Can you not just turn off the visibility of everything exceptthe one fading in and the one fading out. Once you fade-out to alpha almost zero, turn off the visibbilty of the faded out image. You probably can just set the alpha to 0 for the ones that you do not want to see. Visibility is probably better for performance.
