[Flexradio] External Antenna Tuner and AMP

2011-06-05 Thread Val Ballard
I want to connect a linear amp (AL-82) and a MFJ-998 automatic antenna tuner. I am running a flex 5K with the flex tuner installed. I want to be sure that I connect everything properly so that my equipment is not damaged. I am not sure how to deselect the internal ATU in order to use the

What I was hoping was that I could disable the internal ATU and then use the ATU button on the upper left of the screen to active the tuning operation with the number of watts indicated in the Transmit/Tune setup form. Maybe there is a better way.  There is so much to learn about this great

Just click on the TUN button to generate a tuning tone with the ATU in bypass mode. That should give you a carrier to tune the external tuner with. -Tim From: Val Ballard [mailto:kd7...@yahoo.com] Sent: Sunday, June 05, 2011 1:56 PM To: Tim Ellison; flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: Re:

That’s exactly how it works you just hit the TUNE button instead of the ATU button. 73's Bret WX7Y -Original Message- From: flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz [mailto:flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz] On Behalf Of Val Ballard Sent: Sunday, June 05, 2011 11:56 AM To: Tim Ellison;

[Flexradio] Chatter at Power Down

2011-06-05 Thread Richard Lawn
I didn't notice this until recently though maybe my Flex 5KA has been doing this for a while. Recently I hear what sounds like relays chattering when I power the rig down. It happens just briefly but happens every time. Anyone else have this issue or is there something here I should keep my eye

The one item still missing is the ability to disable the amp key line (tx relay output in the Flex) when the TUN button is clicked. It would be nice to make that a checkbox option in PSDR for those using external autotuners with their amplifiers. g Tim Ellison wrote: Just click on the TUN

For remote operation that's a lot less convenient to do than if a simple option like this were available in PSDR. Otherwise, you bet! g Brian Lloyd wrote: On Sun, Jun 5, 2011 at 3:59 PM, Gary Blau gb...@w3am.com mailto:gb...@w3am.com wrote: The one item still missing is the ability

Brian, Yep, that is the way I do it also. I can see a situation where you would want the TX out line both enabled disabled at the same time. 1. Switch amp to dummy load click Tune to tune up amp (I have a tube amp -- not rich enough for one of those new-fangled no-tune solid-state ones) --

Let me clarify that I wouldn't expect 99% of Flex owners to be interested in this option. But some of us oddballs with remote setups and solid state amps could benefit. Now if only the MFJ-998 had even some rudimentary remote control/reset capability... g Ray, K9DUR wrote: ...So, simplest

Hi Val-- also, I set up the 998 tuner to auto-tune when it needs to. Set the power for about 15 watts in By-pass/Tune. Works like a champ remotely. It will be nice to command a manual tune. Eventually I'll figure that out, using parallel port and extra lines not used by the bcd the controls
