And before you issue silly challenges to people you should try reading what

It's neither. It's an opinion. And a step back from what? Flash? Who's saying
HTML5 is more advanced or capable than Flash? I really don't think you've

 Did you really have to do anything in SVG? I mean not using the format, but,

Ok, you should explain where you're coming from here, because again, it sounds
like you have no idea what you are talking about. SVG is supported by every
modern browser on the planet - even IE9. I wouldn't expect that level of
support if the format were flawed.

Perhaps you should communicate your understanding of the problems to the SVG
working group...

 Besides, SWF is absolutely equally open if speaking about graphics.

That is total nonsense.

 SWF is not a proprietary format,

Yes. It. Is.

 there are many commercial and non-commercial tools (Maya, CorelXara, Swish,
 Sothik, HaXe, SWFTools and so on) capable of generating / editing it.

Red herrings...

 You don't need any license of any kind to make your own SWF editor.

Ok, and...?

 What is proprietary is the AS3 extension to the ECMAScript language + several
 video codecs + MP3 (the later, of course not in exclusive ownership of Adobe).

The whole format is proprietary. Published != Open.

 And what you are saying is, technically - whatever comes or whatever pays

You have completely missed the whole point of just about everything I've said

 Hii All,

 I have a datagrid populated with a list of users. Also, am using
 in-place
 item renderer for two columns.

 What I want to do is:

 Let the admin modify the various details of any number of
 users(multiple
 rows).
 After updating/changing the details, on the click of Update button,
 I want to identify, who all those user's are(user Id's), whose details
 has
 been modified in the datagrid, so that I could update the details for
 modified users only in the database.

 Following is the code:
 mx:DataGrid id=usersDG dataProvider={newUserList} width=100%

The browser goes away? That's usually a sign of an infinite loop and
stack overflow. Check your code and re-post it if you still have
questions.

I set the editable=true. Now as soon as I change the selected item in
combobox and click on any other item. It forcefully closes my browser.
The problem is with the eventhandler method only, cuz I tried to remove
the
eventhandler method and after that clicking on different items, it is
working fine that way(means different items can be selected).
Any light on this part??

Thanks,
Manu.

Hii..

I still have to check that out. But again, here I got one another similar
problem.

A little change to your solution,

var baz:XMLList = foo.label.(category_key == 0, keyword_type_id ==Taa Daaa,
keyword_value_id == Reason 2);

Here, it is working fine for the last element in between the braces as in
keyword_value_id == Reason 2. But it doesn't work for the
keyword_type_id ==Taa Daaa.

XMLList is giving me a tough time.

Thanks,

Oh, Got the solution.. I was making this silly mistake.
I was using comma(,) instead of
Wrong one:
var baz:XMLList = foo.label.(category_key == 0, keyword_type_id ==Taa Daaa,
keyword_value_id == Reason 2);

Right one:
var baz:XMLList = foo.label.(category_key == 0  keyword_type_id ==Taa Daaa
 keyword_value_id == Reason 2);

Thanks Alex for your support.

 I borrowed this from Andre Michelle... works a charm.

 private var keyState:Array = new Array();

 private function handleKeyDown(event:KeyboardEvent):void
 {
 keyState[event.keyCode] = true;
 }

 private function handleKeyUp(event:KeyboardEvent):void

 This takes advantage of the fact that AS3 arrays are sparse (otherwise you
 could just use an Object or Dictionary). Just replace any calls to
 Key.isDown() with keyState[Keyboard.CONSTANT].

  eventually I'll be making use of the Flex specific stuff, and for now I

  and am on a Mac, so no AS3 Preview for me... :(

  Anyways, I wrote a little function to try and capture persistent key
  press... as the
  Key.isDown() got deprecated. It looks like this:

  private var l:uint; //left
  private var u:uint; //up
  private var r:uint; //right
  private var d:uint; //down

  private function persistKeyDown(event:KeyboardEvent):void
  {

  l = setInterval(control, 10, event);
  }

  if(event.keyCode == Keyboard.UP)
  {
  u = setInterval(control, 10, event);
  }

  if(event.keyCode == Keyboard.RIGHT)
  {
  r = setInterval(control, 10, event);
  }

  if(event.keyCode == Keyboard.DOWN)
  {
  d = setInterval(control, 10, event);
  }

  //tFrame.text = keyDown:  + event.keyCode;
  }

  private function persistKeyUp(event:KeyboardEvent):void
  {
  if(event.keyCode == Keyboard.LEFT)
  {
  clearInterval(l);
  }

  if(event.keyCode == Keyboard.UP)
  {
  clearInterval(u);
  }

  if(event.keyCode == Keyboard.RIGHT)
  {
  clearInterval(r);
  }

  if(event.keyCode == Keyboard.DOWN)
  {
  clearInterval(d);
  }

  //tFrame.text = keyUp:  + event.keyCode;
  }

  The control function just applies forces to an object on the screen. I
  have the seperate
  intervals for each key so that I can catch simultaneous keys being held
  down... is that
  right? I think I must be doing something wrong, because, though it works
  fine in FireFox,
  it behaves all weird in Safari.

  You can check it out here:

  http://www.noncehence.com/game/experiments/test05.html

  Ideally, the green ball should bounce off the walls and the grey box.
  You'll have to click
  inside the canvas to give it focus, and you can control the green ball
  with the arrow keys.
  It's actually kind of fun already, but only in FireFox. In Safari, the
  green ball seems to get
  stuck in one direction or another and magnatize to a wall.

  Is there a difference between how keyDown/Up events are dispatched in
  various browsers?

Im mistaken, it is deeper than the

is null in the click handler. Still looking.

It appears to be a problem with the mouseover
highlight. The tiles are still enabled, still respond to the mouseclick, but
there is no visible feedback.

I also see that the plain List does not have this problem.

Tracy,
Yes, if the data changes enough, the tilelist still works . I don't get
why an XML Object that hasn't changed would freeze up the tilelist while

a generic Object wouldn't (that is why I intentionally put a value in
that wouldn't change much). My problem is this:
1) I am retrieving the XML data from a server
2) I need the tilelist to refresh itself (not append) with the returned
data even if the data hasn't changed
3) The data does not always change between retrievals which causes havoc

in my tilelist.

Oh, and I am using a URLLoader to retrieve the data not an HTTPService
(which has too big of a footprint for what I need to do but works
properly). Thanks for your reply.

-Ethan

 I don't see the problem with this example. Except that day.toString()

 doesn't change often enough to see the change when you click. Change
 it to .hours and it clearly is not frozen

Re: [flexcoders] Re: Re: XML Binding Problem

2006-08-29 Thread Ethan Farmer
When I say that the tilelist freezes, I mean that whichever item in the
list did not change can no longer be selected. If I have a tilelist
with 4 items, and I retrieve XML data that changes 2 of those items,
then they are still selectable but the other two will no long activate
(no mouseovers etc). I posted some code last night that should
demonstrate the behavior a little bit better.
Thanks,

Ethan

[flexcoders] Re: re-filtering data in DataGrid?

2006-05-04 Thread Tim Hoff

To expand on Deepa's suggestion, you can easily filter an arrayCollection that is used as a dataProvider with the following code. Call the filterGrid() function from the comboBox change event.
- THpublic function filterGrid():void { gridDataProvider.filterFunction=statusFilter; gridDataProvider.refresh();}
 public function statusFilter(item:Object):Boolean { return item.status == cboStatusFilter.selectedItem; } // status is the name of the array element (field) to be filtered
--- In flexcoders@yahoogroups.com, "djbrown_rotonews" [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I know that the DataGrid has a filterFunction param where you can specify any filtering capabilities you want to display in the DataGrid. Can this function call be re-issued programmatically? I've got an app where I want to display some data from a jsp call, filtered based on initial (and default) values of some combo boxes, but also "re-filtered" again if the user selects another value from the combo box without re-calling the jsp again. Is that possible? I'm willing to add a button called "filter" to capture the current states of the combo boxes and trigger the filterFunction call again if that helps. The filterFunction expects one arg though, so a straight call to filterData() from the filter button's click method won't do the trick.

 You're referring to the 'filterFunction' of the collection, right?
 Call 'refresh' and the filter will run again.

RE: [flexcoders] RE: RE: Asynchrony problem?

Hi guys,

However, we are looking forward to seeing
Matts implementation with FlexUnit under Flex 1.5.

There's nothing Matt is doing that
is required for Flex 1.5 - FlexUnit will work just fine
with
Flex1.5 as it is; and the
various strategies that have been presented for testing
asynchronous
calls work just fine. We
debated whether this belonged in the FlexUnit package or not,
and
decided against for the 1.0
release, as there are a number of strategies for testing
asynchronous
calls (as you've all shown) and no
single strategy seems to stand out as "the way it should
be
done".

I would imagine Matt is
