Re: [Flashcoders] Apple changes their guidelines
adobe's current official response: http://blogs.adobe.com/conversations/2010/09/great-news-for-developers.html Apple’s announcement today that it has lifted restrictions on its third-party developer guidelines has direct implications for Adobe’s Packager for iPhone, a feature in the Flash Professional CS5 authoring tool. This feature was created to enable Flash developers to quickly and easily deliver applications for iOS devices. The feature is available for developers to use today in Flash Professional CS5, and we will now resume development work on this feature for future releases. This is great news for developers and we’re hearing from our developer community that Packager apps are already being approved for the App Store. We do want to point out that Apple’s restriction on Flash content running in the browser on iOS devices remains in place. Adobe will continue to work to bring full web browsing with Flash Player 10.1 as well as standalone applications on AIR to a broad range of devices, working with key industry partners including Google, HTC, Microsoft, Motorola, Nokia, Palm/HP, RIM, Samsung and others. colin On 09/09/10 09:46, Henrik Andersson wrote: http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2010/09/09statement.html ___ Flashcoders mailing list Flashcoders@chattyfig.figleaf.com http://chattyfig.figleaf.com/mailman/listinfo/flashcoders ___ Flashcoders mailing list Flashcoders@chattyfig.figleaf.com http://chattyfig.figleaf.com/mailman/listinfo/flashcoders

Re: [Flashcoders] ASDoc third party libraries
if your library is a .swc file, you should be able to just include it in the -library-path without it being documented, like this: -source-path ${build.working_root}/src -library-path+=${build.working_root}/libs in the case of source-based libraries, you could compile a .swc and link to that in your code instead, then use the library-path for your docs. (you also could ask the library developer to offer a .swc...seems like a good thing to do.) lower-level -doc-sources entries might do the trick too. e.g., -doc-sources /src/com/yourpackageA/ /src/com/yourpackageB/ instead of: -doc-sources /src/ another option might be to explicitly list all your own classes in the doc-classes, then set -exclude-dependencies to true. i don't believe there's a way to exclude a package from docs. sadly, asdoc is pretty primitive. i have a laundry list of feature requests that i'll post here when i've entered bugs so people can help vote them up. colin Merrill, Jason wrote: Those of you who use ASDoc I'm sure have come across this before. If you use FlashDevelop and ASDoc - then even better as that is my setup. How do you handle running ASDoc on a Flash or Flex project where you are also using other third party libraries? If you run ASDoc on a project that uses a third party library like Greensock's TweenLite or Papervision3D, as I am, you can get all kinds of compiler errors because it tries to include those in the documentation as well (since they are imported into your classes), and those are not necessarily set up for ASDoc. I know in FlashDevelop, the Actionscript Documentation Generator has a field for classes to exclude - but it would be impossible to list out all those third party classes - is there a way to exclude an entire package? Re: [Flashcoders] Events can be tedious, general thoughts on best practice?
hey cor, i'm guessing jason's example is modern ActionScript 3.0, but if you're looking for a range of examples, here's one in ActionScript 2.0, showing how to implement a clock using mvc: http://www.moock.org/lectures/mvc/ other than little syntactic details, the only aspect of the code that is obviously outdated is the Observer pattern implementation. in ActionScript 3.0, you'd use events rather than Observer to send updates from the model to the view(s), but the example is pretty much still applicable otherwise. it might even make an interesting study project to update it to ActionScript 3.0. have fun! colin Cor wrote: Thanks Jason, I understand the theory, but have a problem creating a MVC myself. In basic MVC, the controller listens to both the model and view for events. Since Flash doesn't have data binding like Flex has, the model might dispatch an event when a value changes, and the controller would then tell the view how to change and might send a value to it. Also, the view might dispatch an event that the controller would be listening for, and the controller might then tell another view or the model (or both) to change. So the controller controls the view and the model, but the controller does not get controlled. In more advanced patterns and frameworks, you have things like commands (like in Cairngorm), façades, proxies etc. to also facilitate these communications. Re: [Flashcoders] OOP Books (OT)
hi all, as the author of an oop book myself, i have to admit that books aren't always the right learning tool for everyone. i agree with benny...i've liked the video training that's been emerging over the last few years. here are a bunch of other free options: http://gotoandlearn.com/ http://tv.adobe.com/show/actionscript-11-with-doug-winnie/ http://tv.adobe.com/channel/development/actionscript http://tv.adobe.com/show/max-2009-develop/ in fact, there's also a video version of Essential ActionScript 3.0 available called The Lost ActionScript 3.0 Weekend. it's a commercial product, but lots of it is freely available online here: oop overview: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/colin-moocks-lost-actionscript-weekend/object-oriented-programming-overview/ making a class: http://vplayer.oreilly.com/?chapter=4video_product=urn%3Ax-domain%3Aoreilly.com%3Aproduct%3A9780596801540.VIDEO#embedded_player inheritance http://my.safaribooksonline.com/player?xmlid=9780596801564/i17 garbage collection (very important in oop ActionScript 3.0!) http://tv.adobe.com/watch/colin-moocks-lost-actionscript-weekend/object-references-and-garbage-collection/ datatypes: http://vplayer.oreilly.com/?chapter=4video_product=urn%3Ax-domain%3Aoreilly.com%3Aproduct%3A9780596801557.VIDEO#embedded_player graphics and oop: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/colin-moocks-lost-actionscript-weekend/graphics-programming/ http://tv.adobe.com/watch/colin-moocks-lost-actionscript-weekend/the-display-list/ debugging and profiling oop: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/colin-moocks-lost-actionscript-weekend/production-topics-flex-debugging-mode/ http://tv.adobe.com/watch/colin-moocks-lost-actionscript-weekend/production-topics-flex-profiling/ flash/flex workflow http://my.safaribooksonline.com/player?xmlid=9780596801588/i20 course introduction: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/colin-moocks-lost-actionscript-weekend/course-1-introduction/ 3d effects with adobe's chris nuuja: http://vplayer.oreilly.com/?chapter=20video_product=urn%3Ax-domain%3Aoreilly.com%3Aproduct%3A9780596801540.VIDEO#embedded_player the full video is available at: http://www.oreilly.com/go/law once you're up to speed on the basics, examples, practice, and a helping community like flashcoders should take you the rest of the way. if you're doing any flex work, i find peter dehaan's examples to be a fantastic resource: http://flexexamples.com/ and for targeted questions, the stackoverflow community is really helpful: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/tagged/actionscript happy coding! colin Benny wrote: Hi Susan I cannot recommend any OOP book but I can recommend Lynda.com. Lynda.com has some great video courses, like http://www.lynda.com/home/DisplayCourse.aspx?lpk2=759 Which amongst other covers OOP fundamentals and common design patterns. - Benny -Oorspronkelijk bericht- Van: flashcoders-boun...@chattyfig.figleaf.com [mailto:flashcoders-boun...@chattyfig.figleaf.com] Namens Susan Day Verzonden: woensdag 10 maart 2010 19:29 Aan: Flash Coders List Onderwerp: Re: [Flashcoders] OOP Books (OT) On Wed, Mar 10, 2010 at 12:23 PM, Mattheis, Erik (MIN - WSW) ematth...@webershandwick.com wrote: I got AS 3 w/Design Patterns right when I delved into AS3 and I found the examples too long and complicated to follow.
