Did EVERYBODY miss the post from Joel, W5ZN, League President, a couple of
days ago on this reflector? There's NO issue here. He said so. You couldn't
get The Word any more directly than that.
This is a simply remarkable accomplishment on Terry and Dave's part.

Actually we used my laptop (a very compact Dell Inspiron 700M) quite
successfully with the Extigy USB sound card on the V31 DXpedition/CQWW SSB
contest last October. That laptop did not have a parallel port (few do these
days) so we used the USB-parallel adapter. I picked the Extigy up on EBay

Ditto to all the rest of the guys' comments. 'Nuf said.
Now about this stuff about owning an SDR and getting girls, if Tim's right
there's a whole new advertising campaign I'm gonna suggest to Gerald.

Larry,
With all due respect, I disagree with your premise about Dual Watch not
being very critical for stateside operation. It is an ESSENTIAL tool in
trying to break pileups when working DX stations who are working split, no
matter what band or mode. You want to be able listen to the pile to
Hi Leon,
For QSOs with
V31MD send SASE via guidance on qrz.com. If you talked with any of the SDR team
members under their own calls you should send your card and SASE to that team
member (also qrz.com info for each; V31LL=WO0Z, V31SR=AA4SW, V31TG=AB5K, and

I found the Extigy to be a very adequate performer at least on SSB there
was no obvious difference in performance between our Extigy/laptop setup and
our D-44/Desktop station at V31.

Did anyone
happen to record any wav files of V31MD during the contest? We recorded several
locally, but unfortunately there are just big blank spaces where we were making
transmissions (since we did not operate with MON audio). It would be nice to
have something with V31MD actually
Greg,
Which version of N1MM are you using? Up until we downloaded and installed
the latest version of N1MM immediately prior to starting the CQWW SSB
contest last weekend the logging program was grabbing back focus very
quickly following excursions to the console. With the new version installed

Hi Duane,
I worked FDZ at least a couple of times myself from N5AW this weekend. Sorry
it wasn't the SDR we were hearing, but basically I did the same thing - took
my laptop and demo'd the SDR to my station partner (Marv, N5AW, a world
class contester and DXer) after we shut down this afternoon.
Phil,
I think this is moving in the right direction. It's
long been my opinion that we could eliminate a LOT of buttons and free up a
fair bit of real estate to allow for oft-used functions to come to the front
panel. Here is a list of my suggestions:

Heck, guys. I don't think we have to be afraid of going into a contest
without an absolute goal of winning or placing high. If I took that approach
- setting unrealistic goals for my modest shack - with most contests I'd be
perennially disappointed. (I feel differently when I'm a guest op at
Guys,
I'd definitely be interested, funds and time allowing.
IMHO, the keys to successfully using an SDR in a DXpedition are:
1.
Getting the virtual serial port stuff working
properly with SERIOUS logging software (a la N1MM, etc.)
2.
Sorting out the issues of running off a laptop
In 1.3.5 Eric
included keyboard shortcuts for, among other things, selecting filters and I
have implemented those in my ShuttlePro controller. Using FILTER WIDER or
NARROWER buttons I can click back and forth among the various filter selections
available. Thats good, but not good enough
With Dayton

When I started
out to program the first ShuttlePro controller to work with my SDR there were
only a few keystroke commands already visible in the console keyboard setup
tab, so all I was able to program in was VFO functionality and AF Gain up and
down. Eric has already started adding in
