RE: [Flashcoders] Flash exe and Vista

2007-02-26 Thread Robert Akerson
I just finished a large Flash CD project that started out as a SWF
Studio build, but Switched over the Using MDMs Zinc 2.5 after some
initial testing with Vista.

http://www.multidmedia.com/

This got around the locking up and Admin access issues with SWFStudio.
The syntax is fairly similar between the 2 applications and I was able
to re-code the entire wrapper portion in a couple of days.

Heya All,

Apparently Northcode are working on an update to make the system work
with
Vista, from memory there is something in the forum about it.

mProjector (www.screentime.com) does apparently work fine with Vista,
although they do not appear to have done a full and complete test as yet
(they just haven't had any problems reported).

I am in the same boat as you. I use SWF Studio but I have to have a
working
version for Vista before I can publish, so the present situation is very
frustrating.

Subject: [Flashcoders] Flash exe and Vista

Hi there,

I'm using swf studio as a swf wrapper. Unfortunately swf studio has not
been updated for vista yet. As a result you have to have administrator
rights to run the flash app.

Even more annoying is the fact that if you just run the application by
double-clicking the exe (or through an autorun file on a CD-ROM) the exe
won't start but will still be listed in the task manager. This means
that you manually have to quit the application in the task manager
before you can start the exe as an administrator.

The worst thing about this whole issue is that Microsoft didn't think it
was necessary to inform the user in any way when he tries to run a
legacy exe.
No error message - nothing. The app just won't start.

So my question is: "Are there any workarounds yet?" Do other swf wrapper
tools already work with vista?

I came up with this idea of creating a vista compatible windows form
application. This application would then open an alert popup window,
which informs the user that the application which is about to be
launched (my flash exe) requires administrator rights. It would then
prompt the user to
Run the application as an administrator, start the flash exe and quit.

Not sure if this is possible though ...

Any thoughts?

Robin

[Flashcoders] Append variables to SWF server-side

2007-02-26 Thread Mick G

Does anyone know if there is a way to add data to a SWF file server-side?

Eg. I have a swf that site on my server. I want users to be able to select
an option from a dropdown such as Select a color: BLUE. This would then send
them a SWF to download that has the variable color=blue embedded into the
SWF. I guess this would mean the server would need to recompile a SWF which
would require large CPU so I'm not sure if this is possible but thought I'd
ask anyway.

Re: [Flashcoders] swf/html and swf/swf communication

2007-02-26 Thread Andy Herrman

My understanding is that LocalConnection has nothing to with the
browser. It's some process that Flash itself has implemented, so you
can run the SWFs in a browser, projector, anything. For instance, I
have a flash EXE that talks to flash movies running in various
browsers, and it all works fine. :)

As for javascript in getURL, I think in general it works, but I've had
some issues with it. I ran into a problem where if I did getURL calls
with javascript in quick succession some of them would never run (if
the first one didn't complete before the second one ran then the first
one would be canceled, or something like that). So in general I think
it works, but I don't always trust it.

As for how much javascript you put in the getURL call, I would suggest
you write a javascript function in the HTML page, and then simply call
that function using getURL.

RE: [Flashcoders] DataGrid Component not displaying all rows

2007-02-26 Thread Charlie Skinner
This strange quirk of the DataGrid Component has nothing to do with the
Flash Remoting RecordSet Class. It is in fact caused by the DataGrid

simple, make it one pixel less high.

I have a DataGrid Component that has it's dataProvider property set to a
RecordSet that has been returned from the server via Flash Remoting. All
goes well untill I try to display more than 20 results in the DataGrid,
when it will display all except for the last one. I've traced the length
of the dataProvider and the last item in the dataProvider and it all
looks ok. By using Service Capture I can see that the RecordSet that is
returned is not the same as what is displayed in the DataGrid.

I'm thinking this may have something to do with the pageable options of
a RecordSet. Or possibly some setting in Flash Remoting. But if anyone
has any other ideas what might cause this, then please let me know.

[Flashcoders] MovieClipLoader woes

2007-02-26 Thread Ian Thomas

Hi all,
Has anyone ever come across a situation where MovieClipLoader just
refuses to fire any events whatsoever?

 The situation:

- Flash 8, running in IDE or as local projector (on Win XP)
- A whole pile of successful MovieClipLoader calls have been made
(probably 50 or so by this stage), _including_ the very same bit of
code which later fails.
- Nothing else is loading/streaming at the same time.
- Three calls (in rapid succession) are made to a function which does
the following:

 - creates a new MovieClipLoader
 - creates a new MovieClip (at a new depth)
 - assigns a new listener for the MovieClipLoader
 - starts loading a .swf into the clip.

The first two times, it works perfectly. The third time, no events are
fired and the clip apparently doesn't load.

On each occasion, we wait for the previous load to successfully
complete first (onLoadInit) before we call the function again.

Completely repeatable each time.

The loaded .swf isn't doing anything odd (it contains no code whatsoever).

*sigh*

Any ideas? Or robust alternatives to MovieClipLoader? (Bokel's
LoaderClass is a little heavyweight for what I want to do, but I might
take a look at it).

[Flashcoders] swf/html and swf/swf communication

2007-02-26 Thread Martin Klasson

Hi Flashcoders,

I have been searching around, but not found it to be that easy to get
answers. I know that you people

here tends to know everything, so I will ask you.

first question:
Is LocalConnection the only way to talk between two swf's in a browser
(when NOT using javascript),
and are there a list of browsers/os that supports this? In my case it I
will have two swf's on the same
html-page. -or is there a list of browsers/os that LocalConnection does
NOT work on?

second question:
Inline javascript in flash, are there any problems with that? I mean
using javascript in a getURL to make
it for example write out another swf in a . I have used javascript
to open popups directly from a
getURL -but is there any known limitations of writing javascript in the
getURL? Maybe the 99> character-bugg

still is there in Flash as well?

Thanks mates!
