I tried installing octave using fink on Mac OS X. One of the dependable packages f2c cannot be download. Please rectify this or just me ways to correct this problem.

the current bootstrap code in cvs does not check to see if %p/bin/tar
exists, it just uses it anyway. I have a patch i made with current cvs
to fix this. if you want to use the cvs bootstrap code, the patch is
found here:

A new fink release is planned before the Jag release. Most package
from the bindist should work on Jaguar.

Since Jaguar uses GCC 3.1, anything that use C++ will be binary
incompatible to stuff build with GCC 2.95.
But I don't have any explanation. Can you point me to some docs please ?

According to an article on macslash.org, the version of gcc3 that's
tagged gcc-1151 will be released with Jaguar. So if you want to have a
good idea as to whether your code will compile with jaguar: here's a
short guide to installing the cvs version of gcc3.
(I'm compiling the code now.
