On the Mac side we have a Safe Mode, which follows a Safe Boot, meaning the
status of the computer's OS for that particular boot, one that is basically
system only. This would identify if the problem might be a third-party add-on.
Tracking that down might be annoying but beats a re-install.
Well, this has been a long and involved story,
but... I could have done a safe boot, but it
wouldn't have helped. There were too many
strange things going on that I couldn't trace.
I started reinstalling windows on Saturday
morning, and it was great for a few hours. Then,

What he said. I just went though this. Trouble is, I never remember to
de-authorize until after I wipe the drive. :-)

Yes, they have been very good about that for me as well.
Hopefully I will remember to de-authorize next time. [?]
Actually, I did remember already, because shortly after having them clear

I was thinking of doing a non-destructive
install, but as I
backups so you don't have to build these from scratch:
prefs
component files: ???
ensembles.txt and pagesizes.txt (if you have changed them)
FANs (if you have changed them)
your default file(s)
document style files
templates
3rd-party plugins
etc.
Thanks. I think I will be ok about most of
it. I haven't changed any configuration files,
and all my template stuff is on a different
drive. Hopefully, I can reinstall the program,
point it at the right folders, and go.
I'll check to make sure I have everything, though.
Phil.
