RE: [flexcoders] Acrobat 9 and Flex

2008-06-27 Thread matt wicks
No, there are as I understand it two modes of integration
(i) using a flex / flash widget which can communicate with the basic Acrobat
Javascript API via External Interface

(ii)using the new ACROBAT api which provides a series of interfaces
specifically for building PDF Portfolios

neither of them directly address your issues BUT it is possible to use
EXternal Interface to generate PDFs on the fly which would allow for some
imporovements to your point2

just a suggestion to adobe guys, maybe because of feeling bad with

Another possibility is that the .. is getting in the way. I've had

 RangeError: Error #2006: The supplied index is out of bounds.

 This seems to occur due to ActionScript 3's lack of concurrency
 support. It would seem that if I quickly remove and add several
 components to a container this shows its ugly head. What makes this
 particularly scary is that the error message appears once and
then any
 time I try to do anything at all to the container after that it
throws

 the same message over and over.

 I originally saw this appear in reference to popups on the
 SystemManager container and created a work-around to pre-instantiate
 windows and just keep them hidden until needed. It was
specifically a

 problem when I would use the popup manager to display a menu and the
 selection of a menu option would then display a window. What
ended up

 happening was that the window would be created and popped up at the
 same time the popup was being removed and it would get its internal
 indexing off it would seem and never could you do anything to the
 SystemManager container again.

 Is there a way to add and remove items safely or is this a
known bug
 and one I just have to live with until Adobe gets around to
fixing it?

A Flex Container does tricky stuff with child indexes and overrides
child management APIs such as numChildren, addChildAt(),
removeChildAt(), etc., because there are two kinds of children --
content children and non-content children. If you write

HBox
Button/
Button/
/HBox

there are only two content children but, if the HBox has a
background or scrollbars, there can be additional non-children
children.

I think what happened is that the swapChildren() and swapChildrenAt
() methods got added to DisplayObjectContainer in Player 9, and the
Flex framework is not yet supporting them properly in the Container
class.

the courses themselves are good, but if I were you I would go for a

found with those courses is that there is so much to pack in that
there isn't room to really explore things as fully as one might
like . Some of the early stuff (like adding controls etc) is stuff
that is pretty intuitive for existing developers and is often best

Also, there is the Creating visual ah can't recall and don't

   Hello. I'm stumped.

   I'm creating some circles in AS and putting them
  on a Canvas that's
   declared in my MXML file like so

   var childCanvas:Canvas = new Canvas();

   childCanvas.graphics.lineStyle(1, 0x33, 1);

   childCanvas.graphics.beginFill(0xCC,0.6);

   childCanvas.graphics.drawCircle(200,150,7);

   childCanvas.graphics.endFill();

   childCanvas.id = myCircle;

   childCanvas.toolTip = I'm a circle;

   mainCanvas.addChild(childCanvas);

   This all works fine. However, I want to add some
  text next to the circle
   (with AS) and I can't see how to do it. I've tried
  many ways and nothing
   worked. It seems I can't add an instance of a text
  object as a child to
   the canvas in the same way that I can a shape. How
  should I be doing
   this?

You need to get the object as a display object

var xxx:MovieClip = platObject.getChildByName('instancename') as
MovieClip

Hello all,

I have a Flash Player 9, AS3 version of a SWF that I am bringing into
Flex, using the SWFLoader Component.

Once I bring the SWF in, I am creating a MovieClip variable and
assigning to it, the SWFLoader.content. Here is a quick code example:

var platObject:MovieClip = mySWFLoader.content;

So once that assignment is made, you can execute certain built-in
methods available to any Flash Movie - for example:

platObject.play();
platObject.loaderInfo.[etc]
And so on...

That is all well and good - but what about MovieClips that reside
in the

Root Timeline? In this particular SWF File, I have a MovieClip called
platMovieClip - and I am trying to access it's properties and
methods

from within Flex. For example, I'd like to toggle the visibility, so I
tried this code:

platObject.platMovieClip._visible = false;

When I try this command, I get an error that says the property
platMovieClip is unknown or something to that effect...

If we can't access the assets that reside in SWF Files, then what
is the

whole point of all this? Or maybe there is something that I am
overlooking - but as far as I can tell, the platObject should
represent

the SWF...

Could any of you shed some light on this topic for me? This
functionality is VERY important to the success of my website launch.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Temporarily assigning it would probably be best I guess - especially
as its going to loop through 140 each time -
Scott's idea is a good one too and should work - might give it a try
later on myself to test it - but my gut instinct would b e to create
a loop - then you can just use getChildAt(i) to assign the
properties ...

Well, my goal is this:

There will be a ton of interactivity between the Flex variables,
and the Subdivision Plat SWF. In fact, how the SWF looks visually,
and behaves based on mouse interaction, will all depend on the
values brought back from the database.

For example, if a Lot has been sold to a customer, I need to change
the color of the Lot MovieClip to Red. There are 4 other possible
Statuses, that the Lot could have - and each Status is represented
by a unique color.

After the Plat SWF is brought in, the Flex App will loop through
all 140 Lots, and set each corresponding MovieClip color, in
addition to any other information I want shown. Luckily, in this
particular case, I will have knowledge beforehand based on the
database data, as to which Lots will already pre-exist on the SWF.

This is where I need to decide, which parts I should code within
the Flash 9 SWF, and which parts I should code within Flex. If I
had my choice of course, I'd code everything 100% within Flex.
Bottom line, I just want to code the bare minimum on the SWF side,
so I can programmatically control everything from within Flex.

Anyway, moving on, when the mouse hovers over a Lot, I need to have
some additional information popup - like a ToolTip. I need the
dimensions, total square footage, and the customer information (if
the Lot has been sold). In this case, I can just have a custom
component popup, and populate it with the corresponding information
from my ArrayCollection.

I just need to find a way, that when the mouse hovers over a
particular Lot on the SWF, to signal Flex which Lot is being
hovered over, so I can grab the appropriate data from the
ArrayCollection, and fill in all the blanks.

So with all that said, is there any other methodology you would
use, to accomplish the tasks I mentioned?

I suppose I could forego creating 140 variables, and just create a
new one on the fly, each time the mouse hovers over a particular
lot. Then I can grab the corresponding Child, and temporarily
assign it to the Variable - in order to gain access to it's
properties and methods.

Thanks again for all your help -

Mike

[flexcoders] what to override in dragdrop?

2006-09-05 Thread matt wicks

Hi all,

I have an app that returns data from a
Remote Object into a datagrid which then is dragged into a TileList, which
created Tiles which are CustomRenderers all fine so far

The problem is that when the data from
the grid is dropped I want Flex to run off query a web service, return the info
and add that into the data provider for the tile again this works ok
BUT the I get two tiles being created : one with the data that I dragged and
dropped and one with the full dataset that I have brought in (ie the return
from the web service coupled with the data I originally had). I want to get rid
of the first one (the default one which is created on the drag drop event) . I
clearly need to override something I think but I dont really know what,
I thought it would be

override public function set
data(value:Object):void{

 //blah

}

But this doesnt seem to work

Any ideas anyone please?
