I think there is an AIR list on Yahoo - you might want to try there, I'd be surprised if AIR can't do that, seems like I saw stuff at MAX in Chicago that showed AIR launching other apps. I know they had it integrated with Outlook and Excel, but not sure if it was via starting the executable.
