[Flashcoders] Detect when AIR (Android/iOS) exits

2010-10-18 Thread Kevin Newman

Hi,

I know there is a way to specifically exit AIR apps on Android at least,
but does anyone know how to detect when someone presses the home button
in iOS (and event or something) - to save the current running state?

thanks,

Re: [Flashcoders] Flash CS5 and photoshop import and TLFTextfield

2010-10-18 Thread Patrick Matte
In fact, not only is there no options to create regular TextField instead of
TLFTextField but all the fonts are wrong in the TLFTextFields.

I opened Flash CS4 and imported the same PSD file and every TextField had
the correct font.

Thumbs down Adobe Flash CS5...

The OP referenced "old" players. I didn't think "freedom" players were
the topic.

There is the GPL 3 Lightspark player:

I disagree. There is NO _free_ player supporting AVM2 movies.
Free player means virtual support for _any_ platform.

See some screenshots of Gnash on embedded devices:

So, there's surely MUCH WIDER availability of players for AVM1 than
there is for AVM2.

You must be using some definition of "free" that doesn't involve beer.

Re: [Flashcoders] Actionscript 3 and Flashplayer 8

2010-10-18 Thread Kevin Newman
Flash Player 8 supports only AVM1 bytecode (compiled from Actionscript
1.0 and 2.0 - and haXe).

Flash Player 9+ supports AVM1 and AVM2. Actionscript 3.0 gets compile
into AVM2 bytecode (and haXe).

There is no way to use Actionscript 3.0 with Flash Player 8 and lower.

Even if you use haXe, the display list API is different when targeting
Flash 9+ vs. Flash 8- so even haXe isn't completely compatible.

On alternative platforms - AS3 (AVM2) is available on more platforms
than it used to be, even being supported in some versions of Flash Lite,
but AS2/AS1 (AVM1) is still more compatible (especially with older
hardware/platforms).

[Flashcoders] Catch / Error Trap 404 in Chrome?

2010-10-18 Thread Jer Brand
It's probably something stupid, but my Google-foo that's failing me:

Working with a flash.display.Loader and intentionally passing in a url
that's invalid so I can trap 404's. I'm working in Firefox, chrome and IE6,
and FF and IE recover from the 404 (FF doing console traces that bear out
what's happening). However, Chrome is displaying a browser-generated error
in the console, and stops all execution in the flash player. Here's the
slightly-made-up code:

private function init_overlay( )
{
_overlay = new Loader( ) ;
this.addChild( _overlay ) ;
 this._overlay.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener( Event.INIT ,
onOverlayLoaded ) ;
this._overlay.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener( IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR,
onOverlayError ) ;
 this._overlay.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(
HTTPStatusEvent.HTTP_STATUS, onOverlayHTTPStatus ) ;
this._overlay.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(
SecurityErrorEvent.SECURITY_ERROR, onOverlaySecurityError ) ;
 try{
this._overlay.load( new URLRequest( Configuration.overlay ) ) ;
} catch(e:Error){
 js.Log("TRY-CATCH")
}
}
private function onOverlayLoaded( event:Event )
{
js.Log( "Status is OK" ) ;
}
private function onOverlayError( event:Event )
{
js.Log("IOError" ) ;
}
private function onOverlayHTTPStatus( event:HTTPStatusEvent )
{
js.Log("Status is " + event.status) ;
}
private function onOverlaySecurityError( event:SecurityErrorEvent )
{
js.Log("Security Error") ;
}

Firefox traces "IOError" as you'd expect, IE doesn't trace, but the real
code in onOverlayError recovers from the error and continues. Chrome traces
"Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (Not
Found)" and stops dead. Anyone see what I'm missing, or is this a known
issue?

The old flash player will ignore the swf tags related to as 3.
New players will ignore as 2 related tags when the swf declares that it
is as 2.

I actually asked a guy I know (nickname jan_flanders) to make a tool to
create a swf with both as 2 and as 3 code. It's not that useful in
practice, but at least I can prevent the main timeline from running
wildly on way too old players and can show an version error screen.

But if you want to code the application twice (u mad?), the tool is
designed to be able to do it.
