Following the advice on the Fink home page I decided to backup my
10.4(transitional) /sw, delete it, upgrade X Code, install fink 0.8.1
and then rebuild my fink system.
Thus I have OS X 10.4.7, Darwin 8.7.0 kernel, X Code 2.3(22 May 06),
