Urban Farmer wanted: Capital District Community Gardens www.cdcg.org ,
operates The Produce Project, an entrepreneurial job training program for
High School students in Upstate New York. Under the Farmer’s supervision,
students use high tunnels and other season extension techniques to grow
organic vegetables and sell them to local restaurants through much of the
year. Students receive food and monetary stipends for their participation.
The Farmer should have practical experience, organic preferred, in farm
management from composting to market sales. The right candidate must be
comfortable working with youth; past teaching or training experience
necessary. This is a year-round position with excellent benefits and a

Building Codes  Energy
Wednesday, March 2, 7:00-9:00pm
What was good enough just a few years ago simply isn't so any more. 
Come find out what the building codes require today, how energy 
efficiency has evolved as part of the codes, and how to achieve 
higher levels of energy efficiency in your projects. Presented by 
Mark Pierce and Billy Epthimiatos. Mark is an Extension Associate in 
Cornell University's Department of Design and Environmental Analysis 
who works in the Consumer Education Program for Residential Energy 
Efficiency, which educates homeowners throughout NY State through the 
Cooperative Extension System. Billy is a Senior Code Inspector with 
the City of Ithaca Building Department.

as a homeowner and contractor, and how can you become a certified 
auditor. Shawn Lindabury, Community Energy Educator, will be

Building Analyst and Envelope Professional), both from CCE-Tompkins.


All About Insulation
Wednesday, March 16, 7:00-9:00pm
Bill Szabo will present a comparison of the various types, their 
characteristics, properties, performance, and costs. Szabo is the 
insulation manager at Halco. Among his many credentials, he is a 
BPI-certified Building Analyst and Shell Specialist, and 
mold-abatement, building science, and air sealing specialist.


Local Building Materials Initiative
Wednesday, March 23, 7:00-9:00pm
First Unitarian Church Annex, 208 E. Buffalo St., near Aurora, Ithaca
This presentation will introduce the Local Building Materials 
Initiative, a Cooperative Extension program to catalog and promote 
building materials being manufactured within 100 miles of Ithaca, and 
will address how to overcome some of the challenges of sourcing and 
working with local building materials. Presented by Apollonya 
Porcelli who heads the Initiative, and e.j. George, a consultant, was 
one of the program's originators. Come see the first prototype of the 
this valuable resource, which will be available the night of the presentation.


Affordable Green Building

Affordable green building is the topic of our final seminar this 
season. Come learn all about green modular construction, recruiting 
and working with volunteers, and how to get the biggest bang for your 
buck and still be green from industry professionals Jack Jensen and 
Matt Haney. Jensen, the Executive Director of Community Building 
Works!, has more than 30 years experience in the affordable housing 
arena. He will be joined by Matt Haney, whose local company, Carina 
Construction, builds green modular homes.  ___

The Cornell Cooperative Extension offices of Schuyler and Steuben 
Counties along with Reisinger's Apple Country are offering a pruning 
workshop that will be repeated on two different dates! This fun, 
educational workshop is ideal for those that are new to fruit growing 
as well as the seasoned fruit grower. Instructor Rick Reisinger will 
demonstrate pruning techniques on apples, stone fruits, nuts and 
berries throughout his family orchard. Other topics that will be 
covered include grafting and apple tree and renovating an older tree 
to improve fruit production. This is an outdoor demonstration; 
participants should dress for the weather. Preregistration is 
required by March 4, 2011 for admission to either workshop. The fee 
is $15 per person or $25 per couple. Cider and donuts will be

Southside Community Center with locally grown fresh fruits and 
vegetables. Seed funding for Ithaca Community Harvest comes from 
United Way of Tompkins County's Basic Needs Fund and Hunger and Food 
Security Grant, a grant from Share our Strength made possible through 
their partnership with Weight Watchers.
