placed graphics
Hi Johannes, I had trouble exporting partial pages from any page after page 1. The margins were not what I selected. The solution tech support gave me was to use View>Looseleaf Style: Current Page Only. This was the only way I could export partial pages. Let us know if this helps you. I've used probably a dozen PDF drivers by now, and this has been rock solid and makes perfect (and 'tidy') documents from Finale. Re: [Finale] PDF export and placed graphics
If Finale itself is the source of the bug which doesn't output placed graphics correctly, you're right -- a different pdf engine wouldn't make any difference. However, the Finale pdf exporter has been seriously broken for a long time, tending to strew random characters across pages which have lots of tuplets (among other problems). Makemusic verified this bug years ago, but apparently still hasn't gotten it fixed (the pdf exporter is 3rd party software, so they can't fix directly). Additionally, the Finale built-in pdf export is very slow and produces humungous file sizes, up to 10x other print-to-pdf solutions; I recommend avoiding it if at all possible. I've evaluated many of the print-to-pdf apps, and IMHO the best is Bullzip, which is fast, full-featured, produces very small file sizes, and is solid as a rock. I apologize again, I missed an important part of your initial post, which were the words "a selection". It works just like a printer driver. I have used it for years, long before finale or Windows had its own PDF printer driver. I am sorry, are you on a Mac? Re: [Finale] PDF export and placed graphics
I've used PDF995 for years, though I like the export shortcut ALT+F,T,P. The export doesn't automatically embed all text fonts. [Finale] PDF export and placed graphics
Some time ago I found that exporting a selection to PDF would not include placed graphics. Well, today I found that it does, only it places them somewhere else on the page, and there is a fix: Graphics need to be positions in relation to the page margin and not the page edge. I have a feeling that this is actually a very old bug which I probably encountered years ago with graphic export. However, it seems to only happen when exporting to PDF (and EPS) not to bitmap formats. Oh well, I hope the next time I have to do this I will remember. At least I can fix it in my thesis before it goes out to be printed for good. Vector graphics do print much better. ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu https://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale To unsubscribe from finale send a message to: finale-unsubscr...@shsu.edu
