Oops, I forgot that if you haven't been using 10.5 you wouldn't be familiar
with the Mac native Spaces! The rooted fvwm spaces are fine (as far as I
tested them). It is the interaction between the two that isn't entirely happy.

I'm indeed using Xquartz (version 2.1.5). Sorry, but reinstalling
wxgtk-shlibs did not do the trick.
Here is what I did:
fink remove --recursive wxgtk wxgtk-shlibs
fink rebuild wxgtk-shlibs
fink install gnuplot
The error remains the same. Please let me know if you need more
