Ken:
Let me add that this motherboard makes it absolutely trivial to
overclock. I have never seen it so easy.
I followed this page:

and overclocked my qx6700 to 2.93 Ghz (10% increase), effectively making
it two qx6800's in a single package.

The other point to watch is that manufacturers will sometimes change the
chip on a board but keep the same model# and UPC, so you can't tell what
you are getting without looking at the card -- although the picture or a
version# in some minuscule type on the package sometimes reveals the

Bob,
I'm also using an Intel board which uses the same Intel G965 Express
chip set. I have the micro ATX Intel DG965OTMKR. I h

I think the key is the agere controller chip so a via is not the best
choice (many of the embedded firewire ports are via chips).
Anyway, if you have a firewire card, try it first, then order is the
recommendation from Tim. I had some time on my hands so ordered it
just to "stay active" while wait

I have the Intel D975Xbx2, in it is the Core 2 Quad Extreme (QX6700).
I have only tested the controller under Linux but there it really works
nicely under freebob, consuming next to know ticks while running the
FA-66, all channels in full duplex mode. I have not tested the windows
drivers yet

You guys who have been doing the checkout of the 5000 - what firewire card
are you using? Hopefully every tester will respond so we will
There is a list of recommended firewire cards in the Flex KB. I think
they are now recommending cards using the Agere (sp?) controller chip
as opposed to the TI chip with the SDR1K. I followed their link to
microcenter and bought 2 of the cards for 12,99 each!

You guys who have been doing the checkout of the 5000 - what firewire
card are you using? Hopefully every tester will respond so we will
know what works. Some are motherboard built-ins, I am sure, but
others may be independent cards.
