[flexcoders] flex2 accessibility

2006-03-27 Thread Alisdair Mills
Hi,

I am hoping someone could point me to any documentation on flex 2
accessibility. I notice there is an accessibility option for the
compiler - but this is off by default. Is this off because it is
currently a developer beta? What difference does it make to the swf
if you compile with it set to true? Can it be set at runtime? And
most importantly - what accessibility does it provide (screenreader
support? changable text size / colour contrast? tab management?).

Basically I am trying to push flex 2 to a few clients right now and
know this is going to be the first question asked - Does it cover
all legal requirements over accessibility?.

Any pointers over this will be a great help.

Cheers, Al

Re: [flexcoders] Mac Flex developing

2006-03-24 Thread Alisdair Mills
Hi Ted,

No media imports - just actionscript and mxml files. Files does seem
to be the major factor in the speed - it states it is getting 546
files - there are maybe 40 in my project so i'm assuming it is
extracting all the flex framework files every time it compiles?

thanks for the tips with compc - i haven't got round to putting in
the media assets yet - i figured it'd slow compile times down so am
going to skin the project right at the end... and will certainly look
into putting them in a swc file.

cheers, Al

On 24 Mar 2006, at 14:36, Ted Patrick wrote:

 Al,

 This actually looks to be more related to media imports. The 8458ms
 time next to files should stick out. That looks like media
 processing to me. In Flex 1.5, this aspect of compilation is the
 most resource intensive.

 Are you:

 1. Embeding Fonts

 2. Embedding Images, GIF, JPEG, PNG, SWF

 3. Embedding Audio

 The ASC compiler and MXMLC compiler are very fast but when tasked
 with embedding images, font to glyph conversion, audio, it is
 slower. This is actually one of the illusions of compiler
 performance. MTASC and ASC are somewhat comparable ( ASC is faster
 but very few have seen it standalone! ) but when you add media
 encoding, MXML to AS translation, AS compilation to ABC, and
 finally SWF assembly, MXMLC obviously takes longer. This is the
 same exact logic in why Flash compilation times are much slower
 than MTASC. Obviously when you must encode every single character
 in a font into a glyph, encode images, and encode audio,
 compilation will take exponentially longer.

 There is a trick here. You can use COMPC to precompile media assets
 into SWC. The SWC format is directly injected into the SWF bytecode
 and thus requires no compiler think time. Moving media compilation
 to SWC speeds compiler time 10 fold.

 My 2 cents,

I develop flex 2.0 on a mac with flex builder beta 1 i had a great set up by copying the files from the windows plugin. for me the debug view worked perfectly. For editing i used the oxygen plugin as the flex builder one for mxml crashed eclipse and the AS editor had a cursor that jumped around the page as you typed... not workable at all. I used the xsd from flex 1.0 and updated the namespace to get code completion with oxygen for mxml.with beta 2 copying the files across doesn't do anything to my eclipse. it just ignores them completely... so i've had to set up an ant build to run mxmlc... a real pain because i've lost error checking on save and more importantly mxmlc takes 10-15 seconds from the command line.. but only took about 1 second from flex builder with beta 1. no idea why it takes so much longer.for traces i would advise using the debug player and setting it up so traces are written to a text file (by creating an mm.cfg file). There is an eclipse plugin called flash log from paul spitzer - which outputs the contents of this file to an eclipse panel. paul's website is no longer online... feel free to email me offlist if anyone wants me to send them the plugin.so developing flex on a mac is a bit of a pain... but i still love it (flex and the mac).cheers, AlOn 23 Mar 2006, at 20:09, Richard Leggett wrote: I didn't see whether you specified 1.X or 2.0, and I'm sure someone else will be better able to speak about Flex 1.X, but I might be able to offer some insights for Flex 2.0.   I'm a PC guy myself but my colleague is currently working on a Mac running Eclipse with the FlexBuilder 2 plug-ins (copied directly from a PC install). [flexcoders] enumerable instance properties

2006-03-13 Thread Alisdair Mills
Hi,

I am trying to use a for in loop to access instance properties in AS3
but it isn't finding any so I have a value object

public class VO {
public var foo : String ;
}

then if I pass an instance of this and try and access it's
properties

for ( var prop : String in myVO ) {
trace ( prop +  =  + myVO[ prop ] ) ;
}

... it finds nothing. but if i do this...

trace ( myVO.foo ) ;

... it will output the value no problem.

Is there some way of marking instance properties as enumerable?

Thanks in advance for any help it is driving me nuts :(

cheers, Al

Re: [flexcoders] How to dynamically invoke AS3 class constuctor ?

haven't tried it but maybe try...import flash.util.getClassByName;thenvar ClassReference:Class = getClassByName("A");var instance:Object = new ClassReference(1,2,3);cheers, AlOn 2 Mar 2006, at 12:25, Vadim Melnik wrote: Hi All, It is going to be easy, but I can't figure the way to implement it. [flexcoders] mac debug player

2006-02-14 Thread Alisdair Mills
Hi,

Am currently enjoying messing around with the flex2 beta but as i
work on a mac i have had to piece together a working environment for
myself (mxmlc, eclipse, oxygen, asdt, ant works pretty sweet for the
purpose).

The mac 8.5 alpha release was the debug player so i could use
trace and look at the logs to see what was happening - however the
beta player for the mac is not the debug player - which makes things
difficult.

I have ported the asdt logging classes to as3 - so can use that - but
if the socket server isn't running it causes the browser to crash (a
bug?).

So basically... can I get the alpha 8.5 mac flash player back (if
anyone has it can you email it to me)? or can i get the beta debug
flash player for the mac from anywhere?

thanks for helping a stubborn mac user :)

cheers, Al
