Oops, I forgot that if you haven't been using 10.5 you wouldn't be familiar with the Mac native Spaces! The rooted fvwm spaces are fine (as far as I tested them). It is the interaction between the two that isn't entirely happy. If you find some of my posts on xquartz you'll see more details.

Hi again, I'm indeed using Xquartz (version 2.1.5). Sorry, but reinstalling wxgtk-shlibs did not do the trick. Here is what I did: fink remove --recursive wxgtk wxgtk-shlibs fink rebuild wxgtk-shlibs fink install gnuplot The error remains the same. Please let me know if you need more
